A Message to the uploader of this video. (nigelparry) Jerry Dammers was in the Specials not The Clash. check out the official press release in the more info section. I think it's sad that people get paid for making these kind of mistakes and this is a big one.
Yes, the text associated with this video explains it was the promo footage sent out to the media. Shame Annie didn't sing. I haven't even got to see it on TV yet? Has anyone got a link to anything on YouTube?
"Tonight I am reaching out to every single South African, black and white, from the very depths of my being. A white man, full of prejudice and hate, came to our country and committed a deed so foul that our whole nation now teeters on the brink of disaster.
A white woman, of Afrikaner origin, risked her life so that we may know, and bring to justice, this assassin. The cold-blooded murder of Chris Hani has sent shock waves throughout the country and the world. ...Now is the time for all South Africans to stand together against those who, from any quarter, wish to destroy what Chris Hani gave his life for -- the freedom of all of us." Nelson Mandela Apr 1993
i agree. I am a white south african and i say to that i am lucky to have lived in a time with such a great man. i wish he would look after south africa more, even though he is not president people respect him more then any other person in south africa. if he just had to say or tell people to stop killing each other or stop the crime ALOT OF PEOPLE WILL LISTEN but he hasnt mentioned anything about crime. more people or just as much are dying everyday by crime then people with aids.
Well he used to called a terrorist, when he was fighting for his people. He switched sides.
Shouldn't he be celebrating his birth day with his people, other than the people that gave him hell, and were silent as he suffered for 27years???????????????????????????????????????
I posted this video. First off, all of you who are going tomorrow, have a great time! :-) I'm in the U.S. and can't swing it. :-(
Secondly, I've had to delete the ravings of at least 4 racists from this comments page. It's worth remembering that 1) Even people as magnanimous as Mandela was are hated by some people, and 2) Racism is alive and well. One article I read noted that "white power" sites in the US reported a surge after Obama became the Democratic nominee...
Thanks for deleting the nasty comments. I was really quite shocked to receive an increadibly abusive response to my comment from some random racist. Some people just like to be rude and offensive.
Nigel just wanted to thank you for posting this. Many racists don't understand what aparthied was and the many obstacles Mandela as with many others had to hurdle. I know for a fact they would not have survived 27 years in prison. I agree that racism is very much alive and well in the U.S, but also abroad. I saw the other day that Australian police were looking for two football fans for calling a player a monkey.
In my heart I believe Obama will make the necessary changes to strengthen our country. My only concern is some racist assassinating him before he finishes the task. ALL racist of every country need to be rounded up and flown to a remote island, then drop a nuclear warhead right in the middle of it. I know thats wrong but what can I say. The time may be at hand for smart sensible people to take to the street agaisnt racists. Hopefully ending it in this country for GOOD. I'm out thank you again...
I'm going to this and I'm so excited. It's my first time at a big concert like this.
One question - do anyone know how many songs the artist will sing? And which? Cause im downloading the songs that will be on, cause I wanna learn them before the show.
Say It's Not True by Queen+PR video @ end--very sad & overwhelming to see all those people suffering!Simple Minds wrote "Mandela Day" in 'Street Fighting Years' album. Also "Biko", another freedom fighter from Africa! It's a great album! Also, 'Real Life' album is great! Can't wait to see Queen & Simple Minds, although here in the states, I doubt there'll be coverage of concert! I'll have to wait for DVD for this special occasion honoring a great man, Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela!
Have you searched for that on YouTube already? There were a ton of media video releases I got from 46664 as a PR person. Most were long clips, not entire songs. Do you have a picture of Zucchero, preferably from that gig? They were really badly labeled and that would help. I made this one by chopping down one of their 14 minute videos, which was too long for You Tube, so that there would at least be something from the new batch advertising the coming concert for You Tube.
you are amzing brother and i love you to the highest and i wish you was running the world

My favourate Mandela speech;
I HAVE FOUGHT AGAINST WHITE DOMINATION!!
I HAVE FOUGHT AGAINST BLACK DOMINATION!!
I HAVE FOUGHT FOR A COUNTRY WHERE ALL PEOPLE HAVE EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND LIVE SIDE BY SIDE, HOLDING HANDS TO CREATE A BETTER TOMORROW!!!

Not many words to your favorite speech yet VERY VERY POWERFUL. This is my favorite, before he was president.
stickball211 3 years ago
I think I should regard myself as 'VERY LUCKY'as I had a chance to touch the Mandela with my bare hands back in 1993.
He's truly an amazing man!!!

I was there! It was increadible. Utterly, utterly amazing. To hear Mr Mandela speak, was something I've longed to do for as long as I can remember.
Plus, singing and clapping in unison with tens of thousands of people to 'We Will Rock You'? Biggest rush ever...
