(I've been a 3d modeler myself until '05-'06)

sure they're from a very simple model for 2011 standards, but they DO have that 'fun something' that players enjoy, at least players like me.

The kind of fun stuff you can't just create with all the complex shading and tech in the world if you don't have it in you.
