besides having a good plot and good acting thats it! it does NOT live up to the AWE of spielbergs movis from the 80s! the alien is a spider looking with the head of the cloverfield monster! its just wanna go home by buliding a spaceship with those cubes! boriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing! i must add this one a racist stinker cos the only 2 black actors in this movi were killed off! the way they were killed off is the REAL suprise and shocker to me!

Great review. I don't usually subscribe to channels but I felt like I had to give something back cos this entertained me. Excellent point about lowering expectations - I think it is fair to say that I (and everybody else who grew up on Amblin films) have unrealistic expectations of this movie which may screw up our reception of it. We should chill out and approach it like it is just another movie, then we'll be blown away - not if we think it is going to be the greatest movie ever.

@Aristotle501 Good point; anything with Amblin in front of it automatically evokes nostalgia for some. But I think much of the hype, for me at least, was generated from all the mystery surrounding the film, only to find that there isn't many big revelations in store. It was a fairly typically told story...i was kind of hoping for something a little more.
