The music seems very good. I absolutely love the Indoor/Outdoor effect, gives it a very admiring effect. The only thing which seems a tad bit out of place is the music that plays during that interesting blue screen stage, just doesn't flow too good with the rest of the sounds. Not terribly, but not exactly great. Overall I think you have this in the bag buddy.
Cool. I like the start, and the main gameplay music. I'm sure if there was a budget, music would be added to the near top of the list. It's only because the budget is zero, that the payment is a percentage of that (answer left as an exercise to the reader).
Ah, man! You really got the sound going there. First part of the score sounded quite a bit funny, if you get me. I don't think it fits the game as good. But from 2:24 and out, its goddamn epic! The good part that fits the game(in my opinion) is from 1:24 and out. If those parts i mentioned gets worked on, i think you're in the green zone with this one! Keep it up, dude.
(My opinions are mine only. Do not flame if you disagree. Only kids do that)
I think all tracks are great, except I strongly feel that the "chiptune saw signal" present in couple tracks doesn't fit to this game. Nice initiative!
@C418 - I thought it was great. Pretty much what I had in mind. I'll probably finish my own version before listening to yours a second time, so i don't end up plagiarizing accidentally. :D
the song is a bit too modern maybe, kinda lacks the fun of the game, but does a good thing with the detective feel and some parts just remind me of minecraft way too much=)
I don't know what kind of compositional elements you need in certain games, but I think that this sounded very well rounded, and very suitable for this game. I would quite enjoy playing the game with this soundtrack.
Great stuff, I feel like the volume should be down a bit though. Just because it's more of a stealthy type game, so the music should be quieter to fit.
I love the way this sounds, especially how the layers are built up as you move around the level. I am a bit concerned that you're worried about the pay though :/ I appreciate that you need money to eat, but isn't being paid just a little bit to make the music for one of the coolest indie games this year enough? Personally, if I had your (incredible) musical talent, I'd take this on as a hobby. End totally personal opinion. Anyway, I hope this at least inspires some awesomeness for the game.
@supershigi Very good question. If I were in that situation, I would maybe want a small cut of the profit, not a lump-sum payment up front... If the game goes big, you get paid sufficiently and it doesn't hurt the wallet of the developers. Again, this is a totally subjective thing, but I hope that answers your question.
I actually really like what you've done here. The changes in music to match the game seem to be the way to go. I hope this inspires something great for Gunpoint.
Impressive. Enjoy the music in Minecraft, and this feels right for this game. I haven't seen any other videos done with the music yet though, so I'm not sure that I would give my vote. I definitely would enjoy this music in the game though.
@MrJacko552: He is contemplating charging for it. I would love to grab this in Steam for $5-$10. And he's asking for help in making a Linux version, which is a good sign, not wanting to do Linux is the main prevention of a dev doing a Humble Bundle. :(
This was pretty bad from time to time, had stuff in it that seemed really out of place. I really hope this isn't the sound that makes it into the game.
@C418 I dunno about that guy, but it seems far more ambient/modern-electronic than the atmosphere of the game itself. I had imagined the soundtrack to be similar to that of a tongue-in-cheek detective film, but that's just me. Could be wrong, but if I ever get time I might give this a shot too.
@flibitijibibo Yes, my initial attempt was to have some sort of cliché detective music. The first song is like the last fragments of it. After that I thought however that I love contrasts, and decided to give it some.
@C418 It started of pretty good and continue to do so when you're outside, but around 0:40 the music went ambient as shit and I really didn't think it suited the game what so ever. As well as the blip-blop when you're in crosslink-mode, same here, it just seemed wrong and out of place. I do like how the music transitioned smoothly when guards started checking out noise. Overall I feel it lacks a bit to much noir-/ detectivy-feeling.
The dev is giving the game away for free, and everyone involved is making no money, and is just doing it in their spare time. i don't think anyone is being payed, at all.
C418 should have 100,000 subs for his work in Minecraft alone...
