  • Hey Basicmodelling, I always love the original 109G-6, but ive yet to try the new one, If I ever get it I shall do it in ''Yellow 3, Home Defence of Germany'' as an anniversary to the kit :)

  • @Ezza190 Sounds like a good plan to me... :)

  • airfix is gay

  • @iTzHDgaming2k11 'Definition of 'gay' = Being "carefree", "happy", or "bright and showy".. so yes.. Airfix is gay.. definetely.. :) Glad you like it... :)

  • Too bad Airfix didn't pack decals for WW2 Finnish AF version... Today I almost bought this kit, but I don't like after-war looks of finnish fighters... Swastikas look so much better than cockades! So I bought Smer IL-2 and Me 262 :)

I've watched almost all of your reviews, you are very good modeller - much better than me :)

  • @Zuomigundi Thanks.. :) I'm not brilliant, but I have fun.. and as long as you have fun with the hobby, that's all that REALLY matters at the end of the day.. :)

  • @BasicModelling Yeah, that is the truth :)

  • I know here in Germany Revell never will because there strict laws against Printing Swastikas. Maybe Tamaya could or somebody else.

  • @Colfax11000 There's loads of after market decals sheets with swastikas, there's no problem in finding any.. at least not outside Germany! I know many manufacturers cut the swastikas in half on the decal sheet, which technically makes them legal, as they don't look anything like a swastika.. and then it is up to you to join them together on the model.. There's lots of ways around it! :)

  • Im gonna get one of those.

  • When a boy we made all the Airfix(TM) . they cost 2/6 each and the larger models 5/- Later Revell(tm) models these were 1/32 scale and the first i built was in 1969. the Me 109e with opening cockpit. this model would have cost two pounds with a few paints(30p) each. It was from the instructions that I learned my first German language. Now these kids are serious cash. greddy profiteers.

  • @fuckthissignoncrap Yes, sadly the larger scale kits are very expensive these days.. Luckily I prefer the smaller scales anyway, which are still quite cheap.. :)

  • I just found my old models collection from years ago, I'm cleaning and fixing them right now, and will be posting them on youtube soon.

  • @deleonfrancis60 Should be good.. :)

  • Take a look at my Airfix Messerschmitt Bf 109 F

Let me know what you think of it

    Cheers

  • Are you a massive fan of the new box arts that airfix have introduced? I am not :( I can't believe they have spent all that time on a new kit and they go for a normal simple style cockpit. By the way, have you done a video on how to trim of carrier film because that would be a request from me :) Anyway looks like a nice kit :) :)

  • @2002And I like some of the new box art, but not all.. The box art for the new PR.XIX Spitfire and some of the other new Airfix box arts have been designed by a member of my club, he showed us all how it is done these days, it's all computerized. As for trimming carrier film, I'm not sure I know what you mean, quite?? :0)

  • @2002And you trim it with a sharp knife,, not sure what more can be added to that

  • Another great review as usual! Personally speaking I'm not too bothered about cockpit detail in 1/72 planes, especially WW2 stuff. It's a pity that there is stil no swastikas in these kits - surely its time that manufacturers put them in! The war has been over for a long time now.

  • @IhateLynnMoses Yes, but they are still banned in many countries.. Some model makers gets round the problem by doing the swastikas in halves, on the decal sheet..

  • @IhateLynnMoses it the law in certain countrys ,, if they could put them in they would.

  • I have a review of this kit on my channel.

  • @cowman850 I'll check it out later.. :) :)

  • Basic Modelling =Brillant Modelmaker

  • @GAM3BABIZZ Thank you.. brilliant I'm not, but I'm having fun.. :)

  • I found out that this music is called "Blue Paint" at the site mentioned at the end of the video under the heading "Thoughtful"

  • @IIJG27Rich Thank you.. :)

  • hey rob can you build a battle of britain spitfire and show how to do the whole paint scheme please

  • @lkj802 I have sent you a PM with a video attached.. :)

  • @BasicModelling thankyou im going to start painting now thanks again

  • @lkj802 I have the NEW Spitfire Mk.Ia kit as well now, and may start it soon, if I have the time.. :)

  • my dad got the 'Airfix 1/72 V-E day set' and i nevr touched it, however i built the planes out of it, so so far i hav:(all in 1/72 scale) Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX, De Haviland Mosquito Mk.XVIII, Hawker Hurricane Mk.IID, Avro Lancaster Mk.III and I hav almost finished a Hawker Tempest (seperate kit) and i am hoping to get a messerschmit 109, 110, 262 or any other type of german plane or an american plane

  • @drk4tlf sorry i meant to say 'he nevr touched it'

  • @drk4tlf Sounds like a good set.. I know the Airfix Lanc is a bit tricky to build but it sure looks like a Lanc when done.. :)

  • should i paint wheels in or down.

  • @zxheroe4 That is up to you!! :) I prefer wheels down, myself... :)

  • i bought the 1965 one yesterday at my local hobby store

  • @cokt780 A classic kit... :)

  • (cont'd) ..irritate me as much as seeing Bf-109's modelled with canopy open. It's just unrealistic scenario without the cockpit occupied. If any pilot or mech were to leave an aircraft unattended with canopy up like that, not only would they be viewed with scorn by their peers as unprofessional, they'd be penalised such that they'd only do it once ..if at all. Appreciate it's modelling artistic licence in homage of detail. But to anyone with a clue it renders suspension of disbelief=0. Ende.

  • Well, I still maintain that it is up to the individual modeller how they display their model. The canopy needs to be open or the pilot can't get in.. :) I review the model as I see it, & if I like it, it gets a good review, & if not it won't! I read 2 articles about the NEW Airfix MiG-15 in 2 different magazines & one of them loved the kit and couldn't praise it enough, the other one hated it and saw only faults.. Modelling is a very individual thing indeed.. :)

  • The minor criticism was valid. Good on you for doing your reviews, and I find some of them quite entertaing, helpful even. :) But if you're going to review, which is what the headline touts, then do a 'warts 'n all' review. It's fine to have a subjective bias. After all we all do. But clearly illustrating it as such whilst at the same time addressing any and all of the issues renders both review and reviewer AAA cred. Admittedly, the rivet counter's penchant for gear down display does.......

  • Just to illustrate individualism, somebody in my club did a P-47 that was VERY glossy & he got some comments on that. But I saw it as a plane that was out in the rain & thus looked wet & and told him so, which pleased him no end!! Sometimes you need a bit of imagination to see the potential in a model.. However, we're all entitled to our own opinions, & I appreciate your views which I partly share & partly don't! In the end, as long as YOU're happy with YOUR model, that is all that counts..

  • I thought the whinge about absent cockpit detail in a 1/72 scale fighter (microsope required) yet not a mention that there is no display stand included these days was a bit naff. When I was a kid (in the 60's) I must've built every Airfix kit in existence, 'geekily' gear down. Childhood long gone & a pro pilot for 40 years, I now prefer gear up & display stand. Why? Aircraft fly. That's their raison détre. That's how they are best displayed. Or at least with that option! Pilot aboard. Airborne.

  • @soaringstar Not sure if you're having 'a go' at me or somebody else, as I can't remember what I wrote about the kit.. I was just surprised that Airfix has stood by their old design even now, when most manufacturers offer superdetailed cockpits even in 1/72.. As I see it, a detailed cockpit doesn't stop yopu from sticking a pilot in it, I have practised that on anumber of occasions, as I also prefer models with pilots in them.. (cont.)

  • Manufacturers like Academy & KP still give you stands with some of their kits, & I like the idea, as it again gives you the option to use it, or not! I do however prefer to have my models 'wheels out' & on the ground.. but that is my preference! That is the greatness of our hobby, we all share the fun of building models, but how we chose to do them is very individual.. some like to build theirs 'clean', others weather and wash.. gear up / gear down.. It's all up to the individual modeller.. :)

  • Built one of these a while back, it's not too bad in my opinion. On the subject of gladiators, I'm building one in a greek paint scheme. I'll post a vid of my collection in the near future!

  • @HaveACigar186 The only objection I have is the bulges in front of the cockpit, which should be separate.. but painted up I don't think it will show too much!! :) And I love the decal options... :) :)

  • have you ever seen the old Bf109 G6?

  • @Ezza190 Yes.. in some aspects it's a better kit.. it's ideal for conversion work, I believe!!

  • @BasicModelling i have to admit its a far cry from the old mould, and i prefer this one to the old job :)

  • @Ezza190 True, but this one has a major design fault.. :P

  • @Ezza190 Thanx for this information. I never before had heared of this new Bf 109 G-6 from Airfix. The old one is one of the few extremely wrong platic kits in scale 1/72 which not even I will build .... similar like the Gloster Gladiator from Airfix or the Hawker Typhoon from Frog.

  • @Basilisk195 The Airfix Gloster Gladiator is not all that bad.. apart from the cowl, which can be replaced.. I will build one soon, but it will take a lot of work to make it look ok, so it will be a long build!! :) But all the more fun.. I hope!! :)

  • @Ezza190 Yeah, itd be nice if they put the old decals with it as well as the new ones :)

  • @Ezza190 Indeed! My Airfix Glad will be a Norwegian version, by the way.. :)

  • @BasicModelling nice, the Gladiator in Norwegian markings will be interesting

  • got the Airfix Dogfight Doubles Bf 109 G6 with Beaufighter TF.X...the G 6 looks poor on detail like your G 6,don like the one piece canopy ,wings, fuselage and the tail.Dont like it at all..maybe i sell it to somebody..

  • @strarscreamtheking I always check the box centent before I buy anything now.. if I can, anyway! Some Airfix stuff are very good still, other kits are very very poor.. but it is like that with most model makes.. very few are producing constant high quality kits.. Needless to say I haven't completed my G-6.. probably never will! It's too bad even for me, and my standards.. :)

  • i wish airfix would make more civil airliners like they used to years ago such as the DH comet or the BOAC VC10.

i have a Trident, BAC-111 and a BA 707 when they re-released them not long back but there needs to be more

    good model

  • Airfix will probably issue more stuff as they get along.. just be patient!! I'm still waiting for some of the old kits they promised they would re-release last year.. :)

  • @BasicModelling Revel has made again me 109 Emil.not made since 1978.out now.

    terry

  • Is it the same kit, though?? ;0)

  • @BasicModelling I think so.not sure but as revell made them. you bet they got old molds out and thought for once. good choice

    tj

  • The early Airfix Bf a09's are very good for old fashioned convertion works.. with a bit of patience and a lot of plasticard and time you can get some very interesting versions made.. :)

  • Tamiya make the best model's.

  • They make some good models, yes.. :) But you also pay a stupid sum of money for them.. :)

  • Tamiya are the best though and cheaper than Hasegawa.

  • Yes, but still VERY expensive.. Hasegawa has a mixed bunch of models, one of the worst Thunderbolts I have ever built was the Hasegawa P-47 D in 1/72 scale.. I have a 1/72 Tamiya Fw 190 to do, and personally I think the Revell kits are more detailed.. and give you far more for much less money! But that is my opinion.. :) But I am looking forward to building the Tamiya kit, I will do it as a captured Fw in RAF colours.. :)

  • I only like 1/48 so i know that Revell doesn't even come close to Tamiya, but each to his own i guess.

  • That's the beauty of modelling, we all do what we like, and enjoy that bit, still sharing the hobby!! I'm just fortunate in enjoying building a great variety of models like tanks, ships, cars and aeroplanes, and in a variety of scales.. I will most likely build a Hasegawa 1/48 scale P-39 Airacobra next, once I have finished my current little 1/72 US Gunship helicopter.. :)

  • i think the box art on the new airfix kits is beautiful!!

  • I guess so.. but me being an oldfashioned modeller like the boxes of old.. :) But at least with the new boxes you get what you see.. :)

  • btw Thank You sir for the review

  • No problem.. That's why I post these reviews, so that modellers such as yourself can get an idea of the kit, and decide wether they want to buy it.. or not! :)

  • Beautiful boxart, ok kit, room for PE parts..i like!

  • Yes, it's not too bad a kit, I guess... for some reason I started it ages ago, but it has been put aside for a while.. Guess I'll complete it when I'm in the mood for something 'German' again..

  • That Finnish scheme looks mean! I like it!

  • Yes, that's the one I'm planning to do, when the model is completed.. I started the kit ages ago, about time it gets built and finished, I guess.. :)

  • at least the box art as changed dont know if the mouldings the same been years sine i built one 1975.

    tj

  • The new Airfix G-6 is a brand new tooling, but the old one is still about as well.. :)

  • Is this the new Airfix BF 109?

  • Yes, brand new... not very good.. but brand new... :)

  • I see, this model got many decals :D!

And the boxart likes a American fighter!

  • Yes, you can build a German, Italian or a Finnish G-6.. It's the Finnish plane that's shown on the Box Art, and that's the version I will build.. :)

  • very nice! 5/5

  • Thank you... :)

  • big screen YAY

    good isnt it

    love and respect

    scotty and libby;0)

  • I look forward to seeing that WW2 Finnish fighter !!!

  • Ha ha .. thought you would!! Seems like I will be missing the local air show in Clacton this year again.. Today I haven't got the time to go, and tomorrow I haven't got the opportunity.. :( If the railways had not been striking I could have gone for the end of the show at least, but now I won't bother.. it takes too long by bus!! :(

  • you could go to an airshow in Finland!

  • A small, but interesting feature is that the wing leading edge seems to be moulded together with the upper wing - the lower lacks the edge and slots. And somewhere I saw that Airfix will issue a Mosquito in 1/24 - not for the beginner, and not for €6, I guess. Now I will play a bit on my old "Airfix Dogfighter" game, maybe I'll do a vid on that;-))

  • Well, I'm no Messerwisser.. :) But thanks for pointing that out.. takes atrained eye to spot these things, I guess.. but it can probably be rectified with some panel line making.. (Can't think of the correct word) The Airfix 1/24 Mossie should have been released ages ago, but the keep delaying it.. we all reckon' it's only a myth, it will never happen.. :)

  • I'm sorting out some models before my wife and son comes home from London tomorrow, while I can put them around the house without complaints.. Tomorrow I will have a BUSY day tidying up everywhere.. :)

  • Actually, the slots go round the wing, and they ARE there.. I have just checked!! :)

  • Thank you very much. Beautiful music also, it fit perfectly. What is it?

  • Thank you! I can't remember the title of the music, but I got it form IncompetechDOTcom, which has a lot of licensefree music that you can use for free, as long as you give him credit in the video.. :)

  • is 2 day the comp 2

  • The competition draw will be tomorrow.. I probably won't do another one for a while, it's only suppose to be a bit of fun..

  • xoexo

  • help help goes that little guy trapped on the spruce...

  • His name is Bruce.. Bruce the Spruce.. :)

  • he he

  • Spruce Bringsteen to be precise.

  • I thought I recognized him VBG

  • tbh airfix are catering there models to the younger generation (im only 24).... airfix should have more detailed models for older, more experienced builders... maybe call it the "airfix advanced range" or something like that, and airfix, if your reading this, please use it, but slip us a tenner, or a pack of smarties (just the blue ones cheers)

  • Ha ha ha.. Yes, but the cost of developing new tooling is quite high!! These kits are made in China, by the way.. Good ol' BRITISH Airfix.. :)

  • What do you want for £6;) It looks as if you need to buy 3 and build one of each kind to me

  • Aaaargghh,.. No, no... and no, Sir.. and yes, I do expect A LOT more for £6, it's only a 1/72 kit after all.. :) A Finnish one it will be.. :)

  • I guessed it would be finnished in finnish

  • Are you trying to finnsh me off?? :)

  • You collection of Messershmitt's Bf-109 fullfiled!

  • Yes, I'm just lacking any (A), B, C or D versions.. or any of the F-versions.. :) :)

  • Heller did an b/c/d one.

  • Didn't know that.. will keep an eye out for a kit when I next go to a show.. have one lined up next month, but that's unlikely that I can attend.. and then there's the 'local' one in Ipswich in October.. but I'm planning that far ahead, I don't even know what will happen tomorrow, let alone in October.. :P

  • I'm NOT planning that far ahead.. :(

  • To me, specially the weapon sellection, it looks very round and plump. Almost fluffy. Like sharp lines are missing. Or is that just your soft focus video editing?

Curious to see how this one turns out.

  • I took the photos in bad light and in a rush before going to work last night.. I may get round to get it built fairly soon, I'm quite in a Messerschmitt kind of mood.. :) Good to see you on my videos again, by the way.. you have been missed! :)

  • Nice options in colour (I can't stand Black and white).

I had imagined it would be quite a basic kit, but as long as the proportions are correct I don't complain.

You do know that for 6 pounds you could get a 'real' kit made by Hasegawa/Academy ;)

Thanks for the review. If I were you I would do the Finnish finish!

  • Yes, the colour option is really good, except that they have printed the Finnish one as light blue underneath, when really it should be grey.. and yes, I do know that you can get an Academy for £^ or thereabouts, except that I paid £4 fdor mine.. the only thing wrong with the Academy kit, if you want to build a Finnish WWII type, is the canopy.. Airfix gives you bothy canopies, whereas A-y only gives you one option.. and a cockpit is not that hard to scratchbuild, if you want one.. .. :)

  • I will definetely do the Finnish finish, that's the main reason why I bought the kit.. I still have decals (after market) for a Finnish WWII G-6, the one in the kit is post-war, as you obviously know anyway, and thus come with the cocards rather than the swastikas.. Shame the Germans ruined it for the Finnish Air Force, their blue / white swastika had nothing to do with Nazi Germany after all, but it was still changed after the war, as it had such a bad 'image'..

  • How does the surface deatil and proportions compare?

  • I'll come back to you on that one.. Have some paperwork to see to, my wife needs some info as we're looking into grants and stuff to adapt my sons room and the bathroom.. it's all that to deal with as well.. :P But I will look in to it as soon as.. I have the Academy kit right here.. :)

  • Oh dear :(

  • I know.. that's what I thought when I saw the Academy kit too... (only joking.. I know what you mean), but yes, it has to be sorted.. the preliminary date for the op is now set to the 5th of October..

  • good review rob

maybe airfix will change their way and start making the cockpit more detailed

    love and respect

    scotty and libby:0)

  • It's taking them a fair time to develop this kit.. and they must be fully aware of how modern kits are designed these days.. perhaps they opted for a 'traditional' Airfix look, rather than progressing into modern times.. it's also a matter of product developing costs, I guess.. Other planes released at the same time, like the Spitfire XIX, have more of a proper cock-pit though..

  • thankyou.

  • Thank you.. :)
