when you were designating the name of the zip file and the file that you wanted to zip, I saw that you had the prefix "./" . I was curious if that was necessary so I tried it without that prefix and it still worked.
So my question is, is using "./" just a good habit to get into because it will be useful later, or does it actually make a difference in this situation? Thanks.
@originalfunkman Generally you won't even need to type "./" at all. I just got into the habit of it because generally I feel more comfortable typing a more specific path, although ultimately it does not matter for 99% of commands. So, you don't need to type "./", and you probably shouldn't, as it is just redundant.
Okay i just watched the first 20 seconds on your 5 first lessons and the only thing I can say that this was the most unnecessary lesson I ever seen... You teach us how to move a file, how to create a text document and how to zip some files...
But why do anyone need to know how to do that with the Terminal :P
@kloi19123pwn This is mainly for use over FTP connections, SSH sessions, and for writing shell scripts. If you are someone who just wants to use the Mac OS X GUI and never has to use a terminal environment, obviously there is no reason why you have to know any of this. It just so happens that you have to understand the basics in order to be able to do more useful things from terminal later on.
Thanks!! i didnt know the zip file had to be the name of the folder thats why it didnt work! thanks man. ive been working on a deadly deployable for macs so i can delete there files and make the operating system slow, it sucks cause it would only work with there username, and i dont know how to select all files on a specific place ex. you cans say rm -r usrs/"usersname"/desktop. and then repeat without the -r. that wouldent work would it?
PS. The zip file's name doesn't have to be the same as the file, I don't know why that would make a difference, but I can see where you'd think it would.
uh, idk i was in my desktop in terminal and i did zip -r "zippy.zip" "nameoffolder" and i nvr worked. but then i tryed zip -r folder.zip folder/ and it worked. was i not supposed to have the quotes? or was i supposed to have the / at the end. it must have been one of tho's
@skaterock7734 you are trying to mess up peoples systems and you dont even know how to use terminal?
or read examples of commands that "have quotes" and you dont know to remove the quotes?
you are a dumbass sir, and if you ever learn anything you will realize it is stupid to just try and mess up peoples comps for no good reason, plus it is a waste of your own time

@thegabytzu97 In this video I was using iShowU. At this point I would suggest that you use ScreenFlow or QuickTime.
