I got this for 9800GTX+ (OC to Core 770/1910Mhz and Mem 1200Mhz) and its an 8C improvement over stock with IC Diamond TIM even with a crappy Acer OEM case like mine.
ati 4870 I was getting temps of 80C idle, 100+ under load fan auto . Now at 50C idle, 75C load and no fan, I was getting temps of 36C idle, 50+ 1fan NOX Acid Blaster 120mm 13 dB.
i thought the accelero would have to be installed where the old graphic cards fan was. if i want to put it on the top so theres less chance of it falling off do i need to put the heat sinks on the top of the card or something?
My 2 year-old stock-cooled 4850 card was idling at 96 degrees -- at least 30 degrees higher than 2 years ago when it was first installed inside my p-c -- but once it had been cleaned of dust and put back in the motherboard, and my p-c booted up, the idling temperature was 59 degrees, and it's been that figure now for a week. Whenever the card's taxed, it doesn't go above 70 degrees C.
My 4850 is running at around 100C full load, I think largely because the fan in the stock heatsink is barely functioning. If I don't order one of these soon I fear for it's life lol. I haven't even been plying games lately because I do not feel comfortable with my card being that hot. I'd be happy with 60C full load with an Accelero tbh. I have great airflow in my case though, so who knows.
Thank you for this video. It took me through the steps to installing my own S1. I was getting temps of 65C idle, 90+ under load. Now at 34C idle, 45C load. Awesome cooler. It does help to have good case airflow tho.
I love this cooler, it is simply amazing, it dropped my idle/load temps from stock speeds 51/95 to 24/38 OC'd at 700/1095. This cooler is simply amazing, although I hav a single 120mm fan (Adding 2 120s at least for me only benefited me by dropping idle and load temps by 1C.
will this work on a gts250 i idle at 39c and after playing crysis on high no matter how long i get to 59c will this help i already know my temps are really good but want better
Thanks a ton for this video. It helped me immensely and gave me more confidence to install the Accelero S1 on my HD4850. My earlier idle temps had gone upto 76 degrees and would load at 110 degrees. After applying this cooler, the idle is now at 43 degrees and loads at 50 degrees.
I'm gonna be purchasing one of these but have a few questions. Did it come with thermal paste? or did you buy some and if so which type? i currently have tubes of AS5 but i heard that wasn't the best for GPU cooling. Thanks for any info.
no, i dont agree,,,,, i have an asus 4850/1gb that went from 55/85C to 42/70C. Which may seems not that great of an improvement, true, but the stock cooler was a turbine while the accelero is dead silent even with the turbo module on.
i dont know y ppl get such high temps wif the stock cooloer ive got a power colour 4850 and im getn 30 to 40 idle and on load highest ive seen is 50 degrees
why u dont build in back the red plate ? who was inside... i have read here so often that it without and just the ram sinks !!!!!!! the card destroyed....
for all who build in the s2 use the orginal red plate its better than the sinks ! and use an cooler
This cooler is just superb! I have it on my 4850 with a 120mm 1200rpm fan..Almost totaly silent and with work tempratures arround 40-42......What can i say other then its kickass!
Go for the turbo.... the extra module is 8$ max, is dead silent and those damn 48xx heat up like there is no tomorrow. Even with the turbo you could just find yourself around 70c in full if your case is not well areated
Gloves are a great way to keep your self grounded and causing static electricity, but the main purpose for wearing them would be so that you could handle the exposed board without getting oils onto it. Always remember, when it comes to a computer or any electronic device, the cleaner the better.
overclocked your card too much that is. It's probably the memory but I'm not sure; try gradually downclocking your GPU and if that doesn't work set it back and start downclocking your memory.
Thanks mate. Actually, I just covered the first row, so 4 of them aren't covered by heat sinks. I've also attached a 12cm fan on top of the main sink, so.. It works ;) 38c idle, 50c~ full load. Down from 88c idle, 116c with the old system. If it breaks, it breaks.
I've the EXACT same card as in the video - but at 2:37, I seem to haev been issued slightly different sinks. I've got 4 of those oblong ones that stick out on the long side, beyond where the adhesive side is. Makes me uncertain about it, cus I can't cover all 8 of those tiny black chips entirely. Any thoughts?
Hmmm maybe the same card but it depends on when you bought it too i could be wrong. Correct me on that one. Manufacturing process change over time (revisions) usually to increase efficiency and to lower cost. You may want to try zalman heat sinks their size profile is much smaller Just google zalman ramsinks (they are blue/purple colour). Hopefully this hopes you. Let me know if u need more info. Sorry to late replies everyone. (if anyone reads this)
@EMPPT Hell yeah, 4850 is really outdated today. I went for the GTX 570, got it a month or two ago, it's pretty nice. Good luck with your new video card ;)
You could use linen however you may not be able to get all the thermal residual paste out of the chip that why alcohol will work. Plus it nearly dries instantly so you don't have to deal with moisture
LOL when you look at idle the fanspeed is 0% then when you lokk at load the fan speed is at 41% and when you have abetter case with more fans the graka doesnt go hot!!! 1 fan in the front 1 in the back and 1 on the top mabye and the left side of the case and your pc is coooooL! xD
Yea my fan speed is 0% cuz the fan is not plugged into my video card. I plugged it in directly to my PSU. To be honest i don't have side fans in my case. I only have front and back. I did buy a new case (much larger) so i get more air flow.
Well i had a similar problem. After i installed my accelero, i got nothing on my monitor. It turned out that the accelero was so heavy that it was pushing down the video card, making it less than 90 degrees angle with respect to the mobo, therefore, not making a good connection between card and pcie slot. I got the video card back exactly perpendicular to my mobo and it worked again.
Same here. I barely hear mine with the turbo module. A great mod for any 48xx ati card. Thanks for posting your temps!!. It give others an idea how much it can cool your card
That's great. There should be no problem installing it as long as yours is a reference card. Most other card should be okay. Please check the manufacture website for more info.
1.) isopropyl rubbing (also known as rubbing alcohol) Its purpose is to clean the ram chips and gpu of thermal paste. And it also evaporate extremely quick (dry faster).
2.) Yes the eraser help to remove any wax coating that mine be present. It helps the ram sink to stick on the ram chips.
Have you noticed that the stock cooler is NOT copper at all? I found this out by scratching the heatsink with a door key. I'm amazed how ATI had to lie...
Nope it's not copper at all. there is a copper paint coating on it. I wouldn't say it's ATI who is lying about it. ATI don't usually make their cards. Third party companies do such as Sapphire, Diamond, Palit. etc..
first not every card is made the same. Second it also depends on the ambient air and the air circulation inside your case. Plus ur parts inside your computer some generate more heat then others.. like a q6600 (65nm) runs hotter then my q9450(45nm). DDR2 tends to be hotter then DDR3. even the PSU too.. so really it could be a whole range of factors. But i wouldn't worry u have great temps now. Good job.
i mean the bottom mosfet row. the row above it is covered by the hsf but the lower row isnt, or at least it doesnt appear to be, as i can see their black plastic tops. they do tend to get scorching hot. i put copper revoltec hsfs on both rows.
oh the video was only meant for whatever that came with the package. As mentioned in my previous post. And to confirm mine is still working perfectly fine. no issues. The turbo module does help with the heat as it pushes air through the fins. I also did mention for people to buy zalman ramsinks in my previous post if they are uncomfortable leaving them naked. But thanks for the suggestions it good for other people who may want to install additional stuff on the video cards
you screw in opposite ends like an X ... so screw top left then bottom right. then top right then bottom left. You will screw bit by bit. just hand tight is fine.
i just got the accelero twin turbo and i gotta say i LOVE it. but one thing that makes me worried is the VRM/ VRAM temps. You accelero has no problems?
right now, since i made the video i have no issues what so ever, i ended up doing a crossfire setup too. So i can safely say it's fine. Remember the twin turbo will help cool the VRAM as it pushes air through
Hmmmm the accelero varies it prices range from 20-$35. it varies from country to country, state to state. In europe, it tends to be a bit more expensive. Just make sure your card you are using it compatible with the accelero as there are 2 versions. And installation is not hard at all, just prepare the tools you need, have a clean surface, and make sure you are ground or wearing a static strap. It will lessen your risk of damaging your card. Hope this helps, and good luck.
because for some reason my card has been getting really hot lately. it must have been from the CCC update
Im using the ati 4850, and before it would usually only get to the high 80's maybe low 90's on load. But for some reason its been going to the 100's. Even when i crank up the fan.I mean it doesnt crash or anything, but those are some high temps. compared to before.
Thanks for the info, ill look out for the different versions
That's great to hear. =D glad someone posted some of their results. The AS5 is definitly better then the compound they put on the accelero (i think it's lower grade compound, forgot what was called) Yep, i have mentioned the blue zalman ramsinks here they are much better then the accelero ones, plus they are shorter and stick better. thanks again for giving your results, much appreciated
It roughly about 20 degrees (celius) warmer depending on air circulation in your case. So if your stock temp is 90 degrees and let's say your accelero with fan is about 45-50. It will be roughly 65 degree without it(this is a rough estimate). I should let you know the turbo fans are near silent if noise/price is an issue. U could also strap in a 120mm fan to it as well, maybe more economical.
I bought some extra ramsinks for the MOSFETs, the blue zalman ones. I saw in the final pics that you did sink your MOSFETs, but you don't mention it in your video, which I think is very important and should be a regular part of adding the s1 to the 4850. It's a shame that the heatsink included in the s1 package doesn't fit the 4850.
Do you think it's better to actually remove all the thermal adhesives on the ramsinks and use a compound (as5) instead? Is that better for heat transmission?
the tranmission of heat will be better for sure, but how would they stick? the compound is just a compound paste and it's not an adhesive. You should take a look at Arctic Silver ASTA-7G which is a thermal adhesive. You might want to search it on newegg and they do carry the adhesive and removal compound. It about $20 all together. If you want to go for that route you should get both just in case they get discontinued. Hopefully this helps
Ya know - those ramsinks are the cheapest around, there should be a rev. 3 - where the adhesive is made by 3M instead of some second hand brand!! You should have showed THAT in the video. Anyway, if you weren't effected by that you're lucky!
Agreed, the ramsinks r not the greatest ones. However mine is sticking because the process i gone through to remove the waxy coating to give the rams chips a matte finish to stick on.Also, using other ramsinks defeat the whole purpose of using the set that was given by Arctic Cooling. If i use zalman ramsink (mentioned somewhere in these comments) it will forced normal user to buy additional items; which is not intent.I show this video to let everyone know they can do their mod with this set. Thanks
i agree with you. There should be a rev3 for it and use like the 3M. It is far superior, but what can we do either then complain to them or buy our own. But they do stick. Even now they are fine, so far they are holding on. And i have remove the card several times because i bought a new case.
The fan is adjustable with the new catalyst drivers so you can control the noise from it. Also any non-referenced ati cards tend to have a quieter fans (usually they are dual slot design). If you are ready to install an accelero it will near silent. I hope this helps you out.
Make sure you get rev 2. The other version i don't think has 4. I could be wrong. Also Rev.2 is the only one that is compatible to 4850 4870 reference card
Thanks for the comment!. Glad it helps. Nope you don't need any thermal grease. The ram chips have an adhesive (tape) that just sticks on the ram chips. Cleaning it is fairly easy, you just have to a grounded(skin touching metal or anti-static strap)so all static from your body gets dissipated. Also place it on a solid surface that does not collect statc such as work table, tile, or glass. Avoid Carpet, fabrics, or some rubbers that may contain some static.
i've got a ECS 9800gt and it came with the accelero S1, but those cooler clips are the sadest thing i've ever seen. they don't clip correctly onto the heatspreader, and i had to bend them so the clip could lock in there, but still i'm far from being happy with that.
Hmmmm how is your temp on it? i can take a picture of mine. but i dunno if it will help you much as they are different cards. If you want a picture i can send one over to you.
Yup you can use rubbing alcohol. Just make sure it's completely dry before installing ramsinks. and also just make sure you don't use facial tissue which could leave some fine partical
I have a comment somewhere in here also had high temps but after installing it they too have a large drop in temp. I would recommending trying this mod out if the temp is bothering u
Odd, the only thing i can think of is the thermal tape they use or the chip inside or even though it's the same chip, not all chips are made equal. It's the same as CPUs, AMD x3 processor really actually has 4 but 1 is defective.
Don't use AS5 unless you're really careful with it; that stuff is conductive and if it gets on anything other than the GPU/ram it could fry your card. Go for Ceramique or MX-2. Good stuff without the conductivity.
it really depends on your air circulation inside your case. You might want to try taking the side panel off and see if the temperature improve. Also do you live in a warmer climate? warmer ambient temperature = warmer temp inside the case
Temps depends on many factors & every person have different results.
Here are some factors
1. Air circulation
2. CPU Overclock
3. Size of Case
4. Spacing between cards
5. Ambient temp (both in & outside the case)
Temperatures are accurately measured if both are placed in a controlled environment. Therefore, all results may vary. My video sole purpose is helping ppl install their accelero and the expected temps that they may achieve when doing so. Not for comparing to other ppl results
Im not really comparing (every one knows these factors). I just dont like the ram heat sinks that comes with the kit. Im not downing your video, only wanting to show that theres a better solution then what comes with the kit. Good video though.
Thanks 4 the comment! As quoted "getting better temps then that with my Accels" which is comparsion.Ppl knowing these factors is just an assumption,i believe many r new to this or maybe don't understand y results vary. This is Y these videos r made so ppl r aware of them & Y ppl ask questions.I truely believe in supporting ppl if they have questions & i try to answer them like my other video.I do agree that the ramsinks r not the best but this video is meant to install the accelero w/stock package
As for the ramsinks, i do agree with you. They aren't the best but they do work if installed properly. I have mentioned zalman vga ramsink work pretty well and they are slimmer in thickness. And of course there are other alternative, water cooling or another vga heatsink block which could provide similar or better cooling. Once again thanks for your input! For everyone else,if u have time to watch Num1shark video please do.
Thanks for the video. Wish I could watch it while putting everything together haha. You seem to reply quickly, so I'll ask you a question. My card is being ridiculous and idling at 87 degrees, and quickly hitting 104 while under load. Do you think there may be a problem with the card itself, or do you think a new cooler will fix it?
Thanks for the comment.I gotta support what i do right, which i think many places lack. But to answer your question. The temperature is a little high but not unheard of. I for one have issue with air flow in my case so i added a higher CFM exhaust fan. Look for a Fluid Bearing fan from arctic cooling or Scythe they have great outputs and low noise (< dbs) Also try to clean up inside your case especially cabling, which could easily block airflow.
and ppl don't really think about it but overclocking your CPU can really increase the temp inside your case. So its a more reason to get the warm air out. And in terms of if this accelero will work for you. I would say yes it would. Remember it depends on every person, but you would get lower temp at least less than 100 degrees on load. that to me is worth it. If you decide to get it i would recommend measuring the width of the case just to make sure it fits.
Yeah, I was thinking that the airflow was probably bunk. I've got a fairly small case with tons of hardware packed into there and wires everywhere since I dont have anywhere to get them out of the way. I ordered a better case along with the cooler, so hopefully that will get me back to a normal temperature. Thanks for the quick response.
anytime, good luck. Let me know how it goes. Did you tie up your cables? If you have IDE cables (those ribbon types) try to get those rounded IDE cables those really help.
Hahah oh lawdy lawd thats a big difference. Just finished installing putting everything together. My new case is massive, and has holes in the motherboard tray to route the cables through, clearing the way for air. I got the cooler installed, with only a little trouble (your video helped a lot) and wow, the temperature drop is crazy. Idling now, its 39 degrees Celsius, instead of 87. I havent tested it under load yet, but im sure it wont get out of hand like before. Thanks for your help.
hey you gotta be, i think people take things too seriously. Good luck in installing it if you get everything prepared it should be pretty smooth sailing. And when you are mounting it make quarter turns on each screw in cross fashion so u evenly apply pressure to the GPU. Make sure your grounded and you should be set to go. Let me know how it goes
you don't need to do all this as i have two powercolor 4850 pcs extreme editions and they have a ok sized fan and both of them in corssfire run at around 42 degrees idle and 48-49 degrees load
yup that's correct you don't need it. but remember this video was posted on August 14, 2008 about one and half months ago. And the release date of the RV700 was on June 25, 2008. At the time most if not all radeon 4850 &4870 are still using reference cards coolers. 3rd party coolers have not really been implemented at the time. This video is useful for people we bought reference cards or who adopted the cards early like i have. I bought another 4850 palit and i didn't have install one
The song is from a Nintendo DS game called Luminous Arc. The Singer is "Kaori Oda". Song title is "Brilliant World". I truely enjoyed playing the whole game so i added the song as a way of saying thank you lol...(yes i know that sounds so lame but it was good game)
the rams sinks are ok. I have heard some people having problems when they are sticking them on. If you clean the chip very well and stick the ram sinks on the chip for at least 30 sec you should be ok. Some people though think there are not enough ram sinks so they buy the zalman ones found here sharkacomputers(dot)com/zavgaramhezm(dot)html. i personally bought them because i bought another 4850 for crossfire setup and the zalman gives a cleaner (cooler) look! =D
add this vid as my fav..just few questions, did you use that glue thing(dont know what its called usually use on cpu) when installing the ram sink?ram sink included in package?that glue thing included also?
Is it okay with CrossFire configuration ? This cooler isn't too much biger ?

shame i didn't find it before I installed mine, but oh wells.
I have a HD4830, which also works with the Accelero S1 Rev. 2. The fan was so loud, I just had to do something about it.
My idle temp is now 36c and when working about 50-55c.
I don't have the twin fans though.
Do the fans make a nice edition to it?
I think without the fans anyway, the Accelero S1 Rev. 2 really is a great piece of kit!
takes a little while to install, but well worth it!

You've overclocked too much. It's to do with more than just heat; downclock your speeds gradually and this should stop.
MGlBlaze 3 years ago
Without the fans, how many slots does this take up - and do you know if this will fit into an Antec Three Hundred? TIA
roguewarrior 3 years ago
it came whit the fans or you have to buy it?
PHEGOX 3 years ago
Thanks mate. Actually, I just covered the first row, so 4 of them aren't covered by heat sinks. I've also attached a 12cm fan on top of the main sink, so.. It works ;) 38c idle, 50c~ full load. Down from 88c idle, 116c with the old system. If it breaks, it breaks.
Thanks for the excellent video.
DrOnline82 3 years ago
I've the EXACT same card as in the video - but at 2:37, I seem to haev been issued slightly different sinks. I've got 4 of those oblong ones that stick out on the long side, beyond where the adhesive side is. Makes me uncertain about it, cus I can't cover all 8 of those tiny black chips entirely. Any thoughts?
DrOnline82 3 years ago
Hmmm maybe the same card but it depends on when you bought it too i could be wrong. Correct me on that one. Manufacturing process change over time (revisions) usually to increase efficiency and to lower cost. You may want to try zalman heat sinks their size profile is much smaller Just google zalman ramsinks (they are blue/purple colour). Hopefully this hopes you. Let me know if u need more info. Sorry to late replies everyone. (if anyone reads this)
alphaken 3 years ago
@DrOnline82 My exact same card died today :( Time to upgrade I guess.
EMPPT 5 months ago
@EMPPT Hell yeah, 4850 is really outdated today. I went for the GTX 570, got it a month or two ago, it's pretty nice. Good luck with your new video card ;)
DrOnline82 5 months ago
Lol, I can´t wait for the Accelero XTREME 4870X2 :D
h4X3r43 3 years ago
That will definitely cool it down lol. 3 fans for a video card. Kinda unbelieveable that Video cards now are more powerful then CPUs.
alphaken 3 years ago
hey guys, i was wondering do u have to use Rubbing Alcohol to get the paste off. cant i just use a linen glasses cloth ?
Vex123s 3 years ago
You could use linen however you may not be able to get all the thermal residual paste out of the chip that why alcohol will work. Plus it nearly dries instantly so you don't have to deal with moisture
alphaken 3 years ago
nice vid !!! man congratz im waiting for the 4890 release!!!!!! btw whats the title of the song?
zxcalvaryxz 3 years ago
It's an anime song. You can search it in google for "Kaori Oda Brilliant World mp3" you should be able to get it on the first hit
alphaken 3 years ago
LOL when you look at idle the fanspeed is 0% then when you lokk at load the fan speed is at 41% and when you have abetter case with more fans the graka doesnt go hot!!! 1 fan in the front 1 in the back and 1 on the top mabye and the left side of the case and your pc is coooooL! xD
Saipyyyy 3 years ago
Yea my fan speed is 0% cuz the fan is not plugged into my video card. I plugged it in directly to my PSU. To be honest i don't have side fans in my case. I only have front and back. I did buy a new case (much larger) so i get more air flow.
alphaken 3 years ago
I just followed your instructions (same vid card).
My monitor didn't recognize my vid card when I plugged it back in.
I went back to the old stock heatsink and it was recognized again.
Someone mentioned it may not be working due to the gpu not allowing the device to run when it detects no fan has been connected.
Any ideas?
mbol1 3 years ago
Well i had a similar problem. After i installed my accelero, i got nothing on my monitor. It turned out that the accelero was so heavy that it was pushing down the video card, making it less than 90 degrees angle with respect to the mobo, therefore, not making a good connection between card and pcie slot. I got the video card back exactly perpendicular to my mobo and it worked again.
dunlrock 3 years ago
Same here. I barely hear mine with the turbo module. A great mod for any 48xx ati card. Thanks for posting your temps!!. It give others an idea how much it can cool your card
alphaken 3 years ago
That's great. There should be no problem installing it as long as yours is a reference card. Most other card should be okay. Please check the manufacture website for more info.
alphaken 3 years ago
Sorry =D, everyone has their taste. But thanks for the comment. Greatly appreciated
alphaken 3 years ago
Hi,
first of all, thank you for uploading this video. I had some questions that now are solved. Just two things:
1) what is "rubbing alcohol"? -> 1:32
2) what is an eraser (1:46)? The thing you erased with something you wrote with a pencil?
Thanks
joaoalm1111 3 years ago
Your welcome!
Good luck !
alphaken 3 years ago
Have you noticed that the stock cooler is NOT copper at all? I found this out by scratching the heatsink with a door key. I'm amazed how ATI had to lie...
dunlrock 3 years ago
Nope it's not copper at all. there is a copper paint coating on it. I wouldn't say it's ATI who is lying about it. ATI don't usually make their cards. Third party companies do such as Sapphire, Diamond, Palit. etc..
alphaken 3 years ago
How far does the cooler sticks out of the PCB of the card? I would like to buy 1 aswell but i don't know if it will fit :S
Tasqa1993 3 years ago
card + accelero + fan = takes up 3 slots
dunlrock 3 years ago
Thnx I'm going with a Accelero Twin Turbo now then ;-) is to arrive on tuesday, maybe post an video aswell
Tasqa1993 3 years ago
Good luck with your installation
alphaken 3 years ago
Yup. You should be able to do CrossfireX. I did it with mine with no issue
alphaken 3 years ago
Thats strange, mine idles @ 35C like you but i get load temps of 57C. Also, when i used the stock cooler, my load temp was 76C with 100% fan.
I don't know for sure but could it be that my card just runs hotter than others?
dunlrock 3 years ago
first not every card is made the same. Good job.
alphaken 3 years ago
Well, its great from 100% fan (stock cooler) with load temp of 76C to 57C load with Accelero :)
Not to mention its amazingly quiet :)
Ty for helping out!
dunlrock 3 years ago
and like i hear from many people. No regrets... money well spent. =D thanks for your feedback. dunlrock
alphaken 3 years ago
2:37
hm, did you fuck up there ?
levlobotomy 3 years ago
nope i didn't... i don't understand what you mean about **** up. i don't see anything wrong there
alphaken 3 years ago
i mean the bottom mosfet row. the row above it is covered by the hsf but the lower row isnt, or at least it doesnt appear to be, as i can see their black plastic tops. they do tend to get scorching hot. i put copper revoltec hsfs on both rows.
levlobotomy 3 years ago
oh the video was only meant for whatever that came with the package. As mentioned in my previous post. And to confirm mine is still working perfectly fine. no issues. The turbo module does help with the heat as it pushes air through the fins. I also did mention for people to buy zalman ramsinks in my previous post if they are uncomfortable leaving them naked. But thanks for the suggestions it good for other people who may want to install additional stuff on the video cards
alphaken 3 years ago
hey... i just bought AC Accelero twin turbo for my 4850 and i just wondering.. how tightly do i have to do it?
dunlrock 3 years ago
you screw in opposite ends like an X ... so screw top left then bottom right. then top right then bottom left. You will screw bit by bit. just hand tight is fine.
alphaken 3 years ago
i just got the accelero twin turbo and i gotta say i LOVE it. but one thing that makes me worried is the VRM/ VRAM temps. You accelero has no problems?
dunlrock 3 years ago
right now, since i made the video i have no issues what so ever, i ended up doing a crossfire setup too. So i can safely say it's fine. Remember the twin turbo will help cool the VRAM as it pushes air through
alphaken 3 years ago
what do you mean by accelero can be installed top or bottom?
dunlrock 3 years ago
i mean that you could install on the top or bottom slot...i wasn't too clear on that section
alphaken 3 years ago
wow, is that Accelero the one that cost about 20 bucks?
im thinking of doing this, but i dont have much experience with that kind of stuff.
im about one step below that lol.
Is it hard or are the possibilities of messing something up, high?
metalliholic 3 years ago
Hmmmm the accelero varies it prices range from 20-$35. it varies from country to country, state to state. In europe, it tends to be a bit more expensive. Just make sure your card you are using it compatible with the accelero as there are 2 versions. And installation is not hard at all, just prepare the tools you need, have a clean surface, and make sure you are ground or wearing a static strap. It will lessen your risk of damaging your card. Hope this helps, and good luck.
alphaken 3 years ago
Thanks a bunch
because for some reason my card has been getting really hot lately. it must have been from the CCC update
Im using the ati 4850, and before it would usually only get to the high 80's maybe low 90's on load. But for some reason its been going to the 100's. Even when i crank up the fan.I mean it doesnt crash or anything, but those are some high temps. compared to before.
Thanks for the info, ill look out for the different versions
would say that its compatible with the 4800's?
metalliholic 3 years ago
From what i know that Accelero Rev. 2 is compatible with reference card. I wish i can post pictures to show you. What brand is you card or model ?
alphaken 3 years ago
reference card?
what do you mean by that.
Oh and i have The Visiontek radeon 4850.
If thats what you ment by brand.
metalliholic 3 years ago
I also have this combination, I get 30 degrees idle and 44-45 degrees on max load (tested with FurMark and gpu-z)
These temps are with the twinfans and
Arctic Silver 5 Premium Silver Compound.
Because the heatsinks you get with the cooler are not very good, I used Zalman ZM-RHS1 heatsinks.
Nice video btw
NazcaXL 3 years ago
That's great to hear. =D glad someone posted some of their results. The AS5 is definitly better then the compound they put on the accelero (i think it's lower grade compound, forgot what was called) Yep, i have mentioned the blue zalman ramsinks here they are much better then the accelero ones, plus they are shorter and stick better. thanks again for giving your results, much appreciated
alphaken 3 years ago
Hello!
What temps will be if I dont put any fans on Accelero S1 Rev. 2?
Mercu4a 3 years ago
It roughly about 20 degrees (celius) warmer depending on air circulation in your case. So if your stock temp is 90 degrees and let's say your accelero with fan is about 45-50. It will be roughly 65 degree without it(this is a rough estimate). I should let you know the turbo fans are near silent if noise/price is an issue. U could also strap in a 120mm fan to it as well, maybe more economical.
alphaken 3 years ago
I bought some extra ramsinks for the MOSFETs, the blue zalman ones. I saw in the final pics that you did sink your MOSFETs, but you don't mention it in your video, which I think is very important and should be a regular part of adding the s1 to the 4850. It's a shame that the heatsink included in the s1 package doesn't fit the 4850.
Do you think it's better to actually remove all the thermal adhesives on the ramsinks and use a compound (as5) instead? Is that better for heat transmission?
iceman1121 3 years ago
the tranmission of heat will be better for sure, but how would they stick? the compound is just a compound paste and it's not an adhesive. You should take a look at Arctic Silver ASTA-7G which is a thermal adhesive. You might want to search it on newegg and they do carry the adhesive and removal compound. It about $20 all together. If you want to go for that route you should get both just in case they get discontinued. Hopefully this helps
alphaken 3 years ago
Ya know - those ramsinks are the cheapest around, there should be a rev. 3 - where the adhesive is made by 3M instead of some second hand brand!! You should have showed THAT in the video. Anyway, if you weren't effected by that you're lucky!
heftycat 3 years ago
Agreed, the ramsinks r not the greatest ones. However mine is sticking because the process i gone through to remove the waxy coating to give the rams chips a matte finish to stick on.Also, using other ramsinks defeat the whole purpose of using the set that was given by Arctic Cooling. If i use zalman ramsink (mentioned somewhere in these comments) it will forced normal user to buy additional items; which is not intent.I show this video to let everyone know they can do their mod with this set. Thanks
alphaken 3 years ago
i agree with you. There should be a rev3 for it and use like the 3M. It is far superior, but what can we do either then complain to them or buy our own. But they do stick. Even now they are fine, so far they are holding on. And i have remove the card several times because i bought a new case.
alphaken 3 years ago
The fans are quieter than the original fan?
I want to buy one soon, i have to know, the quiet is very important for me.
thx
Slipandris 3 years ago
The fan is adjustable with the new catalyst drivers so you can control the noise from it. Also any non-referenced ati cards tend to have a quieter fans (usually they are dual slot design). If you are ready to install an accelero it will near silent. I hope this helps you out.
alphaken 3 years ago
How did you get 4 VRM sinks when the website says it only includes 2 VRM sinks? I also heard some people get a single long RAMsink
dunlrock 3 years ago
Make sure you get rev 2. The other version i don't think has 4. I could be wrong. Also Rev.2 is the only one that is compatible to 4850 4870 reference card
alphaken 3 years ago
Hey. Awesome Video, helped me really out. It looks easy but anyway i got a question: do I need apply Thermalgrease on the Ram too?
How carefull I need to be when I clean the Chip? Can it be damaged?ß
thanks a lot!
wikki11 3 years ago
Thanks for the comment!. Glad it helps. Nope you don't need any thermal grease. The ram chips have an adhesive (tape) that just sticks on the ram chips. Cleaning it is fairly easy, you just have to a grounded(skin touching metal or anti-static strap)so all static from your body gets dissipated. Also place it on a solid surface that does not collect statc such as work table, tile, or glass. Avoid Carpet, fabrics, or some rubbers that may contain some static.
alphaken 3 years ago
can u tell me where u got the song? :D
dunlrock 3 years ago
just google "Kaori Oda Brilliant World mp3" you should be able to get it on the first hit
alphaken 3 years ago
well the same page lol.
alphaken 3 years ago
Thanks!! your the first one =D . I like anime and the game that associated with. But thanks for the comment. I know it's not for everyone.
alphaken 3 years ago
How did you solved the turbo module's clips?
i've got a ECS 9800gt and it came with the accelero S1, but those cooler clips are the sadest thing i've ever seen. they don't clip correctly onto the heatspreader, and i had to bend them so the clip could lock in there, but still i'm far from being happy with that.
BrunoRaven 3 years ago
Hmmmm how is your temp on it? i can take a picture of mine. but i dunno if it will help you much as they are different cards. If you want a picture i can send one over to you.
alphaken 3 years ago
Also do you know if I can use rubbing alcohol + qtips to clean the VRAM?
I dont know the best way to clean VRAM
dunlrock 3 years ago
Yup you can use rubbing alcohol. Just make sure it's completely dry before installing ramsinks. and also just make sure you don't use facial tissue which could leave some fine partical
alphaken 3 years ago
my room temp right is 22C and my GPU always idles at 80C if i leave the stock fan on automatic
if i play games, i start to get artifacts and i notice that my temps are above 105C
the only way around this is to leave fan at 70% to get 90C load
dunlrock 3 years ago
Im running this on stock clock btw, i did not mod or took off the stock cooler before
dunlrock 3 years ago
I have a comment somewhere in here also had high temps but after installing it they too have a large drop in temp. I would recommending trying this mod out if the temp is bothering u
alphaken 3 years ago
hmmmm i guess it come to the brand of video card and the type of cooler they are using. That's odd. It is pretty high.
alphaken 3 years ago
mine is visiontek and i bought it in sept 08
the weird thing is, my card has NO sticker on it
dunlrock 3 years ago
This one right?
(dot)xtremesystems(dot)org(slash)forums(slash)showthread(dot)php(question mark)p(equal)3059788
Odd, the only thing i can think of is the thermal tape they use or the chip inside or even though it's the same chip, not all chips are made equal. It's the same as CPUs, AMD x3 processor really actually has 4 but 1 is defective.
alphaken 3 years ago
yeah... howd u figure it out? :P
so u think its better to reapply thermalpaste? I have AS5
dunlrock 3 years ago
maybe, i can't really say unless u try it. the arctic silver should be good, should help on the heat just how much i dunno
alphaken 3 years ago
Don't use AS5 unless you're really careful with it; that stuff is conductive and if it gets on anything other than the GPU/ram it could fry your card. Go for Ceramique or MX-2. Good stuff without the conductivity.
DonInKansas 3 years ago
How are u getting 67C idle under stock fan when i get 80C idle with stock fan? my load temp hits 104C without editting fan speed :(
dunlrock 3 years ago
it really depends on your air circulation inside your case. You might want to try taking the side panel off and see if the temperature improve. Also do you live in a warmer climate? warmer ambient temperature = warmer temp inside the case
alphaken 3 years ago
you got a damn car grill on that thing.
relicright 3 years ago
it does look like a radiator.. hahaha. As long as it works
alphaken 3 years ago
Nice drop in temps
1egenDarySonic 3 years ago
Thank you!
alphaken 3 years ago
Im getting better temps then that with my Accels1 Rev 2 cooler set up. Its a little more work but Well! worth it. Watch my video to see.
Num1shark 3 years ago
Temps depends on many factors & every person have different results.
Here are some factors
1. Air circulation
2. CPU Overclock
3. Size of Case
4. Spacing between cards
5. Ambient temp (both in & outside the case)
Temperatures are accurately measured if both are placed in a controlled environment. Therefore, all results may vary. My video sole purpose is helping ppl install their accelero and the expected temps that they may achieve when doing so. Not for comparing to other ppl results
alphaken 3 years ago
Im not really comparing (every one knows these factors). I just dont like the ram heat sinks that comes with the kit. Im not downing your video, only wanting to show that theres a better solution then what comes with the kit. Good video though.
Num1shark 3 years ago
Thanks 4 the comment! As quoted "getting better temps then that with my Accels" which is comparsion.Ppl knowing these factors is just an assumption,i believe many r new to this or maybe don't understand y results vary. This is Y these videos r made so ppl r aware of them & Y ppl ask questions.I truely believe in supporting ppl if they have questions & i try to answer them like my other video.I do agree that the ramsinks r not the best but this video is meant to install the accelero w/stock package
alphaken 3 years ago
without additional cost to the user.
For everyone else,if u have time to watch Num1shark video please do.
alphaken 3 years ago
How is ur VRM temps? vram temps?
im mostly concerned about the VRM temps, i dont want to fry the card, i wanna buy this cooler but i heard it comes with cheap mosfet sinks
dunlrock 3 years ago
They are pretty good. I heard the same thing. If you are uncomfortable using them (i don't blame you) you might want to try the zalman vga ramsinks.

DonInKansas 3 years ago
I know it's not for everyone. But thanks for the comment!!! keep it coming =D
alphaken 3 years ago
Thanks for the video. Wish I could watch it while putting everything together haha. You seem to reply quickly, so I'll ask you a question. My card is being ridiculous and idling at 87 degrees, and quickly hitting 104 while under load. Do you think there may be a problem with the card itself, or do you think a new cooler will fix it?
Krynn72 3 years ago
Thanks for the comment.I gotta support what i do right, which i think many places lack. But to answer your question. The temperature is a little high but not unheard of. I for one have issue with air flow in my case so i added a higher CFM exhaust fan. Look for a Fluid Bearing fan from arctic cooling or Scythe they have great outputs and low noise (< dbs) Also try to clean up inside your case especially cabling, which could easily block airflow.
alphaken 3 years ago
and ppl don't really think about it but overclocking your CPU can really increase the temp inside your case. So its a more reason to get the warm air out. And in terms of if this accelero will work for you. I would say yes it would. Remember it depends on every person, but you would get lower temp at least less than 100 degrees on load. that to me is worth it. If you decide to get it i would recommend measuring the width of the case just to make sure it fits.
alphaken 3 years ago
Yeah, I was thinking that the airflow was probably bunk. I've got a fairly small case with tons of hardware packed into there and wires everywhere since I dont have anywhere to get them out of the way. I ordered a better case along with the cooler, so hopefully that will get me back to a normal temperature. Thanks for the quick response.
Krynn72 3 years ago
anytime, good luck. Let me know how it goes. Did you tie up your cables? If you have IDE cables (those ribbon types) try to get those rounded IDE cables those really help.
alphaken 3 years ago
Hahah oh lawdy lawd thats a big difference. Just finished installing putting everything together. My new case is massive, and has holes in the motherboard tray to route the cables through, clearing the way for air. I got the cooler installed, with only a little trouble (your video helped a lot) and wow, the temperature drop is crazy. Idling now, its 39 degrees Celsius, instead of 87. I havent tested it under load yet, but im sure it wont get out of hand like before. Thanks for your help.
Krynn72 3 years ago
amazing!! great that it is working for you!!! =D wow nice job. Yea on load it would probably hit around 45 to 50 at most.
Your welcome, thanks for the comment. That's good that my video helped. i'm glad =D

i hate this music sorry

no worries... lol everyone has their own taste in music. =D
i don't take it to heart. As long as u get something out of the video, it's all worth it
alphaken 3 years ago
it's great that you keep a good sense of humor about it :D
i actually bought a 4850 and accelero after seeing this vid, currently in transit..
beoba 3 years ago
hey you gotta be, i think people take things too seriously. Good luck in installing it if you get everything prepared it should be pretty smooth sailing. And when you are mounting it make quarter turns on each screw in cross fashion so u evenly apply pressure to the GPU. Make sure your grounded and you should be set to go. Let me know how it goes
alphaken 3 years ago
you don't need to do all this as i have two powercolor 4850 pcs extreme editions and they have a ok sized fan and both of them in corssfire run at around 42 degrees idle and 48-49 degrees load
hudders123 3 years ago
yup that's correct you don't need it. but remember this video was posted on August 14, 2008 about one and half months ago. And the release date of the RV700 was on June 25, 2008. At the time most if not all radeon 4850 &4870 are still using reference cards coolers. 3rd party coolers have not really been implemented at the time. This video is useful for people we bought reference cards or who adopted the cards early like i have. I bought another 4850 palit and i didn't have install one
alphaken 3 years ago
wuts song?

The song is from a Nintendo DS game called Luminous Arc. The Singer is "Kaori Oda". Song title is "Brilliant World". I truely enjoyed playing the whole game so i added the song as a way of saying thank you lol...(yes i know that sounds so lame but it was good game)
alphaken 3 years ago
questions... i have 4850 and it runs really hot so im getting accelero s1 rev2 as well
hows the ram sinks?
are there enough RAM/ vreg sinks just the accelero package itself? Do i have to buy extra vreg/ramsinks?
dunlrock 3 years ago
the rams sinks are ok. =D
alphaken 3 years ago
add this vid as my fav..just few questions, did you use that glue thing(dont know what its called usually use on cpu) when installing the ram sink?ram sink included in package?that glue thing included also?
