This is really really great to watch i started playing straight pool just about 3 months ago and still learning the fine tune skills of this game...now with the run and patterns i see here i am going to take back to my pool hall

The thing that makes pros so good is not that they're perfect. No one is. One thing I think that makes them great is their ability to recover from bad shots. This video is a perfect example.

He pocketed a ball from the pack when he shot the breakout. Doesn't he have to spot that ball? I thought all shots have to be called in straight pool.

The game is straight pool or 14.1 continuous - which means you pocket 14 balls and leave 1 ball up. The other 14 re-racked - and you pocket that last ball from the last rack (break ball) and send the cue ball into the new rack. This is why it is imperative to have a break ball in a good position - as well as having the cue ball in position so that it has a natural angle to contact the rack and spread the balls.
