Instead of wishing a great actor was only on one TV show (TNG) why can't we just appreciate other shows for being as entertaining & true to source material?
Or appreciate them for obviously displaying actors so good that you wish they were in something better. Obviously if you like the Dr enough to want him in something else, then Voyager deserves more credit then it was given.
Even IF Voyager deserved rating or memories on par with TNG people judge early on "TNG over all"
"Ehh, your biradial clamp's out of alignment." Bahaha! I never noticed that line before. Or the apathetic way he waves the tricorder up and down. Picardo rules.
you know the first time I seen the Doc, was the movie Explorers, and believe it or not he wasnt a cast member, he was a alien, on the movie screen, and I remembered him by voice alone, scary! check it out....I want to know if its true....
@KaneinEncanto Now we know why Tuvok tried his own version of this in the episode "Meld". Neelix acutally is a fairly deep and interesting character. So why the hell do I want to snap his neck? Must be a testament to the fact that humans descend from predators. That's all I can think.
Best remedy I ever found for the "can't stand Neelix" issue... get a copy of Star Trek: Voyager: Elite Force... set up a 'multiplayer' game with a Neelix or two using easy bots, and enjoy.
The Doctor was the BEST character on that show. Voyager wouldn't have made it as a successful show without him. The best episodes were the ones that focused on him. And was always so interesting to see his character from just a computer program that most of the crew didn't even like to an equal member.
of all the episodes, you hit the right one as the funniest of all in my books... even told my brother about it before he even saw it and he laughed just from me describing it
"Star Trek Tng" and "Voyager" are my two favorite Sci-fi shows; and Robert Picardo and Brent Spiner are my two favorite actors from those shows. Data and the Doctor rock!! :D
lol, epic win! however the funniest voyager moments were 7/9 and harry kim in the messhall in revulsion (do you wish to copulate?) and Q's OMG face in the Q and the grey (what are you doing with that dog?...... i'm not talking about the puppy!)
@SerPinkKnight more like moronic writing. like when Kes came back. anyone notice she had gained weight? and of course past-Kes had too. altered timeline!?!? i basically had to wash my brain after that episode and just store it in an alternate dimension. *shudder*
I love Voyager but, I didn't even come close to a smirk, much less a laugh. The doctor is by far the funniest character in my opinion, but this scene just didn't do it for me. =\
tom paris and the doctor were my favourite characters. i thought they were both very well rounded characters that had great character arcs throughout the 7 seasons.
@ind0ctr1n3: In case someone wonders where did Jeri Ryan prove her ability to play a variety of characters, I guess an episode 5x07 Infinite Regress would be your argument, right? ;-)
@Ceberuss I forget what the episode was called, but in my opinion, she proved it in that episode when 7 of 9 had the Borg equivalent of multiple personality disorder. Every single one of the characters she had to play (and near the end, since she was changing characters every couple of seconds, there was definitely no 'cut' and editing, so she was actually doing those characters in one take near the end) was done so brilliantly and believably ..she's a true actress in my books...
@1ownjoo2 Neelix was the JarJar Binks of Star Trek. He was to annoying. And I really didn't understand why he was at so many crew meetings. I get that he was a local, but still he's the ship's chef for jeebus sake!
Kes was boring as hell. She was so meek, so naive (her character was written this way, and it wasn't a good choice.) I think there are maybe 5 times in her entire time on the show (not counting the time-traveling episode, and the possession by warlord episode) where she raised her voice.
she started a little doubtful due to being young and in a new environment, but she had great strength. When did kess ever show a lack of courage? She has a passive attitude, but if anyone ever made that respectable it's her. It is wisdom and admirable self control that leads to her being even tempered, not weakness. When it comes to standing up for what she believes in she CAN NOT be budged.
I think you're too influenced by our aggresion based culture.
No, I saw a boring character that was their second choice to let go after Kim, however Kim had become too popular by then. They knew the character wasn't popular, either. The actress could be capable, but they wrote her really weak parts.
Picard could do peaceful. Kes was just weakly written.
Remember, they got rid of her early. So it's not like no one else thought the character wasn't going anywhere, either. If they hadn't made her the Doctor's advocate, she would be even worse.
Robert Picardo was quite the actor on this show. He, like Brent Spiner, had an amazing range of personalities and characters and emotions. And, Voyager was Great!! Some episodes were not good, but, overall....loved it, and miss it. Wish they had done a Movie with that cast!!! Well, most of them...could do without Neelix and Kes!
Oh....Best Trek line Ever....Janeway--'There's COFFEE in that Nebula!'
@Rainb0wSeven Awww.. well, I found Neelix annoying too at the beginning, but then he really started to grow on me until I ended up liking him..I COMPLETELY agree with you about Kes though. She was really boring and actually annoying.Especially when she was getting 'visions' and would make those faces.I found myself frequently sarcastically saying out loud (after rolling my eyes) 'heeeeere we go again.. This is probably my favorite episode and scene. What's great is comb over and split screen aside, Robert Picardo really looks almost like 2 different people here. The facial expressions, body language, tone of voice. He's a great actor!

Best remedy I found for being 'unable to stand Neelix':
1) Get a copy of ST:V:Elite Force (the first one)
2) Set up a 'multiplayer game' using easy bots with Neelix's skin
3) Perforate, vaporize, and explode Neelix until feeling better. :)

This is probably my favorite episode and scene. What's great is comb over and split screen aside, Robert Picardo really looks almost like 2 different people here. The facial expressions, body language, tone of voice. He's a great actor!

@ericco79 I know! I seriously forgot for a minute there that it's not two different actors.
