QUESTION: I just bought this and i notice that the two speakers have different sounds. As in, one is picking up higher pitch sounds and the other not so loud. I'm guessing this is how its supposed to be to get a full range. Or do I need to take this bitch back for another one? Also, should i have bought the protection plan?

I think these speakers suck! The sound like garbage. Bose is way over priced. I'm returning mine today. The louder they get the more the bass drops out of them. They sound like a bad AM radio.

I love Bose speakers . i got the companion 5 that its similar to your companion 3 system , since i got a HTPC i had to pick the companion 5 to get 5.1 surround out of my bluerays and PC games . the performance of this Bose speakers its amazing . They normally go for around $400.00 + tax but i purchase the on sale at best buy for $350.00 + tax .

Lol, BOSE. Every BOSE system I've tried seems to have some sort of really horrid IMD in the higher midrange and treble. If it's a trick to make it sound more "crisp" or if it's simply due to the ultra-cheap drivers they use, I don't know, but it isn't a good thing.

Yes, as the price is not justified by any means. They're all marketed as "high-end", when in reality they aren't. The sound quality is comparable to any $30 Trust system you find at Wal-Mart, and I seriously doubt that you'd be able to label either system superior in either measured sound quality or build quality.

This isn't "audiophile" me speaking, it's EE me speaking. Subjective tests are still completely irrelevant if the objective data state otherwise; these, along with pretty much all other BOSE products, are very poor performers, sold at a completely unreasonable price. There is a reason for BOSE not to publish the specifications for their products.

It is already hard for a 4" driver in a decently sized enclosure to reach low-enough for a subwoofer to take over. It's hard for a $200 full-range speaker to reach high-enough. Then imagine how the ultra-cheap 3" paper drivers in miniature enclosures BOSE use will perform. I don't feel like wasting money on a BOSE system just for the sake of busting it, so I don't have any measurements of my own. However, if you google "Intellexual BOSE" and click the first hit, you'll find some.

I think pretty much any semi-proper set of studio monitors (even cheap stuff like the M-Audio AV40s) class worlds above. Better yet, a set of full-range monitors, such as my JBL 4311s or some of the bigger of the older Yamaha NS series, but those are in another price range.

the jacks and cables are a worry...

The cable to connect to the pc (mac in my case) that comes with the comp 3 is constantly giving me trouble has it crackels and pops.. also the headphone jack tolerances are off and hard to engage/disengage the headphones...

Heres the thing , I've had the 3's and 5's , I settled for the 3's, they have a more direct sound for music, unlike the 5's which give more of an echoed or surround sound effect, hope this helps.

Thats a realy good piece of stuff the quality of you video doesnt matter for me because on holl youtube every one use a webcam or a digital camera and the will be almost the same but that is real nice i can realy hair the bass. I have for my self a creative head set :) and i can realy hear it good.

Lol. always reduce ur volume if its too high. dont mute and reduce. cuz the speaker needs to get comfortable to lowering. if its JUST shut off at a loud volume the loud sound gets trapped into the speaker for a bit. but then again when ur work it in. it will sound better and would be tougher.

Creative bought Cambridge Soundworks about ten years ago. I have a set of Cambridge Soundworks Digital II computer speakers that I bought about fifteen years ago and their still going strong and they sound great.

Nice review, my only complaints are that the system is far too expensive (overpriced) and the sub is geared for music genres which don't require lots of bass (country, rock etc....). I listen to mostly every genre of music, especially hip hop. My past experiences with this system is that it does not do good with hip hop or any other bass dependent genre due to the design and power (lack there of) of its bass speaker. Cheaper systems from logitech and klipsch do a better job with hip hop.

under Mac OS X forget about these, no output in 44Khz

only 48Khz so far no software update from Bose to fix this.

This barely constitutes a review, what information about these speakers did you even give? They sound great - but you won't be able to hear that through my low impedance mic and your inferior speakers! What other Bose speakers have you owned? How do these stack up to the Companion 3 Series I? If you dislike the "messy" convenience of the auxiliary jack, why don't you just unplug them from your (presumably) on-board audio card and plug them directly into the other audio source?

I looked at the other videos you have posted and if those are the other Bose products you are comparing these to, that is a rather invalid point. Bose is not making its systems to compete with each other, they are to be compared to other similar products. Comparing your 2.1 system to your 2.0 system or your alarm is inane as obviously a 2.1 system will have a fuller range of sound than either of the other two.

Specs never come true on computer speakers. only 1 point: you can never say good speakers are pricy:) and he's right companion 5 are crap, cuz every audiophile prefers stereo, no surround (and hell no 2.1 surround!!!) these speakers are awesome for the price; you dont need a soundcard because it's build-in.
