i don't really understand why some of you people think artists should try not to sound like other artists. as long as you're writing good songs who fucking gives a shit if you sound exactly like some other artist?
@Greffwe i think you're confused. i think one artist imitating the sound of another artist is fine, and that it's not a good reason to write said artist off. it doesn't bother me. that is an entirely different matter from whether i think this song sounds like a joy division song. i don't think it does.
@Greffwe My point about quality hadn't been made previously. That certainly does contribute to the discussion. I offered my opinion on the song as well. Do you have anything to offer besides inanity and demonstrating your inability to comprehend what you read?
@axis462 sorry if i offended you. just trying to have a discussion here on how we define estetic value, you seem to have the opinion that it is something objective and absolute while i strongly disagree.
I don't think that it's objectively true that the song sounds nothing like Joy Division. If someone has a different opinion that's fine. I just don't feel the need to preface every single one of my opinions with "I think that" or "I believe that." The fact that it's my subjective opinion should be understood as implicit.
Sounds like Scott Walker fronting Ariel Pinks Haunted Grafitti, which sounds like R Stevie Moore. he's got that grunt of Scott Walker or even fuckin Kurt Cobain
@wholemag1 I don't think its just the bass, clearly his low key vocals and 80s post punk sensibilities are bringing these comparisons. I think a lot of people would agree he's drawing from that particular movement and by extension Joy Division. If you ever see him live he even engages in similar on stage 'fits' that Ian Curtis was notorious for.
quantum leap i love that show

@axis462 why do you feel the need to point out what this doesn't sound like if you don't give a fuck?

Spin Mag sent to a song I like finally!! Though he could back off the Joy Division a little. Next maybe he'll hang himself to fit in.
