  • Im an Aussie. And I had the privelege of visitng Texas in 2003. Even did the Dallas Becomes Chicago Pub Crawl with some wickedly beautiful Texan ladies who seemed to love the old aussie accent. Loved the food the country the people and The Alamo... the best monument in the US. Thos Noo Yerkers can have the bloody french present (lady Liberty) but Texas with the alamo you have something that is uniquely yours and yours alone!!! REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!!

  • I Like Texas

The people looks like my people, named Gauchos, who lives in south of Brazil, close Argentina.

    Live Long To Texas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Big Hug !!

  • JapanMan there is no such thing as a Texas Stereotype....we just don't like people coming here and tellin us how to live our lives. Another ignorant out sider making assumptions when he doesn't know a thing about us.

  • Tradercris you need to read up on your history. By the time the civil war was fought Emily Morgan Jones, was back east and a free woman. The Battle of San Jacinto took place in 1836 AFTER the Alamo. Emily Morgan laid her life on the line and interfered with Santa Ana plans and kept him distracted long enough for Sam Houston n his boys to get there and open a can of whup ass on him. Emily Morgan is a heroine in Texas.

  • Excellent slideshow performance by the Texas State Symphony Orchestra and Michael Martin Murphy

  • actually its from way before that. Its a legend from the battle of the Alamo. Sam Houston sent a mulatto woman to distract Santa Anna while the Texians set up. Though its believed that it was actually a colored/black free woman that was captured prior to the battle and the myth grew from that...but whatever, its a nice song

  • not the Alamo, but the battle of San Jacinto. That's when Houston crushed Santy Anny

  • The Yellow Rose of Texas was a mulatto, the daughter of an enslaved African-American woman and a White American man. The dude who originally sang this song was off fighting in the CSA and missed her very much. I believe it was acutally a relationship of true love, not master-slave dominance as was quite common through out the South before Grant crushed the rebellion and ended the "slave-ocracy" so many there sought to perserve.

  • tradercris, boy do you need a history lesson regarding your Gen. Grant. If the war was over slavery then answer me why your Gen. Grant owned slaves? Why would he crush a rebellion and end slavery when he owned them himself? Quit buying into this "yankee" rewritten history and go read about what the War of Northern Aggression was really all about.

  • Michael's CD "Sagebrush Symphony", which includes this song, is a great collaboration of singers of all types and races, singing some wonderful old songs. Check it out

  • thanks for the recommend I will certainly investigate <3

  • post agreat live version !

  • thats my cuz i love you michael

  • Some of the best times of my life were spent in Texas. I lived in a party town called Galveston for 2 years. Felt like there was more basic freedom than in San Diego, CA

  • I am of the Canary islands, Spain. My forbears canarians founded the city of San Antonio in the year 1731, this way that some drop of my blood runs for the veins of many Texans. I will like some day to know your land. An embrace fondly to all the Texans from Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.

  • We ran the messicans out of San Antonio a long time ago. Remember the Alamo!

  • Facepalm.jpg You are the thing texan sterotypes are made of.

  • Texas as always been a metaphor and symbol of American strength and independence. As a Virginian I say God bless the Republic of Texas.

  • And Texas A & M who plays this beautiful song every halftime!!!! Gig'em Aggies!!!!

  • Texas secede! We are better than the rest of the US.

  • One of my favorite songs. It only has a couple of chords, with a guitar and a couple of friends you can sit and sing all night.

I have to admit video quality isnt so good.

  • I love the song...I have known it since my fifth grade...but after 7 years...i heard this wonderful performance...i love it..thanks...

  • I have to play this for an important quiz for school on my trumpet.Which is really hard.

  • Why bring politics into this? It's just a performance of a song, for God's sake. Not everything that mentions Texas is an invitation to insult President Bush.

  • To answer your question herb0001... because some people can't be happy without insulting others. It makes them feel better about themselves. I've been to Texas, and know a few Texans. Nice place - nicer people.

  • Oh yeah, I took a few crappy videos of it from this past Friday's concert (the 2007 Cowboy Christmas Ball). Take a look, bad quality but still same deal. c]:D

  • Very nice music. The slide show gives an idea of what is going on while the music is playing. I would have loved to hear Michael Murphey's singing. Good instruments tho. Thx for posting. There are not enough videos with Michael's music on YouTube.

  • Thanks for the comment! We are excited to have Michael perform in San Marcos again this year.
