Vasky is a girl. She is skinny because isn't been fed properly. She is no longer living there. She lives in a home with other blind people. She is fed properly now and she has physiotherapy to help her walk. She talks a lot more now and she sings!
And her leg WAS broken.
She is looking and feeling much better now.
That horrible place has been shut down.
My heart goes out to the poor kids. I am glad to see them having a better life and being taken care of properly.

There only excuse is economy and the degradation of the building but love and affection does not cost money and that is what these children need. They could make a Christmas for them and some birthdays. But no, this children do not have Christmas no birthdays. They may not have money but they live on the countryside so somebody of them surely have an apple tree or some other fruits tree at home, they could give these children some fruits, but noooo they do not.

I must say that i´m so happy to live in Sweden. I work with disabled children and they make so much progress thanks to the system that allows them to be helped with different methods. Im so sad to see this and we all know also the corruption in these countries who dont allow the financial help really reach the children. To donate to an organisation is a nice thought but i think that would just feed the politicians pockets =(
Having worked for years with these children , not in Bulgaria but elsewhere , I can tell you that there is no greater pain (except the pain of birth labour) than the one these children suffer ... Let's give credit to their care-takers for having the gentleness and the patience to stay there and give their strength and love , work and support and have the stamina to return the next day .... To clarify the child's legs are the way they are because of lack of therapies to help her regain lost muscles. They need PT and OT and she with her condition (likely) Osteogenesis Imperfecta she would need rods attached to her bones to strengthen them, and continued surgery as she grows. Even that does not prevent breaks ...it just helps prevent as many. Just to clarify the problem here is NOT that she does not have enough "boxed macaroni" as has been suggested. She needs medical care.
Watch teh movie called "The Death of Mr ...." I dont remember the name, unfortunately, but it is a Romanian film. About the possibility of any medical attention in Romania. That would give you an idea .....

My sister adopted a boy from an orphanage in Bulgaria as well. His name is Pavel, and is now 7 yrs old. Very happy after a few years of being frighten of everything. Mostly the fear of my sister leaving him. He would panic, thinking he was being abandoned. He now understands she's coming back, although at times, you can see the fear still in his eyes. He is spoiled by our family and attends a Christian school. Eats like a "horse". Still has some issues on people taking his food away.

I am not surprised by this, but find it apalling. A structure of support needs to be established and the "E-Z Dump your child" mentality common in the former Eastern Bloc has to be blown away. Three of my six children are disabled (all with autism, one of these with Down's Syndrome, too), so I know I have to be stronger than your average Joe. The Bulgarian masses need some positive role models.
Isochest, the Eastern Bloc's handling of those with disabilities strikes me as fairly backward. Do you have any idea what causes this mentality in their cultures, but not Western European and North American ones?
This did go on here in the UK, and probably still does here and in the United States. The problem is always the Adults, never the children. Their selfishness. The root cause is Eugenics which is from my country. It gripped America harder than the UK at one time, but we had a cruel law called the Mental Deficiency Act, passed in 1913, and not repealed until the late 1950s. This forced the incarceration of those with disabilities into institutions. I remember one of these surviving until 1991.

This documentary is equally as worthy of our attention and was shattering to watch. One is no less important than the other. Any abuse whether it be to young and old, animals, sea life or our planet is deeply sad. What we need to do is write to those in positions of power and when all else fails, pray.

I must say that i´m so happy to live in Sweden. I work with disabled children and they make so much progress thanks to the system that allows them to be helped with different methods. Im so sad to see this and we all know also the corruption in these countries who dont allow the financial help really reach the children. To donate to an organisation is a nice thought but i think that would just feed the politicians pockets =(

Having worked for years with these children , not in Bulgaria but elsewhere , I can tell you that there is no greater pain (except the pain of birth labour) than the one these children suffer ... Let's give credit to their care-takers for having the gentleness and the patience to stay there and give their strength and love , work and support and have the stamina to return the next day .... I just saw this on tv, It almost had me in tears, its a happy ending at the end of the programme. In this video the childs leg is really broken thats why she was screaming, just wait untill they interview the lady that runs that place, she thinks its a nice place etc. I dont know how the film crew kept there cool as theres no way I could film that and not lash out at the Staff from hell. Carry on watching as you will like it towards the end.

When I saw this first time, I cried my eyes off. I feel so extremely sorry for these poor kids and I really hope I can help them someday. Really, my heart is bleeding when I hear this cute little Vasky screaming. It´s so sad and awful to hear. Didi is also very cute girl, I feel so sorry when she talks about her mother. She misses her so much :((((((

gosh i remember watching this with my dad.

I have heard that it is extremely difficult to adopt them because their law requires the parents permission, but nobody can find most of the parents.
So: nobody helps them, neither allows anyone else to.

To clarify the child's legs are the way they are because of lack of therapies to help her regain lost muscles. They need PT and OT and she with her condition (likely) Osteogenesis Imperfecta she would need rods attached to her bones to strengthen them, and continued surgery as she grows. Even that does not prevent breaks ...it just helps prevent as many. Just to clarify the problem here is NOT that she does not have enough "boxed macaroni" as has been suggested. She needs medical care.

These people are sick in the head themselves how can you be around children in this condition, and do nothing about it. There are cheaper foods like cans of spagettios, and boxes of macaroni, and cheese that you can even buy in bulk cheap the only disease the kids have is lack of love, and food now feed the the kids. That is just awful to see that kid so skinny. If I lived in that country I would get them out of there myself. Children are our future more rules need to enforced or jail time.

My sister adopted a boy from an orphanage in Bulgaria as well. His name is Pavel, and is now 7 yrs old. Very happy after a few years of being frighten of everything. Mostly the fear of my sister leaving him. He would panic, thinking he was being abandoned. He now understands she's coming back, although at times, you can see the fear still in his eyes. He is spoiled by our family and attends a Christian school. Eats like a "horse". Still has some issues on people taking his food away.

I am not surprised by this, but find it apalling. A structure of support needs to be established and the "E-Z Dump your child" mentality common in the former Eastern Bloc has to be blown away. Three of my six children are disabled (all with autism, one of these with Down's Syndrome, too), so I know I have to be stronger than your average Joe. The Bulgarian masses need some positive role models.

This did go on here in the UK, and probably still does here and in the United States. The problem is always the Adults, never the children. Their selfishness. The root cause is Eugenics which is from my country. It gripped America harder than the UK at one time, but we had a cruel law called the Mental Deficiency Act, passed in 1913, and not repealed until the late 1950s. This forced the incarceration of those with disabilities into institutions. I remember one of these surviving until 1991.

12345abcdeeol, I have seen documentaries on the starving/slave trade/soldier children in Africa as well as the street children and orphans in Brazil - I have raged within and wept my heart out. This documentary is equally as worthy of our attention and was shattering to watch. One is no less important than the other. Any abuse whether it be to young and old, animals, sea life or our planet is deeply sad. What we need to do is write to those in positions of power and when all else fails, pray.
