FYI the first 4 Sydney dates were canceled coz he was having probs with his voice. They rescheduled right in the middle of my HSC trials! I didn't do very well...
Anyway.... He had some voice coaching, to help hitting all those high 'yelling' notes. If you look closely you can see him 'bearing down'. :)
@colette73 Bono never had any voice training until about 1999. He was in a choir in high school and during the Lovetown Tour BB King gave Bono a few tips on how to hit belted-out notes without feeling any pain in the throat.
and to other claiming he 'lost' his voice, that never happened. It just changed with time and 'smoke + style', but he can still do all the Lovetown stuff, and still does. Just not that often.
Bono lost his voice in the 90s? Well it's a good story the '80s purists' like to throw around but the evidence is it just matured. Maturity does that to a man, especially one that used his in such 'violent ways'.
And that's MrJonnyblade's point. U2 concerts from the very beginning were highly charged and Bono's vocal cords certainly took a battering. Also, anyone who suggests Frank Sinatra sounded the same in the 40s as he did in the 60s and 70s, just plainly and simply doesn't have ears.
Losing one's voice is all a part of the ageing process, but because he cant do what he did when he was 20 he gets slagged off for it. U2 will one day quit, when they do music will be the worst for it as we enter an "x" factor and America's got talent generation.
What is true is U2's albums always get slagged off until years later when they become accepted when the rest of music catches up.
I love this tour, they were on fire!! The best they have ever sounded, Edge's guitar playing is raw and sounds amazing as does Bono's voice. They showed exactly what they can really do. Just wish i could av gone to 1 of the gigs!!
People slagging Bono's voice should remember how he lost it. Putting on shows like this almost 200 nights a year for thirty years, you cant have it both ways.
@rianpop Only 25 years old? He was born in 1960. Mid-to-late 90s he was 35 and approaching 40. You're off by a critical 10 years so your point is moot.
When he was 25-28 he was doing Unforgettable Fire - Conspiracy of Hope - Joshua Tree Tour. That was his peak, when he could nail Bad in his sleep, right before the smokes caught up with him.
@U2met86 seing how this comment was made over a year ago i can't remember why i wrote 25 instead of 20. because i ment that U2 as a band were 20 years old in 1995.
A song i never used to like but recently ive just got back to playing rattle and hum and this sure stands out. And sure was massive clue to where they were going next.

cant beleive bondouchbag did this, had to see it for myself, and about puked, why must terrible and lame artist try to remake, or go off other ideas of real artist!
to each their own - not to speak ill of the dead - but he was over rated...the beatles in general were...if you like them that's fine, just don't say everyone wants to be them.
Al pelotudo ese de Bobby quisiera aclararle que no entiende absolutamente nada y se ve que no se da cuenta que U2 jamás pateó tantos traseros en vivo como en la actualidad.
Now everyone is glorifying this (it's truly great) but when R&H came out it got weak reviews and sales. It wasn't JT2 so it flopped. Also POP wasn't AB2 so it "flopped" too (if 8 million sold is a flop).
I wish U2 started focusing on their core audience and make music they like and play clubs.
While I'm not crazy about Pop, All That You Can Leave or Atomic Bomb, I really loved the period between Joshua Tree and Zooropa. That's when they came into their own as musicians and song writers and Bono was nowhere near as obnoxious and messianic as he is now.
How very rude. If you honestly think that u2 are better now than they were 15 years ago good luck to you. But the general opinion of most true fans is that they suck now. Their new single is very weak.
I'm sorry for sounding rude- I was partially just having fun with you. I CAN say that nothin in the last 15 years has come close to how awesome ACHTUNG was, and I'm a DIEHARD fan. BUT - not being as awesome as ACHTUNG or JOSHUA doesnt mean SUCK!!!!
@juanjito20194 hell he smoked cigarettes. Tony bennet , frank sinatra all the gtreat voices kept their voice well into their 60's because they did not smoke or did very very little
Son's a drummer and never paid attention to U2 until I had him listen to this song....he just sat there with his jaw hanging open. Yup, another U2 fan

@MrJonnyblade not even close. Zootv only had 150 shows in 2 years thats 1 show every 4-5 days
Bono lost his voice in the mid 90's when u2 wqas only 25 years old
after the mid 80'su2 only turned to support their album's they did not constantly turn year in and year out. they took 1988 and 1990, and 1994 off
