  • Haha!!!!!

  • Hitchcocks face at the last second is epic

  • first shot still seems creepy, second shot creepy lothario. same effect.

  • I have never seen Hitch laugh or even smile.

Maybe that was just part of his persona. He was highly talented, of course.

  • Hitchcock was a genius!

  • Can you imagine what Hitchcock would have done with Scarlett Johansson? She might have made her first decent movie since her childhood flick, "The Horse Whisperer."

  • He is explain the Kuleshov Effect. Kuleshov do it between 1919 and 1921. But I don't won't say any unrespect to Hitchcock.

  • That is so true!!!!!

  • 1:08 "He's no longer the benign man who loves babies"

sounds a little suspicious Mr. Hitchcock.

  • "Or you for it, as it were."

And Hitchcock just sits there like, " Yeah."

  • HIS GENIUS!!!

  • He was the best.

  • great cinema lesson

  • did i just get a filmmaking lesson from a master?

  • I JUST WATCHED PSYCHO .... awsome !!!!

  • @kkgirl300 Psycho just came out on Blu Ray this week =D. It looks gorgeous in high def!

  • I love Hitchcock's fleeting smugness.

He's not arrogant, but quite comfortable in his artistry.

He reminds me of what I call "the old English".

He makes me proud to be an English man.

  • this is omg!!! What is a genius? This video says it all!

  • such insight

  • I LOVE HITCH.

  • He is no longer the benign gentleman, who loves babies...

  • wow! that's the best explanation for the kuleschow effect i've ever seen!

  • Hey does anyone know what this is taken from?

  • hitchcock is awsome XD

  • He still loves babes either way!

  • woow.. I never thought of it like that. Smart guy! I love his films!

  • This is funny of Hitchcock, and a good explanation of something he did in his films a lot.

  • We saw this in Drama class. Very inspiring. I honestly have to look up this guy(:

  • Seems to me that the Kuleshov effect is emotional metamerism.

  • meta what?

  • She steps out of the room onto the deck in the direct sunlight and you now see that the dress is white. I am using metamerism as a metaphor for the Kuleshov effect, i.e., the mans expression takes on different emotional interpretations to a viewer when matched up with the girl holding the baby vs. the interpretation of the same girl in a bikini. I dont understand why someone chose to give thumbs down on the analogy.

  • I don't understand it quite.

you mean like an optical illusion?

  • Sunmanho, yes, something like that only probably better described as a cognitive illusion. My initial reply post to you in two parts is upside down. Because of the YouTube character limitation I needed to do my reply to you in two parts and I stupidly posted the second part on top of the first. Sorry about that.

  • Sunmanho, Metamerism is a color mutation phenomenon. A girl in a white cotton dress standing in front of an open doorway to a deck with the sun shining directly on her into the room and the walls of the room are painted bright red. If you are standing behind her the dress appears to be red in color.

  • Old man smiling reaction to the woman with the baby in her arms by todays standards equals dirty old man. By 1960 standards he would be considered a kindly man. But today he would be looking at the woman with the baby as a milf. Oh yeah, the girl in the bikini and woman with the baby are the same person. She is wearing a scarf in the footage of holding the baby as camouflage but its the same girl.

  • I hate this decade, this generation...

I hate Hollywood. (And I'm beginning to hate porn, too.)

  • alfred hitchcock would hate you sir. He was always a free open minded person a progressive thinker. What you call "hollywood" is really no more a product of your wants. Hollywood caters to the people, if the people want good movies hollywood would give them good movies. But The people want sex and action, and so hollywood complies. Cinema today is still very powerful and amazing and i dare say better than before. You just have to look for it. You have just looked in the wrong places thats all.

  • Totally agreed.

  • @HS22181 Also remember that by today's standards of politically correctness paranoia, the man smiling at the woman with the baby may be interpreted as a pedophile.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx I agree.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx Oh, cripes. Totally. Very sad.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx

    1. That's not what political correctness means, but I see your point.

    2. I thought they were his family at first. People always go for the simplest conclusions, even if it's a wrong one. Pedophilia isn't really the first thing that comes to mind.

  • This is a great man.

  • Sigb my petiton to stop universal pictures from remaking The Birds!

The link is on my profile.

  • They remade Psycho and it didn't stay in the theatres very long! I have no doubt that this won't either! I'll protest in the only logical way that The Suits will understand: by keeping my movie money in my wallet!! I hope that others will follow suit!

  • why do you not want the remake?

  • Because The Birds is a classic. I think it's wrong to remake classics. 'If it aint broken, dont fix it'. No upgraded technology will ever replace the genius of Hitchcock. And besides, if they do remake The Birds, most young people will not even know it's a remake, cause they probably never heard of Hitchcock. And if they know it's a remake, they will probably despise the original, because it 'had no technology'. Hitchcock's work shouldn't be touched.

  • oh fuck.

  • After you.

  • who loves babies

  • Hitchcock and Kubrick... masters of visual storytelling

  • That was great! He made so many great movies.

  • I love all his works. Even the silent movies he made. Very pioneering and very genius.

  • 1:18

    yougotit

  • of all the directors of all the times and places .. i respect this guy the most !!

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • Hitchcook isa god among men

  • I'd like to taste this mans pasta

  • i don't know what that means but...if its a good non gay thing (nothing agens gays) i agree

  • hitchCOOK

    :P

  • your an idiot

  • I enjoy them too

  • OMG that last second where the interviewer says, "or you for it, as it were." Hitchcock has this smug look on his face, like he's thinking, "damn right."

  • Ironically, this is another illustration of what Hitch is describing here. This interview was shot so that the interviewer's (Fletcher Markle, amazing name!) questions were filmed AFTER the actual interview with Hitch and then edited together so that it looks like they are in the same room talking to each other. In this case, Hitch's "smug look" is the result of pairing that particular image with Markle's remark causing you to interpret the look on his face as a reaction to the comment!

  • @hippoeki Yea I noticed that. Hitchcock is amazing.

  • @Jedisunscreen LMFAO

  • Hitchcock loves babies, more like.

  • He's no longer a dirty old man... who loves babies.

  • Aw man, that's awesome!

  • He really likes that example. I just watched another interview where he said the exact same thing. :)

  • God Bless Alfred Hitchcock!

  • thats hilarious!

  • the girl in the bikini has sexy feet! yum :d

  • Dirty old man? That's a stretch. He may be thinking, "Hmmm, that's odd, a woman in a bathing suit, in the middle of the day with no water or pool around".

  • Why is that odd? It's called sunbathing. And why include "in the middle of the day"? Would it be less odd if she were wearing her bikini in the middle of the night?

  • ProvPics: my post was ONE possibility - read for comprehension please.

  • Shall we post all possibilities of what he could be thinking then? He may be thinking "I like that tree. Did I leave the iron on? Soup is good!" It's about context. There is nothing odd about "a woman in a bathing suit, in the middle of the day with no water or pool around" Hitch was a dirty old man and loved to talk about it.

  • EXCELLENT! I recreated this.

  • "he's no longer the benign gentleman...who loves babies"

    hahaha

  • Couldn't ask for a better way to explain it to people : an exemple by Hitchcock himself, with the usual blonde girl. Great !

  • Dirty old man doesn't love babies.

So he's a good dirty old man?

  • funny :)

  • Hehe
