  • what knife do you use? :)

  • @isabelleme926

Hi. It is a Henckels Santoku knife.

  • Nice dice. I just watched some other video where the geezer cut individual strips! It took him about 5 minutes to do one potato. Speed is what we need.

  • @peaps

    Ha ha! Thanks!

  • This is awesome, every time I tried this in the past all I could manage was perfect spheres, Maybe my Samurai sword was blunt?

  • This guy is the truth. Good thing i subcribe to him back in 08 lol

  • @smallc28 Thanks! :) Jason

  • I can do it even without making it square.

  • i think it's not good for restaurants to makin it fast.

    but good for home

  • do you think this method would would if im trying to get rid of a body?

  • @joeratti

Only if you are getting rid of the body of Mr. Potato Head....

  • for student lesson, that was so wrong....

my chef will not accept potato dice like that in our presentation menu...

    that not perfect.....

    still hate the skin..

  • Nice one mate. I just diced the living s*** out of 3 potatoes.

  • @newsense87 Haha! Awesome!

  • okay, i hate to be finicky, but you have the technique right, BUT... you're execution is a little... ehhh... for example, at 0:29, the potato gets shifted, which would lead to uneven cuts. if you want to avoid shifting (with starchy veg) just press it together. the starchiness acts sticky, and keeps it together better. just saying.

  • @c2thedub14

Thanks for your input. No worries!

  • don't blame the knife :)

  • Key here is the sharp knife. It's really hard to do this if your blade is getting dull.

  • @leifey

    Good point leifey!

  • leifey,

Regardless of the knife, the key really is to dice the potato in very consistent size pieces.

    The more consistent, the better.

This ensure the cooking will be even on all pieces. It is statistics applied to cooking.

  • i've... wasted... so much time..... i could have just done this.... so simple.... *WHY!?!?*

drama aside, i srsly waste too much time on potatoes.... this should help a lot (i cook every meal except my traditional eat out day, on saturday)

    Thank you! :)

umm, side note, i notice you are using the red potatoes, is this a preferred potato for you, or.....

  • @AndrewWienecke

or... Well it depends on what I am making that call for potatoes. I like to use red for potato salad, home fries, soups and other dishes. Using different potatoes also has to with the colors I like to see on the plate. Hope this helps.

  • So simple! I'm getting ready to make potato cheddar soup and this was exactly what I needed! Thanks so much!

  • You're welcome! Enjoy the soup!

  • I like how you flattened each of the edges of the potato. But what do you do with the edges cut off? Throw it away?

  • IGood question. I usually lay them flat side down and dice them up.

  • Thanks for making dicing so simple and I've been doing it the long way. Looking forward to viewing your other tips. Especially the ones where you dice onions, peppers and tomatoes. Are those available?

  • Thanks for commenting. I was actually working on a onion video today. It should be up in a day or so.

  • Thank You! I don't know why but I was struggling with such an easy task

  • Thanks for commenting! =]

I am glad that the video helped you out.

    Jason

  • Hi Jason, thanks for this really cool tip. I watched it with my 8 year old daughter and she was so inspired that she asked to try your trick. She did a fantastic job. You made it so easy. We were cutting potatoes all weekend because she was so jazzed (LOL!). I can't wait to try your recipes and include my little chef. Cheers!

  • So glad to hear you enjoyed the tip! It's so much fun and important to cook with your kids in the kitchen. It's becoming a lost art in these days of fast food and packaged meals. All the best to you and your daughter! Jason
