  • Comet Empire tactic #1. Always keep your ships close together even though there are trillions of cubic miles of available space. You never know when you have to crash into each other during battle.

  • I watched this at 8am. it was on again after school. I had this, Atari 2600 and Force Five. Great times.

  • If I'm right, deep space is much colder than Saturn's Ice Wing!

  • still amazing to me....the argo and the starforce...still overlooked after all the battles ...so what if they took out the andromeda...the starforce was much better

  • Torrented, internet. Still pretty awesome.

  • ahhh, palmetto florida, 1984, every morning before school was battle of the planets and tranzor z (gotchaman and mezinger respectively) and every afternoon starblazers (yamato of course) and then robotech (macross) was added. ya know, tv today just cant compare, sorry but it's true. thankfully we have youtube and the net to buy such gems. oh yes, we had it good.

  • An otherwise great sequence is spoiled utterly at the end when the enemy general declares, "If only I hadn't forgotten..." Really? You forgot?

The enemy general in fact declares himself to be a hopelessly incompetent moron.

I hope that was a butchery of the translation and something else was really stated.

  • @TheOtherSteel lmao!

  • tv38 in RI. and bet your ass!:)

  • I used to watch this show every morning, 8 am, channel 47 in Toronto, in 1984-85. Still the best ever!

  • School Dismissal: 3:00 pm

Star Blazers on Ch. 29: 3:30 pm

    Distance to home: 1 mile

    HOW. FAST. CAN. YOU. RUN????

  • @hoos3014 A fan from PHilly??? YAY!

  • @joemjackson I'M FROM PHILLY!!

  • @UltraGokin

Oye, I'm 21 and I used to watch this show all the time! Don't be so quick to judge all of the new generation.

  • 1:18 ....anyone else notice how his mouth seems to grow another one XD

  • Ha! I use to watch Force Five too! Tuesday's episodes were the best. I use to run around the house pretending eject hatchets from my shoulders! "DOUBLE HATCHET BOOMER-RANG!"

  • gotta wonder if it was the gravity as well as the cold that made the magna flame gun do what it did??

  • Comment removed

  • @DartsRme312 I don't know about cold and gravity, but if you roll with the premise that the rings are ice, it was probably the flashing of the ice to vapor that whacked their guns. Ice crystals vaporizing in the barrel of that big gun would definitely be bad.

  • Yeah, you dumb bad Comet Empire commander with a stupid voice, you shouldn't have forgotten about the deadly, DEADLY coldness of Saturn's ice rings - it's obvious that since they're made of ice, they must be much colder than... err... outer space. Uh. Right. Wait, what?!

  • How come everyone sounds like they're either Irish, total flamers,or from the east coast?

  • @clntravis Well it was dubbed in NY

  • We all remember how it went:

RUN HOME FROM SCHOOL AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!!!

    HURRY UP WITH THE CHORES!!!!

    HURRY UP WITH THE HOMEWORK!!!!!

GUARD THE TV AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!

BECAUSE STAR BLAZERS IS ON IN FIVE MINUTES!!!

  • WGN Ch.9 in Chicago played this at 6am during the week. I got up early to watch it, then get ready for school.

  • Why does the Comet Empire Commander sound like such a mincing queen?

  • the only other space battle i seen this cool

was the Wizard fleet battle in Night Wizard

having giant sniper guns was cool

  • TY for the full english version!:)

  • There are even kamikaze pilots... cool

  • An impressive feet here is that they managed to get a space battle which shows off some major long range combat and keep it visually interesting. In Galactica, Star Wars or Star Trek, armadas of spacecraft have to get within less than five clicks before exchanging fire (sometimes bullshiting us by saying that a craft maybe ten hull lengths away that is clearly ten thousand kilometers to starbord)

  • One of the best cartoons ever!!!!!

  • Hasn't been a capital ship battle that cool until Babylon 5 came around.

  • open fire

  • lol

  • I remember the old days when the 'enemy' was either technologically superior to you, or vastly outnumbered you, or both. Japan viewed the USA that way, USA and USSR both viewed Germany that way, and NATO and USSR viewed eachother that way. Your generation misses not having anyone around powerful enough to shoot at and be worth worrying about happens next if you miss.

  • Channel 56, Boston Mass. The greatest Cartoon ever!

  • I thought it was channel 25? HAHA

  • It was CH. 25. 2 Doobies and a couple of cans of Pepsi = after school special.

  • It was actually WSBK 38 very briefly, then WXNE 25 (before it was the local Fox affiliate) took it over.

  • @aaaaaa4a Nope, Fox 25. And then after that Force Five.

  • To this day, there still has never been better.

  • I think I had to sprint 3 mega-meters after school to catch Starblazers on Ch. 29 in Phila. Definitely my favorite cartoon.

  • @KNJ3.....LOL!! Same here!!!

  • @KNJ3 Yo!! you from philly too....channel 29 at 3:30...watched it every day....i'm 40 now...and i still watch as you can tell...what part of philly...back then of course..i was in kensington!

  • I think it was channel 48!

  • @KNJ3 I also ran home from school in Lancaster, PA to watch Starblazers on ch. 29 out of Philadelphia. We, were running at the same time to watch the same show 30 years ago. The internet is amazing - such a small world! I could barely get reception (days before cable).

  • @KNJ3 Me too! I'd run home from the bus stop and turn on Channel 29 in Phila!

  • GET"R"DONE!

    Star Blazers & Speed Racer!

    Best Cartoons in Japanese Animation!

    What Passes For Cartoons Now-a-Days,

    Just Ain't Right!

  • you damn right!!!

this cartoon puts you on the edge of your seat cartoons now full of fluff and fliff

hey you ever seen ROBOTECH if not I highly recommend you watch it!!!

  • Yep! I Think It Was Before Transformere!'Have a Good One!

  • a longtime befor

  • That It Was!

    Have a Good One!

  • Oh, hell yeah! Those two shows! Exactly! They were the best! Everything else since then is crap }:^(

  • You Ain't Lieing!

    Have a Good One!

  • Turkey shoot!!

  • Perhaps today is a good day to die!

  • 6:02 pwned.

  • and EPIC FAIL!

  • why the fuck did they all have to die?????

  • Whernt very inventive with the ships in this were they? The space ships seems like boats and the fighters look like fighter jets, oh well, i cant complain this is the first ive even heard of it! dont mind me though!

  • Star Blazers had a retro look with a lot of WWII era stylings.

  • i usta watch this when i was in diapers i never knew what the fuck they was saying just enjoyed the action

  • i what to blow shot up like spaceships any thing tat gte in my way rfucking ya

  • I have a shirt of the black tigers made last month. lol gold/yellow arrow on black looks cool, even though it might be perceived as 'geeky' , but..who givezafug =D

  • owned ;0)

  • Best animated series ever, bar none!!!!

  • Damm RIGHT

  • LOL! They lost because their popeye captain never ate his spinach!

  • Fuck yeah, Saturn's ice rings are the bomb. General Bleak is in deep shit.

  • That's gonna hurt in the morning.

  • Why do all the other ships blow up so easily? and the Argo can take 10 to 20 hits show damage but never blow up?? Great series but have some consistancy. Could some of the Commet Empire ships take some damage and fly away damaged instead of completely blowing up after 1 hit? what are they filed with hydrogen?

  • Gen. Bleak's flagship didn't blow up right away, it took 2 direct hits before exploding from the main guns of Gideon's entire fleet.

  • Great point.

  • lol i know. i always joked with my brother about that when we watched it. it seemed like one hit and they blew, while the starforce took 3 or more hits with the reflex gun and dove into an acid ocean and still survived! perhaps they were using the force?!? oy.

  • Nolt1 FYI Absolute zero is -273C there is no lower temp than this as u should know

  • pretty warm day in space huh?

  • I used to watch this show every morning before going to school to put me in a good mood. One of the few times in the series earth forces got the upper hand.

  • awesome show, awesome battle. I watched this all of the time when i was a kid. It's still one of my favorites. I'd say though that Saturn's Ice Ring was much colder than that. Probably more like 1000 below zero or more.

  • Best cartoon ever

  • Gen. Bleak...uh...I don't want my account killed. Let's just say that he is a familiar moron.

  • When watching the Japanese version Bleak doesn't make any mention of what caused the blowback. Apparently the translators felt an explanation was needed but hadn't a clue about outer space. Reminds me of the time they had Venture saying that Mars was 'thousands of light-years' from Earth in series 1. :(

  • Commenter afnaste is correct. The line about "Commander, we're at the core of the ice ring, the temperature is 100 degrees below zero" gets rendered in the subtitles of "Space Battleship Yamato" as "Commander, we'll soon reach the Cassini Gap." Quite a difference.

Also, "Magna Flame Gun" gets translated as "burst energy direct transport cannon" in SBY, which while more wordy is really a much better translation, if you watch how it works...

  • It's actually using Lysis' SMITE tech from the first season. Note the energy pulses on either side of the cannon itself.

It fires into a SMITE field which spacewarps the blast.

  • Always good to watch this.

  • aewseome

  • asshole got fucking own at the end

  • General Bleak fucked up.................

  • Well when I was 8 years old my imagination didn't care whether the facts stood up to scientific fact. What a great show this was.

  • Hahaha, 100 below zero. What absolute scientific failure. Below what? Celsius? Space is around -251 Celsius, and over -400 F. 100 Below Kelvin? That's just friggin insane. That's why they call this Science FICTION.

  • At 100 below zero, Saturn's ice ring wasn't so much colder than space than it was a giant case of explosive sublimation just waiting to happen.

'Hardly the first time a commander has overlooked environmental factors in the heat of battle.

There's a certain degree of elegance in having some alien invader himself create the miraculous wind that saved the Japanese warriors.

  • Yeah, it might be a good thing to remember how your weapons work, and when and where they don't. (Ugh, did they really write that as the turning point of the battle??) and don't forget, at 100 deg. below zero, Saturn's ice ring is colder than dep space. Wow, who would have thought??

  • That might be a horrible mistranslation, as is common when anime is dubbed into English. Subtitling is much more accurate.

  • fucking owned asshole ;0)

  • Where is the enemy's escape pod!? O_o
