I like both countries - have lived in both countries - have friends and family in both countries - but I must say that living in the USA makes me happier than living in Britain. Better weather, cleaner streets, better organic food, better micro brewed beer, diversity of social groups, and better health care (sorry NHS - you were great once but not now). Some would argue that the fresh troops were the "surge" that was needed but the borders were static for 3 years and didn't change much after American involvement. As for WWII, the US main involvement was non-military, providing goods and materiel for others' war efforts, except for Japan of course. German domination of Europe would have been obliterated by the Russians.

America did not save Britians arse. America's direct involvement was the extra push needed to invade and defeat Germany. I'm English and I've studied history a fair amount and I think neither Britain or the U.S were needed to defeat Germany; Russia was pissed off and they steam-rolled straight into Germany with very little resistance. The Germans had run out of resources and manpower, the Russians on the other hand had endless manpower. The British and Americans combined lost just over 1 million men in WW2, Russia alone lost 29 million. Russia won WW2.

I like both countries - have lived in both countries - have friends and family in both countries - but I must say that living in the USA makes me happier than living in Britain. Better weather, cleaner streets, better organic food, better micro brewed beer, diversity of social groups, and better health care (sorry NHS - you were great once but not now). Britain just seems to be a bit grim at the moment.

Some would argue that the fresh troops were the "surge" that was needed but the borders were static for 3 years and didn't change much after American involvement. As for WWII, the US main involvement was non-military, providing goods and materiel for others' war efforts, except for Japan of course. German domination of Europe would have been obliterated by the Russians.

America did not save Britians arse. America's direct involvement was the extra push needed to invade and defeat Germany. We were perfectly happy on our little island, whilst also fighting across the world at the same time. It is fact however that equipment from the US was needed for allied success, but take away Britain and Russia and the American's would have had to stay on the other side of the sea. All top historians will tell you that all 3 great powers were needed. (Sorry France, not you).

@Pringles352 I don't think all top powers would say that. I'm English and I've studied history a fair amount and I think neither Britain or the U.S were needed to defeat Germany; Russia was pissed off and they steam-rolled straight into Germany with very little resistance. The Germans had run out of resources and manpower, the Russians on the other hand had endless manpower. The British and Americans combined lost just over 1 million men in WW2, Russia alone lost 29 million. Russia won WW2.

@OccasionallyEpic and how was russia able to do that? Because the US supplied them with countless amounts of weapons and resources throughout the entire war. And the Germans ran out of resources due to fighting troops from the British Empire and other allies all over Europe. You basically just contradicted yourself in every way.

I don't get it. You say "stop calling me British", but then say "I am British". I always thought it to be polite and complimentary to use British because it is proper; because you are from Great Britain. When uneducated North Americans talk about the people of Great Britain they refer to them all as English. I don't use British as an insult at all. That's the only thing I don't agree with. Don't be a hypocrite and then say you are British; because that's exactly what you are.

Actually, in WWII, England was losing before we came in. If it were not for the millions of dollars in weapons and support, you would have lost to the blitzkreig. And to all the people saying every or most Americans are of British descent, that's not true. My town, my state, and even myself is mainly German.
