  • great video !! i am waiting for my parts from midway to start my assembly. But i noticed you sanded the actual trigger on the gun i never realized how the little things like that can assist in the feel and function of the gun.

  • 8:13 a gunsmith should know not to do this on a 1911

  • Nice job you need to do mine.

  • Comment removed

  • do any of you guys know what powers the slide stop upwards when the last cartridge is fired?

  • Very nice video , nice gun ....but I have better :)) Just joking .....good job .

  • man guns are so complicated to maintain.

  • Cool vid, but I'd just buy an new gun rather to go threw all that !!! Lol

  • Cool video. Its amazing how many parts are on the gun when you have them all laid out like that.

Can you provide some detail on the trigger guard? I have never seen that before and it looks like it goes over the existing guard. Is it aesthetic only or does it have a function. Thanks!

  • @teddycanary i'd also like info on that guard

  • fantastic 1911!

  • Im 12 and I shot my 1st gun ever and it was a 1911. It packs a hell of a punch!

  • Wilson makes great components. You will be happy with their workmanship and fit.

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • great job awesome gun.what do think abt wilson combat parts i just ordered abt 350 worth of parts fom them for my springer a-1.just abt everything except frame and slide they seem to have a great rep.

  • Beautiful work. This guy really understands his craft.

  • does anyone know a good site to buy parts for a colt 1911? like a legit site cuz i just bought a colt 1911 combat elite gov model and im looking to put a lil bit of money into it for the long run....thankz!

  • check out midwayusa or brownells

  • do you sell refurbished 1911s?

  • I am not in the biz but tnx for asking.

  • Very good video. I would like to see your opinion on each component and thoughts about aftermarket parts. I lost my Kimber Grand Raptor II and now want to build a 1911 ground up. I don't mind if it takes me a year. I just want to do it right. I do have gunsmithing skills and have been tinkering on paper with some new design ideas.

  • I could use your expertise- in my new Fire arm manufacturing business- if your interested - even as a consultant- Thanks please E-Mail me: Tony tonytiger2656@live.com

  • Can You build one for me I will seriously pay you . It was a masterpiece.

  • Can you make one for me I will pay you i was beautiful

  • where do you go to become a certified gunsmith?

  • wher axactly do you go to become a certified gunsmith

  • Take a gunsmith class with americangunsmithinginstitute, or Yavapai college, get a certificate. Then if you want to get into the biz, go to the ATF and file for a gunsmith FFL.

  • @RGsedona thanks alot appreciate it

  • @RedneckRosso A full time gunsmithing academy is your best bet, actual hands on experience from true experts. Try the Pennsylvania Gunsmith School, its a 16 month program, very intense, all hands on. There is no gunsmithing the movie, its not something you can just read and suddenly understand, you need a skill base in everything from using a file to advanced physics.

  • Great video! You're like the surgeon general of pistols.

  • i think i just orgasmed!

  • masterpiece!!! nice one mate...show us some more...

  • I had to comment a second time because this video is so great!

I have not seen any new videos lately from you......

Can you make one of that 1911 in action?

    That would be sweet!

How much did the gun parts run you, minus the tools of course.

  • Great video, learned something thanks

  • wow that is one sweet lookin 1911

  • this is nice to know thanks

  • Nice work!

    Thanks for doing this video.

    I want to learn more.

  • Very Nice Indeed...

  • the firing pin got stuck forward. did this happen when you were shooting?and if you did, did you ever get a full auto situation because of continued slam firing?

  • That is a good observation and question.

It never did. I did not try to figure out why not but that was my concern when it happened, that it would go full auto.

But when you would look at it the pin was hanging a quarter of an inch into the chamber jammed as tight as it could be in the hole.

I have shot full auto 1911's before. Legal ones. They are fun and a handfull.

    Rgds,

    RG

  • Very well done, thanks for sharing.

  • awesome build mate

  • Sir I appreciate the time that it took to make this video.

With that said I must say the blue control parts looked better than polished stainless.

  • This is a great video for those looking to potentially build a 1911. However, I wish you went into a little detail as to why you wanted certain things the way you wanted them. For instance, where you say you aren't pleased with the sear engagement.

Some of us don't know as much about the internals and are trying to learn so it would help if you stated why. I don't know if you want to give out that info, or take the time doing so, but I would appreciate it. Thanks either way, take care!

  • cool vid from start to finish about how long would the whole build take

  • I would say about four hours total

    Rgds,

    RG

  • @RGsedona i thought it would take like 4 days lol

  • I DON'T KNOW IF U WHERE AT WORK OR IF SOME OF THE EQUIP WAS AT HOME BUT I LIKED THE CONTRAST OF THE HIGH POLISH GOOD WORK. I JUST THOUGHT THE ADD ON 90 DEGREE TRIGGER GUARD LOOKED OUT OF PLACE WITH THE REST OF THE EXCELLENT WORK. PROBABLY LOOKS BETTER IN PERSON. YOU SEEM TO KNOW YOUR STUFF.

  • Home base

  • @sgt79lachance Please TURN OFF CapsLock xD... joke ;P

  • i would love to see a little more indepth on the slide to frame fitting and the trigger adjustment

  • Great video, I am drooling over your tools and oven.

I hate to give plugs for companies and I heard you use the term Brownells.

This company as you know is great and they sell everything to build a pistol from the ground up. I use them for all my repairs.

    Wow great build.

  • @ImRamro ,Thanks for the comments.Nice shooting by the way. The salt tank is awesome!

We share a passion for Glocks. Have done some nice Glock build ups. My bud wrote the Glock book, also business partners.Rgds, RGaz

  • home base

  • man i don't what to say your bad ass and ur gun you fixed it up sick black and chrome very good combo, i'm doing major ugrade to my 1911 but don't know that much i also polished a couple parts as well but i hate to say it you put me to shame keep up the good work. and it you like check out my gun and post a comment on what i can improve on

  • Cool video :) I'm looking to be a gunsmith or take a course then aprentiship or something :) - but I like those colt 45's and 1911's but without the silencer screw end - still if and probably when I get to make one with some skill lol :) then I'll be happy with myself and a 45/1911 xD

  • Great video! I enjoyed it very much. I'm actually taking a certified gunsmith course. Then applying for my ffl. I really want to specialize in custom 1911's.

  • Very nice build - thanks for sharing on some of the methods involved :)

  • Nice gun. very good job. at the end you slammed the slide home with no rounds in it, can that damage your gun?

  • great video you sure know your 1911 i own an essex frame built up 1911 and it was my fist love

  • @ramoned1978 Hey dude: I as well have an essex stainless frame with the mil issue 1911 slide and I as well loved it. I would like to see this video again with a lot more detail like bake temps on the paint bake, details on the angle's of the ejector and sear mod. Just more detail in general. Not bad though.

  • Beautiful finished product. Awesome work, man. 5 stars.

  • Il est tres beau!!!

    vive le 45 1911!!!

  • I want him to build me one

  • Beautiful!

  • 45 all the way, STOPPING POWER! sorry, had to say it.

  • What's with the stick-on trigger guard? Just to get more chrome on the ol pistoli? Or trying to make it look more STIesqe?

  • Better grip

  • RG I am way jealous of your life! Stil gonna stop by and see you someday! Your old shootin' buddy from Santa Clara

  • I aprove and endorse this video. XD

  • i would have liked to see more in depth. maybe you couldve broke the vid up into multiple vids. very interesting though.

  • that finished product is just sexy. I'm a big stainless fan but that thing is bad.

  • man you should put up the vid of it at the range, Also if possable could you put up a jpeg of this gun. Im going to try this Im going threw a gun smith class

  • Thanks for the video. I wanted to know how to replace the plunger tube. I have 3 different full size 1911's and one Colt commander now I know how to do most of my work. If you have a video on how to custom install a S&A beavertail to a Full Size Govt model i would appreciate seeing that as well. 5/5 rating

  • sounds like a dyno tune in the background

  • Probably had the exhaust fan running in the background. The thing is pretty massive.

  • how much do a 1911 cost to day, do they produse these guns much?

  • @Zentrix97 it can depend. usually 1,200.00 to around 2,000.00 for the brand new. But you can always checked out used ones. They are beautiful and hell its a smithy.

  • do they produse the Kimber Warrior or do you hsve to customize it, like this guy does?

  • @Zentrix97 taurus makes a decent one for around 6

  • 4/5 for the gun build, a rail job will be in order

the rest of the gun and your techniques are a 5/5

  • Excellent job!

How did you measure/adjust to proper dimensions & fit after the parkerizing/teflon coating?

  • The frame to slide fit is done in the white.

The parkerizing wears off the rails and slide very quickly.

    Don't paint the rails

  • Thanks!

    Awsome job!

That's one helluva gunsmith! Way to go!

  • Good grief.

    What we have here...

.. is a unique Colt .45 ACP build/one-off, which i imagine would fetch at least $3,500 USD.

This is one sunuvab*tch Colt ACP. Makes the best Kimber look like a squirt gun.

  • wow..... as a 1911 fan I got to give you respect.....you made a beautiful pistol.

  • my dad had an essex kit gun.....I remember it back in the day was pretty but reliability was......well complete shit

  • Having just bought my first 1911 and second overall handgun, if I was to die with half the knowledge you have about 1911's I'd die a happy man. GREAT work brother, Stay safe.

  • can i ask what model

  • very very nice. ive used 1911s and they are one of my favorite handguns for combat style shooting. i have a custom 1911. i ordered all the parts separate and had it assembled, custom engraved and gunsmithed to be a master piece of combat weaponry. i have to say your 1911 is really one of a kind. truely magnificent. id like to see it fired. and did u say you had the hammer & sear set to 4 clicks? if so thats pretty neat i must say. congrats on your deadly work of art!

  • very nice piece of craftsmanship....hoping to purchase my first 1911 soon

  • Let me say that is a great looking pistol. Looking forward to doing one myself .Again real nice job !

  • Good video, really know your stuff about guns. Found it really interesting

  • what guns is the easiest to build i wana make one from ground up.also where can i find something to tell me all the parts i need and how to make it please help.

  • Subscribe to Shotgun News. They do ground up build ups.

    Rgds,RGaz

  • fantastic video RG, love to see someone that knows what they are doing, hats off to you.

  • can you teach me that ? i want to be a gunsmith too but i don't know how can i achieve it... when i think of that it makes me sad... really....

  • Check out american gunsmithing institute. You can start taking classes through them to become a gunsmith. Or better yet take the classes at Yavapai college.

    Rgds,RGaz

  • WELL done A+

  • Well done sir!

  • You did a terrific job.

  • Yes, I found it interesting.

  • Without knowing your level of expertise it is difficult to say where to begin.

Yavapai college has one of the best programs in the world. Shasta may still have a program. American Gunsmith online has lots of material.

Join the on line forums, m1911org, Saiga 12, etc. Read the gunsmith info.

Get the Brownell & Midway USA catalogs for parts, tools and accessories.

If you are serious I'd check out Yavapai.

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • i really want to learn how to do all of that and maybe make some money doing it. Im from IL, how do i get to that level of gunsmithing?

  • Found it interesting need more info on the backround?

  • love the .45 but isn't the barrel to long for concelment?

  • Take the compensator off if you want to carry it. I don't carry a full size 1911 45.

    I carry concealed wither a S&W Chiefs Special 45 or a Glock 27, 40 with a 13 rd mag.

    Rgds.

    RGaz

  • thanks man, just to let you know in my country, the philippines. 1911 .45 pistol is the popular choice for concealed weapon, i myself carry it a lot be on my waist or in my bag..

guess people here just use love 1911 .45, but not all love it thou..

  • That is great! The 1911 is a great carry gun.

I need something a little more discreet / concealable. If I could I would carry the 1911 too! The 1911 is my fav!

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • ya, me too its my fav. i've tried glock 27 and beretta but i dont feel the kick everytime im firing it, maybe its bec. of its caliber, i prefer big caliber just like my colt .45.

hey man thanks for appreciating my comment to you, nice workmanship on your .45, love the design

  • you can buy shorter compact versions

  • Please somebody tell me in USA you can own any kind of weapons? legally? and also any number of them, i mean more than two guns?. thank you for your response!

  • Laws in the US vary from state to state (even some cities/counties have their own restrictions). As far as I know, it is legal for a citizen to own pretty much anything up to machine guns and grenade launchers. I've even seen vids of people shooting artillery and cannons.

I'm unaware of any restrictions on the number of firearms someone can own.

  • Than you for that professional answer!

  • You're welcome. Keep in mind that not all states allow machine guns, and not all states allow concealed carry.

  • It will vary from state 2 state. But for the most part u can own long guns and pistols. All long guns must be semi-automatic. No regular person can own full auto rifles and such. But U can get permits for automatic guns if you are a dealer or a collector. It all comes down to where U live. I live in a state with NO conceal carry. Other states allow Conceal Carry. Some states u dont even need a permit 2 own firearms. Its wacky to say the least. But its a right given by our constitution.

  • I've been discovered!

  • u sound like the dude from national treasur

  • I like the finished firearm. Really amazing. Good job.

  • sweet freaking ***** that gun is the greatest thing Ive seen! It looks not even full sized, and I love that extended barrel look, for a sleek and cool gun. DAMN!

  • that is one bas ass looking 1911. im wanting one so bad. i want it stainless steel with a custom wood grip. ! sweet gun tho!!

  • Were not worthy, were not worthy. Your shop is amazing. Not to mention the custom job you did on the 1911. How did you convince the wife to let you buy all those toys. I mean tools. Great vid.

  • It is a standard length barrel. You are looking at a removable compensator that makes it look long. You can take it off and use a std barrel bushing.

    Rgds,

    RG

  • hmm...

I do want a 'full sized' 1911, would you be able to put a barrel extension on that? Or would it just look really bulky in your opinion. Because, It looks completely dazzling on this compact like 1911. Love the work you did with it, but I've always been on the full or standard sized 1911. :D

  • This is a full size std 1911,(5"bbl) not a compact or officers model with a 3.5" bbl.

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • ... thats really full size? wow, im absolutely amazed then, I want a small extension coming out of the barrel of my colt :D

  • Cool. But what kind of a barrel is that? It looks long.

  • amazing, simply amazing

  • I do this all the time and this guy is pretty good.I use mostly Old National Match parts my dad left me.

  • That was just beautiful! I'd love to completely build a 1911 with all new parts! That makes a really nice hobby!

  • It's more then a hobby for this guy, he's made a career out of it. I know, im jealous too.

  • Yeah, Im super jealous! I mean c'mon! I wish I could make a career with my best interests of all! Firearms are truly my best profession for my age! Haha!

  • Call me insane, but i think im gunna try to make a career out of it, might have to move down to the states though (Im Canadian, eh).

  • Now that is a very, very sexy gun! This video's actually given me more inspiration and i think i might seek a career as a gunsmith.

  • Dude you rock! How did you learn all that. I just bought a Springfild 1911 trophy. I'm very new but learning that i have entered into a very addicting hobby that i think i will enjoy for the rest of my life. Cusomizing a gun is so fun. Thx for sharing your knowledge.

  • That would be a worthy undertaking!

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • ine been thinking about building my own 1911 some thing like a meusoc clone

  • ill be buying my first pistol later this year, most likely a 1911. im curious about the plunger tube though, iv read a few articles describing an issue with it coming loose or coming off. could you describe for me where exactly this is? or point it out in this video if its in here. how i could check it on a used pistol, keeping in mind im a complete amature at this point. id rather not get hustled at the gun shop from being so obviously new to pistols. thx for any tips you can provide!

  • The plunger tube is on the left side of the frame at the top of the hand grip. Take a look at the video from time 6:10 to 6:50. I go through the process of installing and show the staking tool. It looks like a pair of vice grips. If they were installed without chamfering the inside of the frame they will get loose over time.Hope that helps.

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • Great! Left out to much helpful info though!

  • And what's with the massive trigger guard.

  • Bolt on squared of trigger guard with checkered front for more grip and control.

  • What you could also do is shave the bottom of the trigger guard to get a higher grip. I think STI has a gun like that called the trojan hehehe.

  • Couldn't he have just widened the hole for the firing pin?

  • Re-drilled the hole a few times. It just closes up as the slide has lost it's hardness. Yes you could re harden the slide but it is easier to just replace it.

  • OK I see.

  • that gun is extremely sexy......*drools*

  • ya i get it now srew off its not funny any more

  • freakin sweet gun man that is pimp man just freakin pimp i love it might do that to mine when i get it

  • Man, I love it man, just pimp man, yes man, man, it's great- this gun man, love it man. good vid man.

    MANNNN!!

    lol xD

  • lol fuck you buddy lol

  • very good video you seem to know your stuff 5star*****

  • very nice vid. you are a very good gunsmith. top marks. god i love that gun

  • VERY sexy gun, great job.

  • I'd love to see how well that gun shoots.

BTW, how are you at lowering and flaring ejector ports?

  • I have a Ballester-Molinas can you bild it

  • i had a ballester-molinas a few years back, you can build up some parts most of them dont fit its a little bit different than the standard 1911 so if you buy a rebuild kit you will have alot of parts left over,i would buy a more modern 1911,good luck.

  • its a thing of beauty great job!!!

  • Wow, very detailed build.

    Thanks for the video.

    Have fun on the Range!

  • TNX for the feedback!

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • hope we cn see that gun shoots..

  • My god, that is a BEAUTIFUL rebuild, wonderful video of the process.

  • Love the video !!

Just a few questions, how much did all the parts cost for this project ??

Also, how much time did you put into this build up ?? Thanks !!

  • Looks like a long process but fun also.Great job

  • nice job man 5 stars

  • awesome video. nice 1911

  • How do you go about becoming a certified gunsmith?

  • Drilled it a number of times. Kept closing up. Metal lost hardness.

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • Just wondering.. Could the slide be redrilled to fix the sticking firing pin? Or would it just keep wallering out after fixing it? Thanks

  • Good luck on your quest for your first 45.

    I never met a 45 I didn't like!

I believe that I bought the frame that I used in the video as well as the original slide from Sarco back in 83 or so.

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • thats a awsome colt u got there!, but no affense but i like the original ww2 style better for some reason. and im workin on savin my alowense up(im 13)and have my dad get me a sarco inc. 1911 and there only about $350 so that will be exiting. please respond.

  • Handsome 1911 Pistol....

  • Thanks!

It is a standard frame, slide & barrel.

The compensator replaces the standard barrel bushing. It is removable and you can still use the standard barrel bushing for standard length.

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • I think this is a great video...

    and...

Reading the previous comments regarding the barrel, I was curious if perhaps it were a government sized barrel...placed on a defender frame? I can't see why it would protrude as much...

Anyways, it looks nice. You did a fantastic job.

  • The barrel is standard length.

The compensator is for target shooting only.

It pops right off in two seconds.

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • the barrel extends way too farrrr

  • Nice vid.. Would of liked a little more detail and instructions (parts installs, actual polishing, etc.) but beggers cant be choosers I guess..

  • i agree, I would love to see more specific installs and fitting of the various parts.

  • I like it, however it has that odd extra long barrel so it turns me off to see that.

  • The barrel is standard length. The compensator is for target shooting only. It comes right off.

    Rgds,

    RGaz

  • lovin this video!! leave me a comment

    comment me back JK

  • good job man. awesome video
