It depends on the bird. Some parrots learn at 4-6 months, some at 1-2 years and some just wont talk at all. It all depends on the personality of the bird. you also have to think about the birds ability to mimic. Macaws have a limited ability, greys are the best mimics. Its alot harder with budgies.
First it needs to be hand tamed. Take it out of it cage to a place where there are no distractions. Repeats words to it for about 10 mins twice a day. Eventually it will pick things up.
Ahh You two are the best of friends.:) Looks like alot of fun. I am seriously thinking of getting a budgie. I have never had a bird before. Any advice or tips at all would really be apreciated.
A budgie is a very nice starter bird. Easy to take care of, very low maintenance and does not require the attention and demand of a large parrot. Best advice, pick up bird books, read website, understand the personalities of the different species, find what species fits your lifestyle, and make sure you have the proper time to commit to your new pet.
Had her for 2 years. She is 7 years old. She is out with us when we are home. She is in her cage at night and sometimes during the day. Padlocked shut, because she knows how to work the latches.
Thanks :-) I wish I had some time to make more videos... She is rather a little comedian sometimes. :-) Right now she is next to me on her perch, sitting nicely. Probably waiting for her bedtime.
lol how cut that is !!!! i love the laugh at the end. SO funny how you make your voice high for her . I made my voice different to get mickey budgie to talk also ha ha ha the tricks we learn lol
happy to see the loving relationship between you and Rachel...and I believe there is another lady who relates well with Rachel...because Rachel seems to speak in a girlish voice! :) Its funny to hear rachel say "come here!" in a girlish voice, because my Baby says "go back!" in a baritone instead! what a direct opposite. hehe
Well in our "baby talk" to Rachel, we usually use high pithced voices. Rachel learned "come here" before we got her, we taught her "Hi Big Daddy", "Hi Big Bird", which she says not so high pithced. She has a big range though, she will say things she knows in different ways with accents in different areas. Its really cool to listen to her sometimes.
Sooooo cute!!!! :)

In Ithaca, New York. She loves going outside and totally hates cold weather and snow, just like her Daddy.

I had budgies first. I found a breeder and got babies. I then was able to successfully breed them and got two other babies.
