Sure, we've had some success with globalization and increased wealth, but in many areas, it's mainly gone to the rich. Trade agreements are the absolute worst part of it. We should only approve trade agreements with other developed nations like Canada, at least until we can enact certain standards in the other FTAs.
Free trade agreements between developed nations like the US and 3rd world or developing nations are a trap. We lose jobs, and they gain crappy low-paying jobs with poor standards and regulations and even some child labor. The corporate execs. get richer while millions lose their jobs and get poorer. Things don't get any better for the other nations either. It just makes things easier for the corporations. It's obvious why: the nations are too poor and powerless to demand their rights.
I love how free traders who support NAFTA admit that it's cost a lot of manufacturing jobs and devastated smaller communities, BUT then they say "oh, but we've created millions more jobs since then." So what?? Does that prove ANYTHING? Were these new manufacturing jobs? IT jobs? I'm pretty sure they were a diverse range of jobs, and NAFTA had absolutely nothing to do with the creation. For one thing, Mexico is too dirt poor to create those new jobs here, and Canada did NOT create them all.

Sure, we've had some success with globalization and increased wealth, but in many areas, it's mainly gone to the rich. Trade agreements are the absolute worst part of it. We should only approve trade agreements with other developed nations like Canada, at least until we can enact certain standards in the other FTAs.

Aside from NAFTA, one of my memories from those "glorious" Clinton years was big companies like IBM, BAXTER, The United States Post Office, GE, GM and more canning employees by the 10's of 1000's at a time and Manpower, Inc., the temp agency replacing all of the above as the #1 EMPLOYER IN THE U.S.A by the time Bill Clinton left in 2001. As a Canadian, I pray the Democrats get in so we can reopen the NAFTA since US has never honoured their NAFTA commitments (Americans are poor free-traders). Since Canada is the US largest trading partner and provides more energy (oil, gas, electricity) than any other country (including Saudi Arabia) Canada can sell it's oil to the Chinese at a higher price and under more favourable circumstances. Screw NAFTA, it only benefits the US and we will keep our massive energy reserves for ourselves

Well, here in Germany they talk about a minimum wage of 7.50 € (about 10 US-$) and in Norway it's like paradise. Well, 2$ sound like modern slavery to me. We have the problem that companies want only unpaid or badly paid "Praktikanten" like people who only give it a try for some months at the working place, but infact, they work hard.
