This part of the air cleaner is not serviceable by the homeowner. It clearly states this in the instructions. Any Service tech not capable of removing a couple door hinge pins should not have a job.
Take the door off the hinges......should gave been done right but I suspect it was the carpenter...if every job was a perfect installation why would the homeowner need you?
I used to work for a firm that sells and services Trane and I can say from experience that the Clean Effects doors are a bitch to open and close when the unit is installed "correctly." The 90% furnaces have a bad habit of getting "cold header cracks" that saddle the customer with $500 to $700 repair bills unless they buy the extended warranty. They've also had issues with the transition behind the inducer cracking and some of the DC inducers failing prematurely.
its an upflow. they didnt have much choice. remove the door from the hinge to remove filter. if they are to old to do it, have the ac tech do it when he performs the ac & heat checks. it that simple. you have no space on most upflows.
It is. It would need to be REMOVED to remove that center section of those cleaners. I sure am glad i don't do residential anymore. Those cleaners are more trouble than they are worth anyway. And so are the XL19i.s What a piece of junk and a sad excuse for variable speed at this day and age. Anything short of inverter technolodgy is not impressive these days. I now realize Trane isn't what it used to be. Ah, sorry. My rant got away from me.
Its not that bad especially when you have to have 4 manufactuer reccomended 4" clearance and most but not least The home owner should never clean the clean effects without have knowledge of electricity and how well it should be dried before reinserted oh and also call a tech as usual during you yearly maintenence I'll have that door off in 10 seconds.......You see no big deal guys!!!!
What's up hackfreehvac, Did you tell the homeowner they could call the ROC and have this reinstalled correctly? Improper access is a violation. God forbid they should have to build an offset plenum instead of having the customer remove their door every time they need to clean the cells! ~ MagicTouchAir
I don't even think this one needed an offest. I think if the front of the furnace was just 1/4" more to the left than the rear, causing a SLIGHT angle it would have cleared the door fine and still looked nomral. When I worked for these bozo's I had to keep my mouth shut to the customer and play stupid. Which was hard to do. I wish TRANE cared but the local Trane reps probably only care about their cut of these installs. I hope they are proud.
I have been telling my Trane rep that if they don't do something about the caliber of dealers they sell their products to they will eventually ruin the brand name and all the good dealers they have...including us!
After seeing that new Panasonic IQ Drive unit you're installing, I would not even bother with Trane, LOL! I love Inverter driven motors. Trane's dual recip XL19i is not very reliable. And it sucks some MAD POWER when it switches compressors under pressure!
That's what has to happen. Simple? Not really. It's kind of bullsh*t to do that twice a year when all they needed to do was move the air cleaner housing 1" to the left during initial install. Remember, they get $1,000+ for one of those air cleaners! They could at least make it servicable!
I would tell the manager. He didn;t give a shit about codes or making it easy for a tech. All he'd say is "quit your whining and djust do the job". Them sending us techs out for "Quality Control" checks was a facking joke!
Stupid builders, They expect to shove a furnace & water heater in closets, w/o thinking about SERVICING! The best is when they say to you that "the bi-fold doors come off."
The home was probably 15 years old or more. This was a system change out. And to clarify, the door wasn't too narrow. The Clean Effects just needed to be moved an inch to the left when it was installed. No quality Control! :(

@Nspect
Can't blame the carpenter here.
This is a system "change out".
Sp basically they sold the customer a $10,000 system including this fancy air cleaner and it can't even come out!
Oh, did I mention the home owner is elderly???
