  • oss! RIP sensei

  • I love watching Master Suzuki perform this Kata. It's an amazing kata to watch, and if performed in its full glory like the way Master Tatsuo does it, it is an incredible kata to watch.

  • i absolutly admire sensei tastuo suzuki, he is brilliant and i had the opporunity to meet him once! i am eturnaly grateful!

  • que véi todo torto é esse, parece o robocop com 70 anos... ate´meu avó faz melhor !!

  • ths kata performance had spirit. osu!

  • Very interesting to see the similarities between this kata and Shotokan's Empi. Say what you want about the technicalities of the kata, Suzuki Sensei is expressing elements far more important than a foot position an inch or two out of textbook position. Osu!

  • just before the last move there is now a pause but back then i didn't think there was one i ay be mistaken , not a bad kata have seen better myself

  • this was filmed in the early 90's when Sensei was in his mid-sixties. I have never seen anyone perform this Kata like Suzuki Sensei. The "crossing the leg" is called Kosa dachi and its to avoid stepping into your opponent's counterattack.

  • This man is incredible. I am not easily impressed by Kata, however this is what would be considered 'mastery' if there is such a thing.

Could someone tell me the purpose of crossing the rear leg when striking at 13 and 17 seconds?

  • I'm a 2nd degree black belt in wado-ryu, and I have pondered this for several years now. One idea is that he is moving his back leg out of the way of an attack from behind. Another is that pulling the back leg forward gives you a longer reach forward with that downward punch. Ultimately, I'm not sure, but the beauty of it is that it's up for interpretation. Suzuki was masterful in this vid, and I applaud him.

  • It's a transitional stance, which is why he's only in it for about a second. It allows for the hips to coil from the previous technique and explode into the next.

  • a lot of power, very nice i think the japanise called it kime

  • yes you are right

  • im just wondering. the kata looks like empi sho rather than wunsu

  • Empi is another name for similar kata to this. More commonly from such styles as shotokan.

  • i love it, it's so ...wonderful !!!

  • loved it i really do enjoy this kata

  • Excellent. Love the bounce after the jump, doesn't pause straight into next technique. Class! Why do some people/styles perform this with slow hands. Makes more sense quick. Love Wado Katas no unneccesary embellishments more practicality.

  • I trained with this man at Harrow Leisure centre in the 70's Nice Vid

  • Oh Suzuki hanshi becomes better, and better on his old ages.

  • oh, to be this good! I'll just keep trying!
