  • this is pretty average

  • great cover i never heard this before

  • only six years after theWHO! thats crazy to think of

  • The best cover of this was done by BLUE CHEER

  • This has to be '82-'83. Ed's tone and Alex's electronic drums are a dead giveaway.

  • can't be 1976. Alex didn't start using Simmons toms until the Diver Down tour.

  • @clevelandrum You are correct sir. Dead giveaway.

  • I remember when Blue Cheer rock this song! It definitely kicked ass!

  • This is pretty much a rip-off of The Who's rendition of this song, anyway it's still enjoyable.

  • que guena cancion

  • They copied THE WHO Live at Leeds version of summertime blues lol

  • if this is 1976 then at 2:11 TO 2:14 HE DOES WHAT PEOPLE KNOW AS TAPPING AND ITS SAID THAT HE DIDNT START DOING THE TAPPING THING UNTIL 1977 78 BUT YOU CAN CLEARLY HEAR IT

  • he probably did come up with tapping in 1976, but there is a rumor that alex told eddie not to play it live so no one would steal the technique

  • @VanHalenWorshiper

That's the full fledged tapping, that's an early rendition of tapping. He got it from some blues guy who would bend a string and then put his right index 2 frets below and pull off. That's just what I've been told.

  • this song has be coverd by jest about every grat band.

    t-rex

    the who

and the all mighty van halen.

    i love eddie..................

  • 1983!!!!

  • Lets get this cleared up. Which Van Halen is the best? Is it the early Van Halen with Dave Lee Roth or the second gen Van Halen with Sammy Hagar? To me, without question, the early Van Halen with Roth was the best. Eddie's guitar playing was at his prime during this era. Eddie's guitar playing and guitar playing innovation took a back seat during the Hagar era. I was fortunate enough to see Van Halen during the 70s when they were unknown and doing the hollywood club scene. Early VH Rule

  • In 1976, not tapping!!!

  • van halen never open'd for the rolling stones. the stones open'd for van halen

  • Damn Straight

  • Yaya, they just played first, right? It was the Stones stage though...and their tour...do YOUR homework off the back of Diver Down.

  • @stratdem Van Halen opened for the stones on the stones 1981 tour, i should know , I was there at the Orlando show at the Tangerine Bowl, summer 1981, this was Van halen after their fair warning lp, i remember

Dave mooning the crowd cause the critics called him an asshole..VH was good, The stones were not that good

Jagger's voice was hurtin and he sounded the same on every tune..

  • @stratdem i like where ur going but im guna fix it van halen never opend for the stones the stones just closed for van halen

  • @stratdem I was there too. Tangerine Bowl in Orlando. VH opened for the Stones. Henry Paul opened for both.

  • @stratdem Dude I think the only time when =VH= played with the stones was when =VH= opened for the Stones in Orlando on the Fair Warning Tour in 81.

  • @stratdem Dead Wrong. VH opened for the stones at the Citrus Bowl on two nights, Oct 24 & 25 1981

  • the greatest band of alltime!!!!!!

  • They're doing The Who version. That's why it sounds like Live at Leeds.

  • @darkknight91 ..... The Horrible Who ... The worst band in the world !!!

  • @darkknight91 Yep. They are totally playing The Who's verison here. Which I like!! Eddie was a huge Pete Townshend fan, and knew all of Live at Leeds. Also, Eddie and Pete almost did a solo album in the mid-'80s. It got scrapped after Pete's father died. Now how many people knew that one? :)

  • Van Halen is the best hands down!!!!! thanx for putting stuff up i can listen to when ive heard the albums to much. LONG LIVE VAN HALEN!!!!!!!!!

  • haha, yeah, i know the feeling, when i first got the zero demo, i just listened to that for 2 weeks straight, cos it was something different. Thanks for the sub too

  • it sounds so... un-van halen-like.

  • this isn't 1976. This is 1983 in South America. Ed's guitar and Al's drums didn't sound like that in 1976. Listen to the crowd. They weren't playing to crowds like that in clubs or the civic.

  • I saw them play this about 1981 when they opened for the Rolling Stones in Florida. The back of Diver Down is a pic of the band from behind the angled stage at that show. Awesome.

  • you lucky sonofabitch :P

    Im so jealous

  • van halen never open'd for the rolling stones my friend. you need to do your home work. at that show the stones open'd for van halen

  • Kick ass version!!!

  • fucking awesome! my favorite will always be Eddie Cohran's original, but this kicks major ass. I dig the solo that starts at 1:40, total Live At Leeds for a bit there.

    Awesome, thanks for posting.

    (1976?)

  • No problem! Yeah, 1976, when they were a cover band (with a heap of originals aswell) in Pasadena, and they played in clubs like the Starwood and Gazari's

  • i like the 1983 performance vid

  • van halen rocks! *****

  • Damn Right
