I was on this train and didnt know about its journey through the loop until i got to Union Station LA....needsless to say i was shocked beyond belief that we were going through the loop. A smile arouse from ear to ear :D
so was I. Amtrak could make a regular run over this route if they really pushed for it. They could break the Southwest Chief, like they do to the Empire Builder, in Barstow & send the other half to Oakland via BNSF trackage rights.
Did you stay in the PPC all the time? I heard some of sleeper passengers kicked out from the PPC while he wine tasting and they let coach passengers in the PPC for the wine tasting.
Yes, and drop the topic. I don't blame Amtrak for doing it, I actually agree with them for doing it. They are a company trying to make money, and that's all they were doing.
2 P42DCs. My train had a heavyweight PV on the rear, & #14 had the Silver Solarium. We met at Caliente- the only time we stopped btn Bakersfield & LA.

I was on the northbound train out of Union Station LA this day 06/22/08. I'll never forget my trip through the Tehachapi Loop.

I was recording video of this train from above when you were going through the loop! The hill I was standing on should be visible around 2:04.
If you choose to look at my video, start at 6:11 to match with what you've taken.
Great stuff! 5*

Very nice - a very different way to see the loop from inside a train! Approximately what time did you get there?
sirbustor 3 years ago
Not sure... we left Bakersfield around 1:20, made it to Caliente at ~2:00, waited for 14, ...I say atound 3 or 3:30.

I just got home. I was on #14 and it was really great trip. This was my first time to see the loop and I so excited when we met #11.
