Some may follow, but nobody will get ahead, it's that simple. Rakim is impeccable, so fluid he's off-the-hook Dope, liquid Gold! Man, this brother is like opium to the ears; you can free-base The "R" off the speakers, no other MC comes even close: he was at his zenith in 86, and today he's twilight years ahead, both lyrically and philosophically. God said: Let there be Hip-Hop. And there was The "R".
the punisher is such an under appreciated track, the lyrics in that song are insane. it was cool to hear them without the beat. i hate seeing the constant complaining of hip hop today but its sad that it went from figuratively killing someone with rhymes to literally killing someone with bullets.
I actually thought I was the only one who realized how fuckin crazy the lyrics are in the punisher, "Im pushin his eyeballs waaaay to the back of his head, so he can see what he's gettin into, a part of the mind he aint never been through."
to me eric b started buggin with the way he was dressing by 1990. he started looking more like those la niggas who started all this wearing your shirts all long and loooing like a fuckin bum. rakim was and is the best dressed rapper of all time i agree with 90steenager

@90steenager It's just one of those things where you had to be there to really understand it. Just be grateful that we were part of the generation that were lucky enough to witness music during that period. 1984-1996 were the best years. This is the friendliest I have ever seen Eric B.

Word to "Daddy Kane" Indeed, The "R" is a Rollin Stone, so Im Rollin, "Directions were told Then", "The Rhymes Are Stolen".
I want to see who keep Following and swallowing, Taking the Makings , Biting And Borrowing. "Rhymes Are As Deep As X-Rays". -=[]

Not only is "The Punisher" under appreciated but the "Don't Sweat The Technique" album is a beast also. Rakims first four records are impeccable!

Man- rappers just can't dress anymore. How did we go from looking dope like Rakim to wearing a Tee that looks like a dress?
