I wonder if Elvis Costello was invited. Aside from Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. he's always one of the first people I associate with Jazzmaster's. His signature model is gorgeous.
This was one of the best shows ever. I was backstage and it was history in the making. Each artist who played got a custom Fender reissue super rare! Gorgeous guitars!
Great footage. However, one serious question...how did the guitar come to be called the Jazzmaster when I've never, ever seen anyone play jazz on it? It seems like the most inappropriately named guitar ever made. One of the best sounding though...
what the fuck are you saying elvis costello would be there he loves fender and started jazzmaster seen in a way and idk what you saying about my bloody valentine
mmm...thats up to you, but if you want a satriani/vai kind of playing you should have tag "ibanez" intead of fender, thats the way jazzmasters had been played trough years, so i don't think that your opinion could be really relevant...
mmm...again... that's up to you...or what every body has told you that "music" is, ok sorry about the "satriani" stuff... but everybody that toldS me jazzmasterS sucks is because of the floating tremolo stuff...and blah blah...but again, our opinion is not relevant... for me...
I am a fender player and always will be, i'm hooked on the 2008 strat standard I got. What is the guy doing with his guitar around 3:33, he makes some sort of Indian noise by blowing what looks like into his pickups. I haven't ever been a Jazzmaster player, more of a strat tele guy. Blues baby!
I love Fender guitars. I think that Fender makes the best guitars ever, and I am a proud owner of a 1985 Fender Jazz Bass. The guitars created by Leo Fender helped shaped the face of music forever and influenced culture.
But, unfortunately, all of the bands in the video suck. Especially the guys who played random noise. I can do that sort of shit way better than them, yet I don't get paid for it. Why? Because I prefer playing rather than slamming the strings. It's not music. It's shit.
all of these guitarists have done some pretty great things band wise, but i agree that their noise stuff isn't their strongest suit sans a full band. but then again i'd always rather hear my noise as a part of a songs texture. that said i love television, dinosaur, sonic youth, and pretty much anything nels cline plays in. and these are the guys who have made the jazzmaster such a hot commodity in the world of indie/post punk/art punk world so they do deserve the spotlight for that.
fender make the most influential guitars in the world. even looking at them has inspired many players to bein, me being one of them. now after hours of hard work and practice, i have one!

@Plywoodhall You're saying Tom Verlaine, Jimmy Ripp, and Nels Cline ripped off Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr? Because that is fucking absurd.
RaygunShaun 11 months ago 5
@Plywoodhall even though verlaine been playing jazzmasters longer than all of them. solid observation.

@Dugger1997
The magnets in the pickups can receive the audio coming out of his iPhone speaker. You can do this with any guitar.

mike einziger played something like funky jazz on it...with the time-lapse consortium

@ lgu954k, from what I understand Fender was marketing it at Jazz players at the time but it flopped and got picked up later by the surf crowd.
