  • How can you tell what year the speed master was made?

  • Thanks I needed this vid to help me !! Appreciate it.

  • You are my hero!! I took apart my gun and couldn't figure out how to put it back together until I watched your video

  • Excellent vid. Short and to the point. Greatly help me disassemble and clean the 552 I just bought. Thanks man!

  • A 2008 penny on a '77 gun? I don't know man, I don't think it was made for a sandwich coin. Should have gone with an old pure copper one as the manufacturer intended! LOL. Great video. Dad and I each have one, but (and I'm ashamed to say this) we never broke either one down that far simply because we didn't know how. Now I have a project for Saturday. Thanks!!

  • @stiffy515 I think -most- people that own these don't give a second thought to cleaning them. :) You will be surprised at how much gunk is in there once you get it open.

  • @rjsilvers Just shot it full of more gunk yeasterday. Ran flawlessly as always. Will be tearing it down tonight. Thanks!

  • Good job ~ some fill lighting might have helped due to the lighter background.

  • Thank you for this nice video! I have an instruction manual for maintenance, but this is much simpler and easier way

  • Fuck yes dude you are my saviour thanks man! And thanks again

  • @godackgudalach1 Thanks for the comment. Glad I could help. :)

  • Nice job, bud - I had very little idea how to start (the detent pins looked like the place, but I hate screwing with those unless I know that's what they're for). You did a very professional and thorough video. I commend you.

  • Thanks! my eightyear old boy inherited one from his great grandfather(gone now) and its jamming up on us. a good cleaning is the answer! just trying to raise good kids the old fashion way!

  • @MrVictor4516 That's how kids need to be raised. :) You'll be amazed at all the grit and dirt these guns pick up over the years. Good luck.

  • Good video thanks for posting it, i just got a speedmaster in a trade and needed to learn how to clean it .. now all i need is a 2008 Penny lol

  • Thanks for posting. I just re-acquired a 1960 model from my Dad and I will give it a good cleaning before firing...i remember shooting it 25 yrs ago and i bet it's never been cleaned! ;-)

  • @kenheidi That seems to be a trend with these guns, Ken. Thanks for the comment. Hope the video helps. :)

  • Thanks man! My grandfather gave me his 1961 model 552 and it's beginning to jam and it's never been cleaned. I know I personally have already put 1500+ rounds through it and 49 years of not cleaning I think it deserves one!!! Looks so easy thank you!

  • @pcgamer6 Definitely give it a good cleaning, you'll be surprised how much dirt gets packed in them. Thanks for the comment. :)

  • The 552 is the only good semi auto .22 rifle Reminton has ever made. I had a 597 that was very accurate but it just jammed all the time I kept that rifle clean to.

  • i've had this gun for 12 years and had no idea it was so easy to strip down.

i guess after 12 years and at least 24,000 rounds its about time it had a clean? lol

  • I can't find the pins to knock out :/

  • Thanks for the vid....went and shot mine yesterday for the first time after inheriting them from my uncle, i'm sure it could use a cleaning.

  • thanx for this man. my dad gave me this for my b-day. he bought about 40 years ago and it has never been cleaned. i cant beleive how expensive they are now.

  • Thanks a lot for posting this! I have had my gun for about 20 years w/ about 5000 rounds through it without cleaning because I was too stupid to figure out how to take it apart. It's good to see you did it in less than 3 minutes!!! Thanks again. BTW... I absolutely love this gun!!!!!!!!

  • Haha. That seems to be a trend with these guns. Glad you found the video useful. :)

  • I worked during the summer of 1965 and paid $69.00 for mine. It was and still is a great rifle.

  • just got mine yesterday from my gramps

  • Going to get my 12 year old girl one. Nice job man.

  • Concise, well done. Better than the other disassembly videos for the 552. Thanks!

  • thank you. this is the first time i can really clean my 552 rem since I bought it 2 years ago.

  • Good video. I just got one from my grandfather made in 1976. It hasn't been used much, and never taken apart. The coin thing was a no go. Made a spiral shaped penny. HAD to use a driver.

  • i have the same gun. i have cleaned it spotless 5 times now and the gun still will not cycle 22LR rounds. it jams after 3 or 4 shots, but i can shoot .22 shorts all day long as fast as i can pull the trigger. any advice? thanks

  • @shockurmom i was just in the gun store the other day because i just got it from my dad its on oldie. anyway the guy loved it and actually had one, he told me that his would jam on the 3rd shot every time. he took it to a gunsmith who took it apart. there ended up being a peice that wasnt needed in the gun, he filed it away and since then no jams

  • thanks! i will have to get it looked at.

  • Excellent video! I've owned one of these rifles for about 10 years now and never knew how to tear it down to this level. Good to know, finally. :)

  • thanks -- just picked one up w/o manual, this is a big help!

  • Thanks for the comment, bud. Glad it helped.

  • That was a great How-To.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks, just cleaned one that belongs to my wife's dead father. I taught her how to load and fire it too.

  • That's awesome. Always good to get the Mrs. involved in the hobby. Glad the video helped.

  • Thanks a mil for the post! We were helping my 79 year old mom clean all her guns, (7 of them!) couldn't figure this one out and it definitely needed cleaning! Looks like it had NEVER been cleaned in 30 years.

  • Thanks! Video really helped me take apart a 552 I just bought. I didnt know the barrel came out of the receiver like that. Couldnt figure out how to get the bolt out.

I needed to replace the action bar and coulnt see how to get the old one off and new one in without taking the barell off.

  • I would pass on this rifle if in the market for a .22 semi-auto.

  • Why? It's a great gun. I think it's a far better value than a savage with their cheap magazines.

  • Anyone else have a problem with the barrel wobbling around in the reciever?

Mines got a lil play, throws off accuracy big time

  • thx im 12 and just bought one off my uncil and didnt know how to clean it but im kinda scarred i was saving for a wile and dont wana break it

  • Congrats on the purchase. As long as you don't take apart anything not shown in the video; you should be fine. And removing the fore-end and all of that is strictly optional. You can do a good job of cleaning it by just taking out and cleaning the trigger assembly and running some cloth down into the barrel.

  • Thanks bud. Never knew the 552 could be broken down that far. Have you ever redone the wood on one of these?

  • I haven't. But that may be a good subject for a new video... The wood on this one has been in sore need of some TLC since I purchased it.

  • Thanks mans, I just inherited one from my grandmothers estate and it was in serious need of a good cleaning.

You helped me alot. I appreciate it.

  • Glad you enjoyed the video. Makes it all worth it. :)

  • 2008 penny, thanks

I was just about to use a 2005 penny

    that was close

  • You'll be glad you used the 2008 edition. I'm thinking about upgrading to a 2009, but I'm not sure with the economy the way it is.

  • thanks. this was exactly what i was looking for.

  • The owners must have be related, I didn't mention mine had sand in it as well. All firearms bought new by me all look as good as the day I purchased them, I have some dating back to 82. Your video was great, Thanks

  • Thanks, I just bought one it's from the 60's and It was so crusted with unburnt powder. Now I can give it a good cleaning. The 552 was the first rifle I ever shot. Its sleek and slender...good design. Love it

  • Mine was the same way when I bought it, with at least a few ounces of sand in the receiver. Kind of amazes me how people treat their firearms.

Glad you found the video useful. :)
