  • the 1st Austin of wrestling. the attitude. the heel. and the black tights and gotee

  • 0:50 LMAO.......not at terry funk, but vince's FAKE laugh.

  • The ring attendant is a pedophile, and the referee accused Vince McMahon of rape. Sick times.

  • When was this? Late 70s early 80s?

  • I think funk was instructed to do that cause Mel Phillips was gay

  • Vince is doing commentary

  • i remember watching this years ago. Terry was a real tough guy, but extremely entertaining, worked his ass off to entertain the fans

  • I have a theory that Terry actually intended to beat the hell outta the ref (like usual) but He got to the ring and saw that it was a woman and promptly informed his attendant that his number was called. I wish somebody would ask him about the story behind this and that whole period in the WWF.

  • Don Muraco's mad when it's "end of file"!

  • He shoulda never put on Terry's hat, what did he expect?

  • What's wrong with this Funking guy?

  • @lopro091 you forgot the original ecw

  • True F'N legend!

  • Just awesome. Simple yet effectiive. No bad acting necessary.

  • that's how you get over as a crazy fucker

  • TF hit the spots and kicked arse

  • Hogan was the "superhuman" character whereas Funk and Funk-like guys were just badass, tough guys that would woop your ass.

  • Guys like Funk, Race, Flair, and Dusty Rhodes were too good to be in the WWF at that time other than in small doses. But they weren't quite where Hogan was with charisma, body, and personality to lead the WWF the way Hogan did at that particular time. A Hogan/Funk rivalry would have probably made some money on the scale Hogan/Orndoff or maybe Hogan/Piper did but probably not Hogan/Andre or Hogan/Savage. Guys like Funk and the others mentioned were just a different breed all together.

  • @CLewey44 You mean Funk and the others were actually human beings as opposed to being cartoon characters.

  • @afkokjjopjihuhbuihb Yes, but the cartoon characters worked. They worked better than any other attempt at making wrestling bigger than just the southern small town arenas with 100-150 people watching, drunk and throwing beer cans in the ring. Regardless, the Funks were badass.

  • @CLewey44 Hogwash. The only difference was McMahon dishonored the territories. The southern small arena wrestling had more wrestlers working, and more fans seeing live events than today's wrestling.

  • @fjccommish Hey bro, I agree. McMahon's goal was to wipe wrestling territories off the face of the Earth and make the WWF the only major promotion. Unfortunately he succeeded. Maybe the WCCW, AWA and NWA did more business than nowadays, but at the time, they were close to New York in popularity they just did more shows probably. Those promotions also didn't pay the wrestlers near as well as the marketing machine at WWF produced. I think ultimately, it hurt wrestling tho. I miss the territories.

  • @afkokjjopjihuhbuihb You hit it right on the MONEY with that comment! Look at the cartoons characters Tito, JYD, Martel, SuperFly, Duggen, the SheepHerders all became when they hit the WWF

  • god damn i love terry funk

  • 1:05 i hope he said funk

  • The Legend of Terry Funk lives on.

  • Vince made commentary interesting especially when warrior was put in the casket.

  • Terry funk vs michael saxon? hahahahaha

  • AHH!! WHEN WRESTLING WAS WRESTLING WWF,NWA ,AWA, WCCW!!!!

  • This is Mcmahon Commentary at his best.

  • This video is pure WIN. Terry Funk beats up a ring attendant. Female referee. The jobber actually gets some spots in. Match ends with Funk's signature finish. Tom Petty on the soundtrack.

  • good ol terry funk

  • I still love McMahon saying "OHHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOO"

  • should have ripped the referee's clothes off. lol

  • @thisislaser This is the first time I see a female ref in the WWF!

  • add my mate TheMysterio1995

  • I think the real Mel Phillips logged into YouTube and is the only dislike vote.

  • The girl was the first WWF/WWE female referee. I dont want to sound sexist but that just looked wierd theres no way you could believe she could control any big wrestler.

  • I hope my son grows up to be just like Terry Funk.

  • Give Mel Phillips some credit for a non worker he sold that beating like crazy.

  • @Lfdjake91

I'm glad he got beat. He was a pedophile along with terry garvin and pat patterson!

  • @Lfdjake91 i think terry stiffed him pretty damn good

  • I love it when the heels used to jaw back and forth with the fans. That fan with the glass's doesn't want to mess with the funker.

  • Comment removed

  • @darthchaosofrspw2009 ahh yeah . . . Mel Phillips was one of the guys (along with Terry Garvin and Pat Patterson) that supposedly molested guys in the locker room

  • That just goes to show what jeff bridges siad in Wild Bill, You never touch another mans hat

  • Ring attendant got exactly what he deserved. You don't just put on a cowboy's hat. Would someone wear Paul Orndorf's robe back to the locker room? I would like to see the Double Cross Ranch and have a steak at Big Texan in Amarillo.

  • a girl referee???? damn

  • @Hydrozaft Yeah, she's the one that claimed vince sexually assaulted her in a LIMO and demanded she "do things" for him if she wanted to succeed in her career. Mel Phillips (and/or terry garvin and Pat Patterson) was accused of doing the same with ring boys.

  • @mamacornettesmoney

    holy shit!!!

  • Terry Funk is one of the greatest of all time, not in the same league as Stone Cold or Hulk Hogan, but don't get me wrong he is in a league all his own, him and Mick Foley truely are wrestling legands, they have done things in this sport that no one else will ever do HARDCORE to the bone. You have to give him props for what he has accomplished with his career.

  • Cool! Terry Funk was a wildman. Just as The Sheik and Abdullah the Butcher.

  • what was the female referee's name?

  • @WM31987 Rita Chatterton. I know she was involved with some lawsuit with the WWF a few years later. Sexual harassment, as you'd expect.

  • Comment removed

  • Haha... Bimbo ref

  • oh yeah the funk brothers bad arz wrestlers in the world iam FAN OH YEAH I BROKE A FEW BONES AS KID ALL MALES DID FLYIN OVER CHAIRES HEHE THINGSDONT LOOK GOOD FOR YOU A ILOVE IT WRESTLIN

  • Did anyone notice how horrible Bruno's commentary was? He was one of the worst talkers in the history of the sport...

  • "You are NOT allowed to wear MY fuckin' hat!"

  • man terry has come a long way

  • I always liked Aldo Morenno, one of the WWWF's finest

  • @runway27r He was also known as Ricky Santana. He had great matches in WWC and Japan. He wore a mask in Japan and called himself the Iceman.

  • LMAO I loved him threatening to break that guy in half and backhand that woman in the crowd.

  • terry funk like harley race was one of the few guys that could come into the wwf in the 80s without having the steroid body.

  • a female ref thats crazy

  • Wow they made Funk look like a racist in the begining.

  • @ECWExtremeMoments There was nothing racist about anything you have watched. If anyone is a racist, it's you. Eat shit and die.

  • @DrFubarProzak Dude this was in the 80's not now. I'm just giving my opinion. And no I'm not racist you hear me say any racial slur no you didn't.

  • @ECWExtremeMoments Yeah, and your opinion sucks and has no merit. Again, there was nothing racist about anything featured in this video. Fuck off you stupid asshole.

  • @DrFubarProzak Shut the fuck up. I'm just saying ass hole.

  • @ECWExtremeMoments I'm still waiting for you to show proof of what was "racist' in this video. You can't prove it. You're just like a typical nigger...saying everything is racist. What if the video featured a black guy beating up a white guy...would you cry "racism" then? Probably not...you stupid nigger lover.

  • @DrFubarProzak Whooaaa. I knew you were a redneck! I was just joking a around until you showed your true colors. Wow like I'm offended that a redneck called me a nigger lover? Look rednecks don't put fear on anyone's hearts ok?

  • @DrFubarProzak No, they were definitely playing the idea that Funk was racist. Branding black guys? Come on ... Back then they did play racial angles. the heel was the BAD GUY. He'd be racist, then get his come-uppance.

  • @mamacornettesmoney I disagree with you totally. I am so sick and fucking tired of people saying everything is racist. What's more disgusting is that white people sticking up for niggers...and going against their own kind. Get with the fucking program...and stick up for your own kind. There is nothing racist about what happened in this video...mainly because Mel Phillips was a fucking pedophile and deserved to get his ass beat. Fucking idiot.

  • @DrFubarProzak grow up. It was a wrestling angle playing on racism. they did it all the time. your own racist ideas don't mean shit. I'm not saying WWF was racist for doing this, I'm saying the angle played on racism and there is no doubt that it did. You just have your own racial issues to deal with, obviously.

  • @DrFubarProzak LOL Wow. Still doesn't change the fact taht wrestling commonly played racial angles for heat back in the day.

    LOL

  • @DrFubarProzak you're clearly employed by NASA as a rocket scientist.

  • @DrFubarProzak lol wow man, you're cool cause you say the n-word.

  • @ECWExtremeMoments How did they make him look like a racist?

  • @landinmycourt First of all I was looking for anyone racist in the comments which I did. I just joking to find a racist.

  • @ECWExtremeMoments Yeah your right. DrFubarProzak fell right into your trap. What a DUMBASS!!!

  • @landinmycourt No what a REDNECK!

  • @ECWExtremeMoments But they really were trying to make Funk look like a racist. If anyone thinks having Terry Funk feud with JYD over braanding people (particularly black people) wasn't meant to stir up some ideas of racism on Funk's part is fooling themselves.

  • Terry Funk is a Real Bad Ass...

  • for the record, Rita Marie/Chatterton's allegation of rape has never been corroborated. And yeah, too bad Phillips didn't take a few more beatings like that, filthy pervert

  • Terry funk,, The REAL Champion.... all american

  • Was this a Virgil audition?

  • @Pinwormx no a Virgil audition involves putting your dick on Pat Pattersons desk

  • Funk should have pinned Hogan.

  • This actually started the JYD/Funk feud. A week after this Mel came back with the JYD. Feud were much better back then. RIP JYD.

  • A female ref?!?!

  • @jre52301 I think the female ref is Rita Marie (real name Rita Chatterton) who was raped by Vince McMahon in his limousine in mid-1986. She went public in 1992/3 (and her story was backed up by McMahon's limo driver), but the statute of limitations had passed by then so McMahon was unable to be tried as a criminal for his actions.

  • @Suriel1981

mcMahon seems like the kind of guy who would do that.

  • I fucking HATE McMahon's laugh @ 0:48!!!

  • @rosario508 UHHAAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

  • he really beat the shit out off the black guy for some reason....i think i know why but im not gona say...and then dominated the entire match..AWESOME

  • @thbebokg1 cause he put his cowboy hat on

  • @JoeyPencils dident notice that when i watched it the first time

  • @thbebokg1 No short eyes should put on Terry Funk's hat.

  • This is the ref that accused Vince of rape?

  • we all saw mcmahon go on with hogan flair foley scsa hhh HOW ABOUT A MAIN EVENT FOR THE AGES MCMAHON VS TERRY FUNK KING OF HARDCORE VS KING OF CRAPPY SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT THAT WELL BE AWESOME

  • What I always liked about Funk was that he was the only star who would sell for the "jobber" (which he does here - just a bit - at 2:50) during WWF TV matches. The TV bouts were almost always 100% squash matches, but Funk made them slightly more interesting.

  • I think that guy may have been Mel Phillips..he was a ring annoucer too...got himself in some trouble in the 80s for butt-fucking little boys or something like that....karma's a bitch, bitch!

  • Haha. You could see at 1:00 that Terry wanted to hit or throw the ref, then realized it was a woman. Funk sure knew how to make an impact real quick

  • I have been watching this shit since I was fucking 5 years old, can you beat that?

  • Dispicable display of Southern Hospitality by some sod buster from The Triple K Ranch, Idaho.

  • The brother would have got it worse in prison.

  • Is the Ref Rita Marie ?

  • Terry didn't want his cowboy hat on that NIGGER'S GREASY HEAD!

  • if this happened today Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be on CNN raising hell about this.

  • Terry was asked about this in a shoot by Raven and he said he didn't hold back his kicks "for obvious reasons"

I notice he was hitting him pretty stiff. Usually for non wrestlers, the wrestlers work softly but enough to make it look legit. Then again, this was around the time according to court documents that Philips out of ring activities were becoming known.

  • Philips' activities were known this far back?!? He was still with the company all the way up to 1991 and maybe into 92......this video would be 7 years earlier. 7 years..... geez...

  • Many of the wrestlers were starting to notice disturbing things but the upper management either ignored it as hearsay or were afraid of a lawsuit.

  • Keep in mind also he was a "independent contractor" which is codeword for not our problem unless something affects us. Last I heard the bastard was working in a show store.

  • Hahahahahahhahaha I remember that match that was 1985. Terrible Terry Funk.

'I'm middle aged and crazy' He was histerical.

  • Well thats one way of finishing off a child molester!

  • The Funks were the greatest

  • Terry took two great leaps over the top rope and out of the ring--first frontwards and then backwards.

It must've taken a lot of effort to get that down.

  • I was about 14 when this happen. Always did like Terry. Hogan wouldn't last 5 minutes w/Funk.

  • That is pure HEAT!!!! No one in the building knew who Terry Was before the match, but they damn sure knew who he was when they left!

Spinning Toe Hold Finisher - lol!

  • that was great! and a female ref.. wierd.

  • I was 13 years old, sitting on the can, watching a 5" b/w TV on a late Saturday night when this happened. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! I've loved Terry Funk ever since!

  • I remember this that ring attendent came back the next week with JYD and that started the Funk vs JYD feud.

  • Vince's best match: "Oh, that poor man," and "This is the wildest thing I've seen in m life!"

  • OMG! That was so funny how he beat the living hell out of that ring attendant.

  • umm yes a jobber has won a match, I seen brooklyn Brawler beat Triple H on monday night raw

  • Damn hes Heel as fuck!

  • Awesome Debut.

  • Terry said he and Dory were promised a tag title reign but the road schedule was insane and he couldnt handle it.

  • has a jobber ever won a match

  • LOL! I rememba this. I knew the second that dude put that hat on he was DEAD MEAT! He beat up a black guy,a hispanic and if he would've slapped the chick it would've been the icing on the cake.

  • Meaner than a rattlesnake and crazy like a fox.

  • McMahon: Oh no look whats happening!

I remember this night 83' ish I reckon and loved this WWF debut of Terry Funk. Great way to establish his character!

The WWF back then was so funny, far less glitz and BS like there is now.

  • This was 85. Around the same time as the original Wrestlemania.

  • You never wear another mans hat son.

  • breeaakdancer: it's his WWF debut, not his overall debut.

  • i thought terry funk debuted in 1965?

  • His father, legendary wrestler Dory Funk Jr., died in the 1970s.

    Terry's still around though.

  • To me personally, Terry Funk is the greatest of all time

  • greeted by a round of booze!"

  • king of the angles!! we were all freaked out when we saw this! his best tv appearance in the wwf. they dropped a huge ball by not giving him a push. the fact that he DIDN'T fit in to their current stable could have been a great angle. as usual, TF was ahead of the curve. austin picked it up but it took another decade-and -then-some.!

  • He WAS given a push. He beat a top face JYD on both Saturday Night's Main Event (NBC) and at Wrestlemania II. He had a toy, as much TV exposure as any of the WWF heels at the time and was beating top babyfaces. Funk was only there for about a year or a little more. They had so many people in the stable, that they'd slow build people (Steamboat was around for 2 years before winning a belt - Orndorff & Piper never did win belts in this era).

  • perhaps Terry Funk snapped because the ring attendant and later ring announcer Mel Phillips made a pass at him since he was a flaming homo??!?! Good ass whoopin' by Funk.

  • Does anyone agree that Funk was no match for Hogan and that's why the WWF had him feud with the JYD instead of going after the World Title?

  • And thats why Flair/Funk became a better feud then anything Hogan did in the 80's? Hogan is a joke who isn't fit to whipe Terry Funks ass. Get your facts straight dumbass.

  • Funk was one of the best workers in history. He could really make the losers look good for a while, and then they give 'er. The same could be said for Rick Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Curt Henning, and Shawn Michaels.

  • Hell yeah. Funk is by far one of the best in the buisness. Not to mention the other name drops from his generation of wrestling

  • Wow, its crazy when you realize that by this time (1985) it had been 20 years since Funk made his wrestling debut. He still wrestled for a while even after 2005.

Over 40 years of wrestling, which is truly incredible considering that sadly many wrestlers today don't even make past their 40th bday!!

  • @marineguy4eva 1985 was just his wwf debut. he actually made his pro debut 20 years prior to that in 1965.

    gotta admire mr funk.

  • Never seen a girl referee in the WWF, WTF?

  • That's the woman who brought a sexual harrasment suit gainst McMahon. She said they told her they were going to promote her heavily, make her a big star with toys and all. But one day she said McMahon dropped his pants and told her to do her thing if she wanted to keep her job. This all came around the same time the 3 gay guys (Phillips, Patterson, Garvin) were under scrutiny for similar advances and when the big steroid trial happened.

  • Oh OK thanx.

  • @mamacornettesmoney

What was Garvin's first name? It wasnt Ronnie or Jimmy the wrestlers was it?

  • @novusmundi Terry Garvin. He was Ronnie's partner back in the 70s. Jimmy, who was Ronnie's step-son, broke in as a teenage valet/manager for them. Terry was the prissy, flamboyant one, and Ronnie was the tough no-nonsense guy.

  • @mamacornettesmoney Damn! You must be as old as I am (LOL). I didn't think anyone else remembered the old Garvin Brothers team from the mid-'70s. They were huge in the South back then. Thanks for jogging my memory, dude! How about the original Hollywood Blonds, Jerry Brown and Buddy Roberts (future Freebird)? Almost 20 years before Austin & Pillman used that name.

  • @elc1960 - Didn't the original Hollywood Blondes wrestle out of the Olympic Aud in LA back in the mid 1970s?

  • @sportsoracle You may be right. Please don't test the old man's failing memory (LOL).

  • @sportsoracle Yes, they did.

  • @sportsoracle Yes, they did, among other places.

  • terry funk one bad motherfucker

  • Don't mess with Terry Funk! Patrick Swayze got lucky in Roadhouse!

  • You can see how a lot of Stone Cold Steve Austin's persona was adopted from Terry.

  • That'll teach you to wear Terry's hat.

  • Middle Aged And Crazy...Lol gotta love Terry Funk.

  • Was that Slick who he attacked??

  • No, that was Mel Phillips. He was a ring attendant and ring announcer.

  • I never realley liked Terry but you have to respect the guy. I think he is still wrestling too. I loved it when he was Chainsaw Charlie.

  • min 1:30 ooooooohhhhhhhhhh nnnnnnnnoooooooo

I'm glad Terry Funk beat the crap out of Mel Philips for abusing kids back in the early 90's.
