I grew up in OF from the age of 12-17. My mom moved us all there because she was tired of the rat race of the city like Vancouver. My uncle was also living there with his 4 kids at the time. I cried for days when i found out we were moving there but i grew to love it. I also cried when i had to leave when I was 17 when they closed the town. It was a sad day for many and a lot of us still hold it in our heart.
I agree with the First Nations; fix this. I was born there, and it is a mystical place; really. What a crime that Ocean Falls was destoyed twice; once when it was developed by white folks, then when it was taken apart by other white folk...

I have wonderful, magical memories of Ocean Falls as a kid. Lived right by the school playground, 1965-1968, up to age 10. We did lots of boating & exploring, also swam in the swim club with Ralph Hutton! Watching the video was emotional, I have always wanted to go back & have the opportunity now with a boat, maybe next summer. Very sad to see so much has been destroyed...
Hi that was my grandfather in the video... by Butners rock.. I was born and raised in ocean falls... We left in 1980's when it closed down for good.. while my grandparents were still alive i visisted them every summer.. and i loved going home.. but i hate leaaving it.. everytime..
I wish i could edit my post.I always thought the song was called "ocean falls".I will remember it as"Beauty and the Beast" from now on.it's been almost twenty years.my apologies.
I remember seeing the music video "Ocean Falls" way back in the early ninety"s,and over the years the one verse would come back to me."Ocean Falls, whatever happened to that town".it always reminded me of ghost towns and the irresponsibility of the people who basically laid it to waste. What a shame.P.S.it's been almost twenty years since i heard the song, and along with the mini documentary really angers me and makes me want to do something about the companies and government who don't care.
Great video. I'm planning on heading out to Ocean Falls, maybe in 2012, summertime. It would be neat if they could start a little ghost-town tour for tourists that come in on the ferry during the summers.
@142365879 Hi If your refering to my post Thelogrunner .Have to look into dvd transfer as we already have it on vhs.Played it at my mothers wake and my friends were mezmerized.Plus it would have to be edited as there is family related scenes in the footage. Think i inherited the laid back syndrome living in O.F. My name is Roger Kornafel, We lived at 691 maybe someone remembers us.I don,t know if my dad had the foresite when he started filming O.F. but he did have a lot of excellent footage.
Great production .I have my own piece of paradise .Hours of 8 mil film taken by my dad .A time period late 50s to the mid 60s .Town site ,Link Lake , Martin Valey and some of Fisherman Island. It breaks my heart to remember. We arrived in 55-56 and left in 67.The U.S.A. is my adopted home but the memories live on. My younger sister was the only true born there.Keep the dream alive, There is no other paradise in the world that the RAIN PEOPLE can call home.We were a special people.
I have been looking for this video since 1991. The story and music are excellent... the song comes to my mind whenever I hear someone talk about Ocean Falls... and I haven`t seen this video in 19 years. You have done such an excellent job with this documentary Tony, I hope that all is going well with you. I have wanted to see Ocean Falls for many years. Hopefully there are some caring people living there keeping things safe, but it is so sad that our government failed to save such a gem.

Thank you for posting this but you got me balling my eyes out..for a number of different reasons..that it's no longer,,and my kids will never know the magic of being a rain person....
thanks for the info i was thinking of opening a bed and breakfast is this a good place to start something or is the government going to try to close the town??????
Great film Tony...Powerfull message! My wife and I sail our boat there nearly every summer. There is a feeling that keeps drawing us back. Thanks capnroy
that was excellent. I have been there several times as I used to work on the Ferry. Love the song btw and the singer is not to hard to look at either!!!!
Hi, i also used to live in O.F. from 1975 until they closed it down. I was one of the last people to leave and left after my mom and stepdad. As well as my uncle Ken who raised his kids there. My mom moved us there from Vancouver. I cried for days because it was a huge change for me but i grew to love it and cried when i had to leave. You say you were never there but it looks like the video was made around them parts. I loved the video anyway and it made me cried some more.
Because.I use to live there right now all the building that use to be there are now fallin down and I know people that go into the builds and they could get hurt and so they took most of them down but its a very nice place to live there.
Oh and this guy sings about OF beautifully. He definetly captured the meaning!

I was 7 years old when our family left Ocean Falls in 1956. We lived in a panabode in Martin Valley. No desire to return.

The government at the time called it "returning back to nature" They wanted it to "go away" The people felt very different.
