Whoaaa!!!! This is just incredibly beautiful! In a way, it's even better than the music version! It's like they are in the same room with you, or something like that. Really really great job you did!!! Do you have more videos like this one? If not, could you please upload more?
Awesome... this vid proves that even though Frida was a mezzo-soprano, she had a huge range and a huge voice and in fact sang the highest note in this song. At 3:00, it's clear Agnetha isn't singing, but Frida (off camera) is.
@graficjack It isn't that hard for a singer to do a quick flip to "head voice" which is what Frida is doing and she is singing the harmony in the song. Frida stated herself that Agnetha had a "much higher voice" which is evident in most, if not allof ABBA's recordings. That doesn't mean Frida is incapable of singing in higher registers or Agnetha singing in lower registers.
Is the isolated vocal coming from the 5.1 surround mix from the DVD? It would be the Front Centrer channel? I am also wondering if the vocals were actually re-recorded in the studio afterwards because in a live performance you would be hearing more "bleed-through" from the hand mike....
@THEmotownboy I saw this when it originally aired and even then I asked myself the same question, was it re-recorded or even pre-recorded. There's something about the the lipsynchronisation (especially with agnetha) that doesn't look right or sound right.
I am sure that they re-recorded the vocals in the studio. If these were the live vocals, we would be hearing the band so much louder than what is here. What little we hear sounds like what would be heard from the vocalist's headphone in the recording booth. I believe it has been documented in one of the ABBA timeline books that some lead vocals for the "ABBA The Movie" concert scenes were redone in the studio. The song "I Wonder" comes to mind.
WOW! This is genius. Whey call this method "oopse"? Anyway, I like both voices but when Frida joins Agnetha, the song becomes even more beautiful. Awesome!
So amazing! Some people may not like Agnetha's voice in this clip, but Agnetha had to sing it that way. If you hear the official audio you can hear almost the same.
OMG, now I know what people were complaining about back in the day...I heard from a lot of European fans saying you could hear how Agnetha's voice was suffering from her smoking habit. Agnetha's voice sounds so whiny and weak here...thank goodness she sounds better now! :-)
As for Frida...she sounded wonderful, and her harmonies have such a melancholy sound. Perfect for this song!
Great job stripping the music from the vocals, BTW! Keep these videos coming, please!!
Wow!! This sounds soooo great!! Now you can clearly hear which part was sung by Frida! She did a very good job singing together with Agnetha in this beautiful song. Please, share some more of these live recordings with us?!
i never thought i'd live to hear abba a capella in a entire song! thanks for posting this centre channel! how did u do it? what software was used to extract an individual channel?
Rudolf you are amazing how you can take a performance like this and just extract the lead vocals from it and make it sound so beautiful! I sure don't know how you do the things you do but I sure like it, I will tell you that! I will put this one to my favorites and play it a lot, I just love it so much! Great work my friend!
I'm sorry, but I don't like this much. Yes the voices are stunning, but to me ABBA is the whole sound, the blend of music and vocals, and all the little bits in the background. ..It sounds odd..sorry..
Thank you Rudolf, this is just incredible. When Frida joined it, it brought me to tears. I love it that after all this time, there are still things that can jolt me into loving ABBA all over again - and the admiration just keeps growing and growing.
Stripped bare, their voices together are so beautiful. They are so clear it's like they are sitting on my desk singing to me.
This is quite incredible. At first, I thought this was impossible; surely it can't be Agnetha, but a very good soundalike.
Half way through the first verse, I recognised all the nuances. By the time Frida had joined to create their unique sound, I realised the impossible had been achieved!
If you could replicate this technique for another song (in particular, Dancing Queen) you would make a lot of people very happy! Thank you.
Congratulations to your software for managing to nearly complete the impossible - see the Beatles Anomalies List/Extras article on Out Of Phase for details on why this is theoretically impossible. I say nearly, because this algorithm obviously overemphasises the vocal range - it doesn't do the opposite of OOPS or we'd hear lead gtr solo too. There is also some delay beween the original and processed signal, obvious esp at "the feeling that I'm losing her..."
This showa you what makesABBA ABBA. Those voices, so unalike, working together to produce that most fantastic sound. Just wonderful.
