i played this when i was younger, such an amazing game

I found this game very hard compared to others. Though the number of units was low, the units were very expensive and you would run out of resources very fast. As you were not allowed to expand, you had to patrol the mining routes to avoid your peasants being killed, not to mention that there was no static defense, such as towers, to protect the mining centres.

Loved Warcraft 1, this was creepy and dark, you had dungeon missions (unlike warcraft 2), both factions had different magics. (unlike warcraft 2)

Even though boths had units with equal stats (footman-grunt, elven archer-troll axthrower etc) the spells had major differences. While the Alliance had Holy Vision, Healing, Exorcism, Lightning, Fireball, Flame shield, Slow, Invisibility, Blizzardand Polymorph the Horde had Eye of Kilrog, Bloodlust, Runes, Touch of Darkness, Death Coil, Haste, Unholy armor, Death and decay, Whirlwind and Raise the dead. So there's clearly a difference in their spells which can affect the battle.

@84Tysken In warcraft 1, archers have +1 range while spearmen have +1 damage, if you want a proof go in the unit editor. In warcraft 2, elven archers have access to an upgrade that gives them +3 damage while axe throwing tolls have access to regeneration ability. These are the major differences in the basic units, but spells were all differents in both factions.

@nymerie If you are using dosbox then first: open the dosbox CONF file in notepad. find where it says Fullscreen mode:false and change false to true. now you can play in fullscreen!
