Homemade Dog Food & Treats : How to Make Pumpkin Dog Treats

You can feed things that might have 'fat' to dogs like this recipe or you can feed the treats at the store that has (Yes I did read this on the ingredients) Animal plasma, animal parts, or animal digest (poop). Anyway did you really think that dog treats were not fattening! If you feed these dog treats like a treat then they will be fine. This is 1 tablespoon of brown sugar out of 2 cups of flour and a few tablespoons of Crisco its not gonna kill 'em! They're cookies yall! FEED THEM LIKE COOKIES

I've worked for a vet for 10 years and I would never feed these to a dog. If the vet heard of the crisco nutmeg and brown sugar she would gasp. Try a carrot stick instead! This recipe is a vet visit waiting to happen!

The wheat flour, nutmeg, and *GASP* crisco should all be omitted from the recipe. Many dogs can not digest wheat, nutmeg is a toxin, and crisco is plain old garbage! I'm human and I don't eat crisco. Thanks for the recipe, it just needs modified to be healthy, wholesome, and natural. This as is may be just as bad as boxed treats. I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just being honest.

I have 2 dogs, one is a male Boston Terrier the other is older and female German/Australian shepeard. I have been trying to get my Boston Terrier to eat what she eats (Pedigree) is the only brand we buy and have for years. I have tried to feed him so many foods he only eats canned dog food. @markp64 Its not really bad' ingredients! We are talking a few tablespoons of brown sugar and crisco in with what 2 and 1/2 cups of flour? That will be like less than a pinch of fat in each cookie. We only eat a few people cookies because they have a lot of sugar and fat in them same with dogs if we only feed like 2-3 cookies to the dog (Depends on the size of dog) It will not hurt the dog! Im not saying that criso and sugar is good for them but its a darn dog cookie! I PROMISE the dog will live

These are treats people so you're not going to be feeding a lot to a dog just like with any treat, all in moderation. Wouldn't use nutmeg though, cinnamon only is ok you don't need to feed much.

But brown sugar no and crisco no way! There are lot healthier ways to make a pumpkin flavoured treats for your dog. Some dogs can't tolerate wheat either.

I'd be changing it to rice flour, honey instead of sugar and sunflower oil and you can use a cookie cutter instead then.

Pumpkin is Fine for dogs it will not kill your dog. It's high in fiber with an abundance of disease-fighting nutrients, including potassium, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and vitamins C and E. Pumpkin also contains carotenoids, which have been linked to promoting health in your dog as well as disease-fighting nutrients.

I would never give my dogs crisco and I'd never add refined sugar to my recipes. Why not olive oil or honey?

I make my own treat recipes and find that organic brown rice flour (gluten free) is the best as opposed to wheat flours. Better for their tummy and if the dog has grain allergies.
