It made 400 HP and 424 ft. lbs. of torque at the rear wheels on a Mustang chassis dyno. If you look at my other videos, you will find a couple of the dyno runs.
There are lots of things that you can do - depends what you want to do with the car: drag race, autocross/road race, street machine, or just spice up a daily driver. I suggest you check out the ImpalaSS forum for lots of technical advice. Find it at impalassforum "dot" com
yea i decided to go with the trick flow heads, and the lt1 comp cam xtreme camshaft, and some headers, its gonna cost me half the price of the lt4 kit, and give me more horses than the lt4, wat do u think?
It's all about the porting and matching the heads with the cam. If you are looking for bolting on "as machined" heads, I think that the Trick Flows get the vote. If the heads will be ported, follow the recomendations of your head porter. My porter recomended Trick Flows for maximum performance.
I just bought another impala and was thinking on concentrating more on the airflow as my performance upgrade. things like a mass air flow sensor from the camaro z28 thats half inch bigger, bigger throtle body, headers and lt4 hot cam. and i need a suggestion on the exhaust. should i keep the stock 2.25 and just add an x pipe or go 2.50. and would i need to reprogram the computer for any of this
You will need PCM programming for any or all of these: F-body MAF, larger throttle body, any camshaft swap. You will not need a re-program for exhaust work. The 2-1/4" stock pipes are VERY restrictive because the factory pipes are "smashed flat" on the driver's side before the muffler. Go with an aftermarket 2.5" system.
Not necessarily. More airflow means that you can burn more fuel, which gives you worse fuel economy (and more HP) when you put your foot down. However, if you reduce backpressure (upgrade exhaust) and improve breathing (upgrade air intake system) AND drive with a light foot, the engine will not have to work as hard to move the SAME amount of air while cruising. That will get you better cruising fuel mileage. But if you burn more fuel to make more HP, you will get reduced fuel economy.
I didn't mention it before, but you should really upgrade the stock airbox. The factory box is VERY restricted due to the size of the intake opening. Lots of info on options on the Impala SS Forum.
Cutouts are y-pipes in the exhaust system, one half of the "Y" is capped and the other half goes through the mufflers normally. When you take the caps off, you are now running with open headers. The standard setup with caps uses bolts to keep the caps on. This car has electric valves rather than caps, so the headers can be opened up using a switch from the driver's seat.
The Trick Flow heads and CIA headers are specifically designed for the LT1 engine used in Caprices and Impalas from 94-96. They will not fit other engines from earlier years. Feel free to message me offline for more info.

more ar flow will also give me better fuel economy right

I finally understand headers aren't the same thing as heads.

Some one please explain to me what cut outs are.

So I can go to the shop and tell them I want trick flow headers and they will install them on my car.I love how the sound changes.
DCrepresenter 4 years ago
The headers are from Clear Image Automotive in Washington (Google the name). The cyclinder heads are Trick Flows.

Will both of these items fit on any caprice or impala engine
