Thankfully, Agnew NEVER became President - that went to Gerald Ford, who ended up being so much better that Agnew could have ever been. Agnew was a rightist radical, Ford was a centrist. Ford healed the nation, Agnew as Prez would have been salt thrown onto a festering wound.

Agnew had zero influence in the Nixon Administration, and Nixon disliked him. RN kept him out of the loop on everything, which is why he was not ensnared in Watergate.

Therefore, he was nowhere near as dangerous as Cheney.

What I've never understood is why Nixon selected Agnew as a running mate in the first place; it made little sense geographically, Agnew was not a major player in thee GOP, and he brought no real strength to the party or the ticket.

wtf r u talking about, it was 1968, agnew was conservative, he was gov of maryland, that made him appealing to the south. nixon was a west coast warrior. and im pretty sure nixon tried to milk the agnew fal out for all it was worth. if agnew had held out longer he could had been our president for a month or two.

I think Agnew was way ahead of his time. Twenty years before Rush Limbaugh ... Thirty years before Dubya ... Agnew's vision is now dominant in the GOP and in many quarters of the Democratic party (i.e., the Clintons).
