A free fall from an airplane lasts 45 to 60 seconds. A helicopter cannot fly as high as an airplane. Therefore he should get way less than 45 seconds. However, he did manage to call and took his sweet time. Also there is no wind, can you imagine trying to whisper on the phone while free falling?

Apparently, he is falling with a top speed of less than 20 kilometers per hour, which explains how he would survive the fall.

@Seannolan572 No. Because you reach terminal velocity at 142m/s. Wind resistance is too high to go faster due to gravity if you hit an impact absorbing object you might just survive the fall. Skydivers have had this experience and lived..one lady landed on hard concrete on the runway..lived but with a broken back...another guy landed in a tree..split it in half..broke almost every bone. made a full recovery in just 8 mnths. Both still skydive. A car roof would be a 'soft object' at those speeds.
