Well, metal has evolved over the years. KISS was hard rock and metal at the time, of course since then a lot of heavier sounding bands have come out and now KISS sounds more like rock or even pop metal. Although Creatures of the Night still has some really hard sounding tracks. :)

Kiss was the first metal my younger brother and I listened to in the mid-1980s. Actually, we accidentally discovered this kind of music. It was on a cassette tape where side-A was all the pop hits of the time and on side-B, the classic 70s KISS songs were recorded on top of the original songs! But back we didn't know that it was KISS. It was years later that we found that out. We remember finding the loud amplified music rather amusing and unusual. My brother is a loyal metal fan to this day!
