The company my dad used to work for were one of the companies employed to dismantle the cranes and he said it was terrible to watch but he had to do his job.
I live literally a stones throw away from Swan Hunter, and when your walking down the old railway line its a sad sight to see one or two cranes left standing.
the 2 red swan neck cranes r bein dismantled and shipped 2 india along with the floating crane the titan 3 in the floating dock. the rest of the cranes r being scrapped coz the indians dont want them and all the over head cranes and the rails in the north shed r going aswell.
I have been a fitter & turner working in and out of this yard for a period of 30 yrs I am still here helping with the dismantling, when I read the comments (below)...I am never ceased to be amazed by the brainless ...very poor grammar...nieve... opinions of people who have never worked in shipbuilding and do not know what the hell they are talking about...god help us!!!!!!!!
in all fairness, i really don't think you know what you are on about, i have been working in the yards a lot longer than you son and i think the fact that you are helping them dismantle is nothing short of dispicable
Glad to see all this type of yard go down the pan,it made you men old,and with nothing to show for it on there deaths,,a waste of working class time,all of it,thats why the world now gets china,and india to do this kind of mindless work,work is for the rabble,and thats what we all were.glad its gone.
Making china and India do these types of works doesn't mean that chinese or Indians are mindless peole.And never use the term"do do".Its just that they readily accepted,doesn't mens that they are mindless.You people should be thankful to them one way or ther other,that they have taked off the burden from ur shoulders.Atleast respect other people dude.And off to the prejudice.
