I knew Uncle Gary Poretsky, the victim... I knew him rather well, and he was a peaceful man, a spiritual kinda fellow, loved to play instruments, loved life to the fullest... ALWAYS HAD A HUGE SMILE ON HIS FACE, this Douglas guy robbed us all of a dearly beloved, and well respected member of the Puna community, but he will never be forgotten. Old man Douglas, you are very lucky you are thousands of miles away, that's all I got to say.

@photojourn1 I just read the whole article,Man! yes this guy sounds like pure bloody evil.He only get's 4 years in a Thai slammer for outright murder??!! and a completely cowardly murder at that.I'm rather shocked he hasn't been killed in prison by other inmates,and the king pardoned this murdering bastard to boot! why did he get only 4 years in prison for murder?

I think that he got 2 years 9 months for the actual murder and 1 year 3 months for illegal possession of a gun and also not having a license to carry the gun.

because he's an ex-pat who has now lived in thailand for 28 + years & has also worked with the police off/on & teaches English. I assume this reduces ones sentence.

I met him in Chiangmai at the jail that he is currently in.

have you ever heard of warren fellows? I did three days in jail up here in canada, im asuming that was a vacation compared to Chiangmai. Is that the jail thats also called the Bangkok Hilton?

No the "Bangkok Hilton" is in Bangkok...its real name is Bangkwang, also called "The Big Tiger" because they say it eats men alive. This is a jail in Chiang Mai.

Drug dealers get death sentences, commuted to 50 years and this murderer only gets a few years?

Makes lots of sense.

Yes, and the guy as I said is a complete asshole who thought he was a big man because he killed someone and basically got away with an extremely small sentence. He was neither a cop or a teacher, just something nasty and he has not lived in Thailand for 28 years either.
