I remember I was walking home from school once and there was a small flock of them picking off berries on a small tree near my driveway. That was the first and only time so far I've ever seen a cedar waxwing in person.
Oh they're beautiful! They're so elegant. My favorite description is of Suzie Gilbert in her book "Fly Away." I think she describes one as a Japanese Emperor dressed in robes and a colorful mask.
I still remember when I was small and a flock of them suddenly turned up in a tree at an old shopping center by my house. They really are birds of mystery.

@drdichro If you see a flock of robins, look among them for smaller birds. Cedar waxwings like to hang out with robins.

These birds...are very hard to view...do they avoid people...I don't blame them...but I rarely see them...

I'm not sure...the ones I saw might have been bohemian waxwings even...they're kind of difficult to tell apart at first glance.
