Are these the kind of bows the Nizari Ismailis would have used? I ask because I was doing some research on Assassins which comes from Hashshashin, which was a name given to the secretive killers the Nizari used to scare other armies from attacking their cities, sorry if I rambled a bit, and if you don't know thats fine, just asking because you use these bows and know a lot of the history :)
@miles305678 I am speculating, as I have not done any sort of research on the issue; Considering the era of the Hashashin, I would recommend you to look at late era Seljuk bows and to Persian bows in general. Still very very close to the bows we use in our training today (only morphologically of course).
Merhaba. Hocam okçulukta yeniyim fakat grozer'den türk tipi bir yay alma niyetim var. Ne tavsiye edersiniz? Daha fazla bilgiyi nerden edinebilirim? İlginiz için şimdiden teşekkür ederim.
Thumbring was probably invented to reach relative longer draws with shorter composite bows. Pulling the string with one finger (thumb) avoids finger pinch in shorter bows. I have seen some Czech archers shooting Korean bows (as short as the Turkish bow) with two fingers but it would have not been possible with heavier warbows. After all, thumb release has additional advantages...
The Grozer is a replica, therefore it is not custom made for thumbring shooting. So it doesnt really matter; shoot the way you want. Just remember to have fun with it!
BTW argirotoxos92 above is also from Greece and he was also interested in Turkish Archery. Unfortunately I wasnt able to pay atention to him lately.
i dont like the word replica it makes it sound bad.. i think it is a very good bow. BTW argirotoxos92 had a big break while studing taekwondo and wing chun kung fu. and he is back!!! i am him!!!that doesnt mean i dont do taekwondo and wing chun anymore. i just hooked up with archery again cause my thumb is okey!!! nomore thumbrings for me...... three fingers way FTW!!
you already knew my name is hermes. you see this channel name. you also see i use turkish bow and i mentioned a broken thumb... i am not naughty i just thought it WAS OBVIOUS!!!!!! anyway no bad feelings from me.
Why should you have bad feelings? You are the one who tried to trick me.... ;)
Also are you the only guy in Greece whose name is Hermes? Are you the only guy who gets problems with his thumb when switching to thumb shooting? I was just cautious...
I thought you just had a sore thumb, didnt know it was broken. Sorry to hear that...
i dint tried to trick you it was obvious.. if you want to know hermes is a pretty rare name in greece. also my old channel was only for archery purpose i decided to have a channel for all my hobbies.
I saw diagrams of this method. I always mistook it as the majra. This is an AWESOME video.
The Turkish people and Koreans share many similarities. Our language derives from the same family, but our bows are similar as well, down to the fact that we both have methods of shooting small arrows. I think only Korean and Turkish archery has small arrow shooting methods.
No. The pupose of using a siper is to use shorter arrows. Shorter arrows means lower mass, lower mass means greater speed, greater speed means greater distances. Sipers most propably were not used for war archery...
it's true that on turkish flight arrow the center of mass is slighty behind the middle of the arrow and is pozitioned always on the maximmum diameter spot ?
it woud be very nice if you can shoot flight arrow at long distance outside somewere in a fild and record that (to show accuracy, and arrow flihgt at long distance)
Thanks for posting. I had never seen a siper before. It looks like bamboo would be the perfect material for making a siper.

@LutefiskSavage We have played around what is called "Navenk" in Memluk scripts. Very similar to solenarion (Thats Byzantine isnt it?).

I see no point in using this overdraw technique with light bows, like the one in this vid. seems to be

We have not yet worked on majra yet, therefore no videos. Sorry!
I also would recommend you to watch the videos of gokmenpasha and abdulkabza. They are the guys in this video.

can you post a video of a majra next time? That would be cool. I always wanted to see it. Wanna know how it's different from the Korean pyunjun

Hi, thanks for the upload!
Where do you get your equipment (the arrows, the siper, and the grip-cloth thing) from?
Thanks!
daryush55 2 years ago
We get the arrows from various places, for example bowsportsdotcom or bauhaus, B&Q etc. The siper is self made. The grip clothing too...
adyona 2 years ago
Hi.
How do you make a siper? I'm interested in getting one for our flight archery competitions later in summer.
Thanks!
daryush55 2 years ago
Well, I personally did not take part in the building process. Besides they require great skill to master. Gökmen just makes it look easy.
Do you shoot with a tumb ring?
Where do you hold those competitions?
adyona 2 years ago
Yeah, I use a thumb ring. We have competitions in the UK, in a field somewhere (it changes yearly).
If it takes lots of skill to master it then I should probably get practicing :) You're right, Gökmen did make it look quite easy!
daryush55 2 years ago
Quick question( from amateur) , but isin't it easier to get longer arrows?
Thanks!

I found this wery fascinating can you make video outside to shoot target (puta) al long distance ?

Unfortunately we do not yet have the facilities to train on such distances. What Murat is talking about is based on "Telhis" by Mustafa Kani.

you are welcome -Iwoud like to see arrow penetration on target at long distance ....all the best in 2009
su27forserbia 3 years ago
correct me but I think the arrow was not overdrawn on siper?
Best regards from Warsaw Archers
dorisijanek 3 years ago
Yes, you are right, he isnt overdrawing. The reason for that is that the arrow is too long (it is not a flight arrow but a target arrow).
