if anyone is looking for sheet music of cannon for the pipes i woul be happy to e-mail it on to you. i have the classical version like the one being played incluing 3 sets of harmonies an also a jig and a hornpipe version. personally when my band play we combine the classical version along with the hornpipe. that always gets a great reaction from whoever is listening.

A Cannon, by definition needs at least two or more voices, as a solo, it's totally flat musically. I hope your wedding gig went well.

@IC2720 that is true - however, the title of the tune is Canon. Perhaps if you sing along you could be the second voice? The Simon Fraser University pipe Band have done it properly - I don't have the technical know how or software to enable multiple tracks, sorry!!

A bit too slow...also when played with the 2nds, 3rds and 4ths it becomes a decent tune - a lone piper (and so slow) it seems to be missing something special.

@agricolae101 Yes, you are right. I intentionally made it slow as I did not want to hit a flat spin when I reached the final part. Obviously sounds MUCH better with harmonies and counter melodies etc. It has shocked me in its popularity, though, Definitely NOT a piping tune, in my opinion, but obviously much sought after for some reason!!

Thanks for the input. It's true that the pipes cannot play in D, well, the GHB can't but other pipes can. I don't know what the fascination is with playing non-bagpipe tunes on the pipes here in North America but it sure is there because this is by FAR my most popular tune. The other obvious shortcoming of the GHB is it's restricted scale of one octave so one is continually transposing and this can sound, frankly, crap! I put it up to see responses and they have been fairly positive-so far....

That is the Scottish Highland Bagpipe. There are many types of "bagpipe" found all over the world. They are very different in size, tone and volume as well as shape. Some, like these, are blown by mouth but others are blown by bellows under the other arm. These bagpipes were made "famous" by the Scottish Regiments in the British Army during colonial times (perhaps infamous) but are now played around the world as a legacy to those who freely gave of their time and talents to teach the instrument
