I remember this cartoon! When I was way younger, 20 years or so ago, Disney would show their old classic cartoons like this always around Valentine's Day...oh memories....
That poor horse just didn't want anyone to come between him and his best friend (in this case, Pecos Bill). I can relate, because my best friend has a very busy job (witch is how we met BTW) and a wife and baby, that's a lot that can come between us but regardless I still love him and wanna be friends.
Sue would be to curvy for today's cartoons but was a common form in the late 40's to mid 60's Curvy full figured actress would come in as reference for the artist. I love this period of disney when its movies was rich in color. Pecos Bill, Cinderella,Peter Pan,Alice in Wonderland,Lady&Tramp were all done in this manner.
@HOGYOLO r u asking what happened to disney??? well since walt disney died everything changed he was great!!! this is the disney i wanna see on tv!!! who is hanna montana come on!
Pecos Bill is edited on the film's US video release (but not the UK release) to remove all scenes of Bill smoking a cigarette. The entire scene with Bill rolling the smoke and lighting it with a lightning bolt was cut and all other shots of the offending cigarette hanging from his lips were digitally removed.
"I'm from Texas and this was my 1st time getting to know about Pecos Bill and Sluefoot Sue! I'm not a cowboy but, I wonder how many real cowboys know about this tale!"
This is a very pesimistic cartoon...really stupid...how can she land to the moon...i don't know you guys...
but in some way it portrays the goals that the author did not reach...a relationship with a beautiful woman...i think tht is the message of this cartoon...
@melesio87 have u not heard of suspension of disbelief? That's the goal of a cartoon, to suspend one's belief and do the impossible. That's the beauty of cartoons--doing things that can't be done in real life, and suspending our beliefs upon it. Apparently, you don't get this.
@pienipaha If this cartoon was a stage on Kingdom Hearts and Widowmaker was the boss of that stage...Oooooooooh the damage I would do that horse, just one moment with a Keyblade, I'll make my own folk song..*Sharpens Axe*
Awww I luv these kind of stories, like when they say "and that's why......." at the end. It makes me think. And that horse gives me one more reason why I don't like horses. LOL :DD
@burtonrules123 that was stora the same thing I thought about Sue's character motal, and Katrina also looked a lot like Cinderella, even the same face like her's.
yeah it's youtube itself. it's actually been like that for quite awhile. guess it's just to much traffic and youtube being cheap not upgrading to handle all the people.
thank you for the information, ziggyfollies. One thing though, what exactly do you mean by cultural joke? I understand what you mean about how they used it alot in the 1940's; they used it in Springtime for Pluto, Mickey's Birthday Party and a few others I can't think of at the moment. About the first question I asked; what I meant was, why are latina dancers always depicted with wiggling hips when the conga music plays? The way Sue's bustle moved at 4: 48 show what I mean
I couldn't agree with you more, I love the 20's-50's era Disney, I can't believe they don't even have a show for the one who started it all, Mickey Mouse, that isn't for preschoolers!
Good question...I hadn't thought about it, but perhaps it's because it is an "idealized" vision of women? Since most animators in classic Disney were men, perhaps they exaggerated the movements unconsciously? I'd be curious to know too.
Too bad they can't have Wally Boag's Pecos Bill as an extra sometime with this movie. I know it's elsewhere, but still it would be nice. Also the gun action reminds me of Panchito Pistoles.
Two questions about 3:43-4:48; 1, why is it that when she's walking her bustle is shifting side to side and 2, when Widowmaker was bouncing her her hips were moving like a samba dancers hips when she dances?
I dunno what the reasoning was on 1, skinnernick, but I think the animators stuck the Conga in there just as a cultural joke. It was so popular in the 1940s that you frequently see it in Warner Bros. cartoons as well.

Speaking of her walk, why is it that most Disney women usually have shifting hips when they walk?
