I've always felt that Sakimoto's songwriting ability is unfairly overlooked, as people tend to remember him for his more brash, militaristic orchestral work. "Holy Spirit" and "Odin Sphere's Theme" show off an enchanting, lyrical side to his style that I'm personally very fond of (and not for the first time, I hear Alan Menken influences poking through, but that can't be a bad thing as far as I'm concerned!).
He ought to have been allowed to write the vocal theme for FFXII in my opinion ...
