Sure it is. Same with the Easter bunny, we spend their whole childhood lying to them about characters that should have nothing to do with their respective holidays, and then turn around and tell them to always tell us the truth. Parents set themselves up for failure.
Just like the kids are saying, "Oh, my parents will find out I'm doing drugs in a few years anyway, why not let them be happy now..." Then they end up dying of an overdose before you even know there's a problem because you taught them its ok to keep their loved ones in the dark. I know when I found out about Santa, I was crushed. All I could think, was "WHY would they do that to me?" Then I started wondering if I was adopted, because they obviously lie about very important things!
No, we are talking about developing an honest relationship with your children. I used drug addiction as an example. Santa Clause is tied to (supposed to be anyway) religion, which is the most important thing in people's lives usually. So if you lie to your children about the most important things, then they will do the same to you.
techincally if you aloow someone to belive something its not lying, i have an honest relationship with my parents, when i was younger i believed in santa, does that make them terrible, lying parents, erm NO!
I didn't say your parents are terrible. Parents don't think about these things when they start telling their kids about Santa. (Which I'm sure your parents did, they didn't just wait til you heard it somewhere else and then "let" you believe it.) My parents aren't terrible at all. But I'm going to tell my kids exactly what Santa is, a fairy tale. And Christmas is a Pagan holiday celebrating the Winter Solstice. Christians stole it, and then stole it from themselves by making up Santa!
Sure am. There's plenty of real things in this world to have fun with without making up lies to tell our children. I hate Disneyworld too, it's manufactured fun. I'd much rather camp out with the kids in natural beauty than wait half a day to ride a coaster for 5 minutes.
And its a real love, not one based on bribery. Your kids love toys, because that's the only form of affection they get from you. Sad. Oh, and if you don't have kids, I don't care. I assumed the same way you did, because I don't actually have kids either!
haha you dont have kids, so what gives you the right to teach other people how to treat their kids. you let them believe in santa claus, the tooth fairy etc to allow them to increase their imagination. without imagination this world would be borrinnggg.
Who said I have authority?? I didn't. I'm stating my opinion, same as you are. Imagination is great. I'm all about creativity. They don't have to imagine much if you tell them a story and tell them its true. They can imagine things on their own, and they'll know how to keep them separate from reality, instead of ending up disappointed.
lol did you end up disappointed when you were a little kid? you imply that lying about santa claus is like lying about something else i.e stealing. its nothing like that. parents lie about imagination to give the children a ground to where they have to behave. what do you think is more effective parenting. if you told a child that if they didn't behave 'santa claus' wouldnt bring them presents as appose to telling them to behave because 'they have to'. ^^
Yes, it was disappointing to learn that the great people who were supposed to exist in the world (Santa, Jesus), did not. It's much more effective parenting to teach children how blessed they are to have a loving family and great food during the holidays than to create whiny brats who won't behave unless they get their promised bribe. That's what creates the welfare adults that give America a bad name.
'loving family' and 'great food' im sorry to say but thats impossible for everyone in the world today. im lucky enough to have a family that has so much love and to be fed great food but others are unable to have this. lol and im also sorry to say i dont know where this arguement is going :p
True. But if you don't have your family around, then you don't have a holiday. I'd rather get a dvd of my family then to have them send me stuff through the mail that I could just buy for myself. It doesn't replace love.
Al and Wilson are my favourite characters. Wilson is always so kind and concerned about Tim's family. I wish that there were more men like him in the world.
@ILoveTeaDogs We have a neighbor that is exactly like Wilson. Our family gets advice from him whenever we have a problem. He and his wife are both retired and care for our kids as if it was their own :)
