Ooooh, I finally got it - i.e. why I like this Sherlock so much. He reminds me of Garfield the Arrogant Cat: he does what he wants, makes everybody do what he wants and behaves as if he is entitled to all those favors and general adoration...
i acually did this to my best mate my phone was in my jeans and i was wearing them and i was writing at the time so i do feel a little bad (nope not really) and my best mate did get my phone out of my pocket i dunno why he did it :P he is a lengend but i dont understand how he puts up with :O
This makes me feel somewhat guilty (not really) for doing this to my best friend. I make him pass me my coffee also, when it's right next to me on the coffee table. I don't know why he complies. Probably because he's amazing.
I challenge anyone to find a better example of laziness.
And I do like how John picks his battles. He doesn't actually refuse to fetch the phone (and cause a petty squabble), but he makes damn sure he does it in a way that's about two degrees removed from actually strangling Sherlock.
What gets to me most is not that Sherlock asks John to get his phone out of the pocket of a jacket he's *actually wearing*, no, what baffles me is that John sees through it right away and STILL DOES IT. What does that tell us, eh? ;)
@jamiependragon I was surprised how quickly John understood his meaning... but then again this is the same guy who asked him to come halfway around the town for his phone.
@imme93 Looking back on it, it's surprising how John immediately went for the right pocket in a jacket that presumably has at least two on each side. Looks like this is something Sherlock is REGULARLY too lazy to do and he's got it down to a routine by now. LOL.
@Lilithly He never had a love affair of any kind with Irene Adler. He was very impressed and intrigued by her because she outwitted him, but he never says that he's in love with her.
@miceruletheworld42 the Holmes/Watson thing really annoys me! I mean, they're just NOT gay, there...dunno kind of having a strange friendship. I mean they handle each other a bit strange, but if you wanna live with Sherlock Holmes I think that's what you're gonna have...
@quotecat7 Hmmm. I kind of agree with you, I DO think there is some evidence to suggest that Holmes and Watson had something more than friendship but I think people take it overboard sometimes. Like I said, people read the books and watch the adaptations and form their own conclusions. It's up to them and it was pretty stupid of me to go off on a rant about Holmes/Adler. I should probably remove that comment.
@miceruletheworld42 no it's alright i suppose we all live in a free country (well at least that's for me) you can have any opinion, but
1. it's probably because I'm I girl but I would just HATE them ending up as a couple
2. I don't think it would be so funny any more if they were together and that would be terrible, right?
3. Sherlock is in a way a very direct person, so if he wanted something of watson he'd either hadn't "turned John down" or he'd said or did something by now, right?
@quotecat7 I think it's because I'm a girl that I would LIKE them ending up as a couple (kidding, kidding! But that is a pretty nice mental image...)
Um, they definitely wouldn't have the "No, I'm not his date!" joke to do anymore if John actually WAS his date.
I don't know, it seems to me that it depends on how the writers would want to do that. Although, Moffat and Gatiss are HUGE fans of the original books so I really don't think there will be any romance in the series at all.
@maryelaineellis everyone thinks that Sherlock is, I don't want to say Naive but I can't think of another word to describe him....but he is very sneaky getting John that close to him. XD
I love how john is actually fine with getting sherlocks phone and then gets a -_- face when he sees that Sherlocks phone is in his jacket, which he is still wearing. Such a great moment.
@Sukiinpink the thing with adler happens in the Sherlock Holmes story scandel in bohemia, there was romantic attatchment between the two of the. does anyone actually read sherlock holmes, i've read them all so i no what im talking about. this version is not different it is just modern and thats all they are still the same characters and their sexuallity prefference wouldn't change
I read the stories too and I can't remember any 'romantic attachement' between Adler and Holmes.
Holmes did ask the King of Bohemia for Adler's photgraph, true. But to me, it always seemed he was only amazed by her wit, and how she outsmarted him. I really don't believe he was in love her. In the books, he seems mostly asexual to me.
@foolofaromantic As for the photo: in 'The Dying Detective' Sherlock Holmes is said to keep pictures of criminals in his room, so it's only natural that he should ask for Adler's photo.
OK, she wasn't exactly a mastermind criminal but she still was, after all, the only woman who outwitted him, and a worthy opponent.
@NahShizzums I read the stories, too, but I don't agree with you.
IMHO there are no basis in SCAN or anywhere in the Canon to believe SH ever felt any 'tender emotion' for IA.
While it's true that 'In his eyes she eclipses and predominates the whole of her sex' JW clarifies 'It was not that he felt any emotion akin to love for Irene Adler'. And I honestly cannot see any rational reason why I shouldn't agree with him... There's grudging respect for the woman who outwitted him, and that's that.
@NahShizzums It's absurd to try to get into the heads of two fictional characters, but the VA had different notions regarding sexuality and same-sex relationships. Exclusive emotional bonds between men were common and probably sometimes included feelings we'd qualify as romantic by today's sensibility.
I don't think romance between BBC SH and JW would be untrue to the original works and to the culture that fostered them: it would just be a legit modern-day interpretation and development.
@NahShizzums Oh, I think I got it. Never said it's official, only that it's possible. And that you can't rule out romantic attachment from a not overtly sexual m-m relationship because it wasn't intrinsically seen as a possible romance-love but only as friend-love by a society that, as far as I know, defined homosexuality only in terms of sexual desire and activity.
Mind you, I'm not saying there's something wrong with your opinion, only that there are more than one possible interpretations.
Um, Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler were never romantically attached in the original story. He respected her because she was the only person whoever outwitted him. The idea of a romantic relationship between the two was only featured in the 2009 film, with Robert Downey Jr.
I've read the books too, I know what I'm talking about.
Well, the way I interpret it is that he greatly admired her intelligence, nothing more. But I suppose some people interpret it in different ways. You can believe your theory, I'll believe mine.
@Mousegirl1122 Actually, in 'A Scandal in Bohemia' it says 'It was not that he felt any emotion akin to love for Irene Adler. All emotions, and that one particularly, were abhorrent to his cold, precise, but admirably balanced mind.' It was just that she was the only woman he felt any kind of regard to.
@Mousegirl1122 very much doubt that,he didn't show any romantic interest in her,he was only impressed by her intelligence. What would you do if you found something interesting.Just because you would think "hey she's good" it would automatically make you fall for her?C'mon,Sherlock is sociopath, there is no way in hell he would have feelings for her.The only person he really likes is Watson,he showed it more than once.
@Emeralsha the thing with adler was a trick but he did fall for her and she for him, if you watch the movie staring Robert Downey jr. it explains a lot about their intrest between each other and that there really is a connection John and Sherlock are great friends and they bring out the best in each other but there is nothing more than that
Seriously, why does everyone assume that Watson and Holmes are gay, Watson has a Wife, and Holmes has a thing with Adler. I don't understand why people think they are gay?
@NahShizzums Sherlock's thing with Adler only exists in the 2009 movie. In the original books, she was only in one of the stories - and even then, there was no romantic attraction. Yes, Watson has a wife in various other incarnations, but I think it's safe to say that this particular version is rather different from all the rest.
@NahShizzums Because it's fun. Because they'd be an adorable couple---at least before Sherlock drove John completely insane. Because Sherlock is too fine to be consigned to asexuality into the 21st century, and John is fine too.
@NahShizzums don't know if anyone has said this already, but the thing with adler isn't really a romantic interest. Its more of a respect type thing. She tricked him, and he was impressed by her wit, giving her the title of "the woman". :)
Once his test experiment worked, Holmes now gets mysterious phone calls and text messages several times a week, always when his hands are full, of course. "Watson, make yourself useful and answer that, would you?" Eventually the phone gradually moves into less and less subtle places seemingly on its own accord... Holmes in his absentmindedness always loses track of where he places it. You know how it is, focusing on the case and all that... "You just missed it, Watson, a bit lower."
Any reason to get John to touch him!

Holmes in his absentmindedness always loses track of where he places it. You know how it is, focusing on the case and all that... "You just missed it, Watson, a bit lower."
