Every time I hear this it bring a melancholy tear to my eye. I remember hearing it when I was a little boy in the early '70s at a relative's house, then never heard it again til my dad found it on a cassette tape somewhere. Apparently Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians performed this on a television Christmas Special (at least Ive heard that from a couple of relatives who were old enough to remember it) I'd dearly love to find a recording of it, on vinyl vhs cd any format it would be a treasure!
If I remember correctly Mr. Green Jeans (Hugh Brannum) from "Captain Kangaroo" played bass for Fred Waring and His Pennsylvanians. At some point at least.
I have that song from the LP and it was the original Decca version, the Capitol version was far superior than the original with a spoken intro saying "To all our children, Christmas means Santa Claus". CBS-FM played the Capitol version of "The Night Before Christmas" during Christmas time, not the Decca one. "Falcons66" did a terrible rendition by Harry Simeone Chorale from the Kapp LP "Little Drummer Boy". Harry's version was not the best.
Anyone know if I can get this on a CD or something? It's one of my FAVORITE Christmas records when I was a kid.

@StuPadazzo You are correct. I know this from my mother who, before my father came on the scene, dated the Dancing Bear for awhile.

The original 1942 Decca 78rpm recordings (2 sides) are sacred to me and have always been preferred to later recreations by Waring.
