I live in Waltham, work in Southie, and go to school in Cambridge. I've also lived in Framingham, Newton, Back Bay, Allston, Brighton, and Arlington . . . people talk like illiterates all over the place out here (easy, it was a joke, I love Bostonians)
Bostonians are the most arrogant mother #uckers than anwhere in America !! I'll never do business ever again in Massachusetts !! Go #uck youself Mass. bastards !
i use every one of them one liners, from dawn till dusk every day,and proud of it.irregardless who likes it.priest nor pope will shut my blo hole.i love to swear.its me, always did, always will.fuck politically correctness.from southie. we are the balls hee yah.no place like home.another word we use. toodles
@vladimirhorowitz Actually there from Cambridge, which is next to Boston. and here, thats a big difference. It's also where Harvard and MIT are, which most people also think is Boston.....it's not.
@snatale1 Yeah I know where Cambridge is, man. The accent of someone from Southie might be somewhat more pronounced than someone from Cambridge but it's the same accent. Saying Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have fake Boston accents is ludicrous. People in Fitchburg have the same accent as someone that grew up in Charlestown or Beacon Hill even.
@ktortolini Yeah I know it fades as you go further west. I've met people born and raised in Fitchburg that have accents the same as native Bostonians, but you're right...in general it's not as strong. But give me a break. This guy was saying that since Matt Damon is from CAMBRIDGE, he is faking the accent. Outrageous. He's definitely lost it since he's been in Hollywood but I'd venture to say that was mostly on purpose.
@snatale1 That's absurd. You obviously don't know Boston very well. Cambridge is to Boston what Queens, the Bronx, etc. are to NY. What do you think, if someone steps two feet out of the Boston line, they have a "fake" accent?
As someone else here accurately pointed out, the accent is more a Massachusetts thing than a Boston thing.
@KPJ113 Really, Lived in Boston my whole life buddy. Seems that YOU know nothing. Only the IMMEDIATE Boston area has the "Boston Accent". Cambridge is not The City of Boston, It's the City of Cambridge. Which is VERY different. Bronx and Queens ARE STILL NYC! Most of the state just talks "Normal" The South Coast sounds like a Mix of RI/NY. Far Western MA sounds like NY. You've obviously never set foot in MA! Nobody that ever has would make that comment.
@snatale1 Wrong again, Skippy. I've lived in the Kenmore/Fenway area my entire life.
You don't get out much, huh? I live in Boston, work in Andover. Even the people in Andover have the accent. I've worked in Waltham, too. Same deal - tons of Boston accents. There goes your argument.
Christ, half the state has the accent. To say that only those from Boston proper have the accent is, well...just plain ignorant.
@KPJ113 WOW! Fenway area....nothing but college transplants. Good place to use for Comparison. BTW: Boston Proper = DOWNTOWN neighborhoods. Your just like the people from the south who can't tell the difference between NY,NJ or MA or NH. it's all a blur to them we all sound the same. You must have the same affliction.
@snatale1 Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, Watertown, & a dozen more cities bordering Boston would fit snuggly into one or two NYC Burroughs. So the accent goes a bit farther than you think but I do agree with your premise that the thick Boston accent doesn't travel as far as some people believe. I contend that it is pervasive in 2.5 million people in the Greater Boston area, not just the 600,000 of Boston Proper as you stated.
:( The accents aren't that great. I've been to Boston, very rarely someone speaks like this. And I'm from Los Angeles. But... yeah One thin Los ANgeles and Boston have in common is the need to say Fuck (or Fucking) Yeah... always and forever <3
His accent is a little exaggerated... but if you go down Ipswich-Rowley North West up Rt.133/97 into Georgetown/Groveland/Haverhill area its not that far off. Only word he is pushin is Facken...the accent is quite that hard for the use of the word fuck. Would sound more like Fakin than Facken.
@RadicalCoolDude Californians speak too slow. Not to mention how weird they are walking around with umbrellas when it's drizzling! Haha I can only imagine Californians driving in a Nor Easter, seeing how no one in California knows how to fuckin drive in the first place!
@Dagon2461 Is true no one knows how to fucking drive here. Except for my dad. He's almost blind but fucking drives better than most everyone. I speak pretty fast for someone from Los Angeles. But yeah we speak slow, because we are too busy thinking about how fucking crowded the freeway will be by the time we get there.
@jesuslove110 Fucking christ kid.. BOSTON WAS built by fucking Irelands Irish... listen close to our accent. its after irelands own. just rightly watered down.
@darth609609 Boston was built by after the Brits colonized; had nothin to do with the Irish. My home city was founded in the early 1600's which was centuries before the Irish showed up. The Irish built the railroads. Our accent derives from both Britspeak and Irish brogue, which is why we say "bathroom" like British people. Before you go ahead and call me an Anglophile, three of my grandfolks hail from Ireland.
The best thing about living in Mass. Is that we have a sense of humor different than any other states. Another good thing is that we don't take any crap from anybody and the accent just makes us sound like we are mad all of the time. I live an hour from Boston and I have a very strong accent. And that guy who says they only talk like this in movies has obviously never been to Boston or any parts of Massachusetts. Masshole for life!
Mark Wahlberg was not that great in this movie! I didnt feel his character! Affleck and Renner did a better job in the Town then Wahlberg did in the Departed!
You only hear people talk like this in these stupid movies. They all seem to think they need to project the Kennedys with every word. Pretty sad.......
Yeah I am from massachusetts (Belmont) and we moved to maryland like 8 years ago and my family still have a really strong accent it's funny cuase some people just don't understand us
