@hokeez87 no here's the difference between UVA and VT: UVA has a long outstanding history of basketball and until recently VT basketball was a joke. Last time I checked UVA swept VT last year and tech hasn't made it past the second round of the NCAA tournament since 1967 (the only time they ever got that far)

Dudes, like it or not we can't really expect to impress fans with national championships in everything that that doesn't make money.

I'm a Virginian who is proud of our flagship school but if we keep up the "we loose but at least we are smart" argument then we gotta stop teasing and torturing recruits and drop to the CAA. We would kill there.

Mike London and Tony Bennett seem cool but if the admin and fanbase doesn't empower them to greatness you'll loose one more fan.

The only thing UVA has done in the last 20 years was tie for first in the ACC with UNC a year ago. They've pulled some upsets here and there but they are not a power house by any stretch of the imagination.

Uh, no. UVA won the ACC in 1995 and went to the Elite Eight that year. They've won the ACC 6 times in their history, which is comparable or better than all the teams not named UNC or Duke.

I wouldn't expect a State fan or grad to know anything about academics, but the town didn't locate itself near TJ's home. He actually founded The University there himself and the town grew around it. UVA has been ranked the #1 public university on the east coast for the entire time that US News rankings have existed (1983 to present). UNC is always looking up to us, their big brother... and let's face it. NC State is no UNC.

So yeah, we have a lot to be proud of... that transcends sport.

PS - All of NC State's championships were in the 1950s and 1960s and 1970s. All of UVAs have been in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. In the last 30 years, UVA > NCS in basketball and it's not even close.

well, here are the facts...everyone knew nc state was supposed to have their worst year in a longgg time...picked to finish dead last, and that was even before andrew brackman left. things look pretty promising for the pack, since in what was supposed to be their worst of seasons, they had 4 top 25 wins including duke and unc, made a run all the way to the acc championship game including an unstoppable comeback against your cavs, and made a nice run in the NIT.

I filmed the thing. It was at the ACC tournament in Tampa. They section off the arena by school. I was in the FSU section and was watching the UVA vs. NC State game.

Directly to our right was the UVA section. Take my word for it, the homer in the tie was a UVA fan along with his buddy that was jumping around and running into and out of the concourse.

We did blow that game, but the refs screwed us over in both halves, especially at the start of the second. I was one of those people going crazy, but not that crazy. Believe me, I can understand that kind of reaction though, it was that bad.

UVa fans had A LOT to be pissed off about in that game. Those refs were absolutely horrible, and it was basically only one guy, KARL HESS. He is the worst referee in the ACC, and makes a bunch of calls just to get face time on ESPN and so he can be the center of attention. And it was a slap in the face in the last 1 minute of the game, when they gave us about 5 "make-up" calls to even up the foul totals after NC State had already wrapped up the game.
