MollyMate1 do you realise that the bearskin caps that the Brigade of Guards use are from Canadian black bears which are culled to control their population? They would be killed anyway - they are spare bears. Properly looked after these splendid pieces of headgear can last for many decades - almost a century sometimes. I hope that they go on wearing them for a long time to come.
Also why do the animals rights crowd pick on the British army. Units in the Dutch, Swedish, Danish and Italian armies also have bearskins as part of their ceremonial uniforms.
When you think about it real bearskins are actually much "greener" than artificial fur - which are probably made from acrylic fibres derived from petroleum. A natural product with a fairly small carbon footprint :-)

Great Afghan? Isn't that the place where the mujahadeen use parts of a goat's body to kick around as a football? The sooner that "great" place is brought into the 21st century, the better. Ive done No.6 and No.2 guards and 3 Troops with the Pipe Band but the best was the Queen mothers funeral. A hundred Pipers I will probably never do that again. Unless I re-enlist and do Queen Elizabeths funeral. God save the Queen. P.S its not a secret just keep time and it sorts itself out as long as you do your bit...Teamwork thats why were the best!
